christopher small
Is it possible to fit an electric pusher prop on my 6foot Simpleton glider on a pylon mount?many years ago I fitted an Enya 049 up near the nose which worked really well. Now I want to try FPV I need a rear pusher prop on the trailing edge of the wing so I can have the Go Pro with FPV on the nose with a clear view, first attempt is not very good, needs a lot of up thrust. J D 8
Pylon mounts do tend to need upthrust to work right.Look how much on an Easystar.
Simon Chaddock
Christopher You really only have two options. Either a highly angled thrust line - look at a Bixler Or a modest level of thrust to keep the power on nose down trim to manageable proportions. The full size fold a way pylon gliders manage. There is of course another option. Use a glider specifically designed for pusher power!
Chuck Plains
Yes, ideally the motor shaft angle will point at the CG for neutral thrust. If it points ahead the nose will pitch down on power up and conversely, obviously, if it points behind the CG the nose will pitch up. I'm guessing that as this is a pure glider, the wing incidence will be set to give more lift as speed increases, so a little down thrust should be fine. There will also be some issues with the prop wash hitting the tail etc. Perhaps someone better qualified than myself will be able to give you an idea of what to do about that. christopher small
Thank you all for your replies,it would be nice to get it flying,I don`t want to give up, Simon I have looked at the Bixler for the thrust line, looks ideal for my FPV plenty of room in there, much better than messing with my glider, and I think its almost ready to fly. KiwiKid
Another FPV option could be the Ogar: **LINK** From: **LINK** and other outlets. T-tail gliders can get away with zero thrust lines as the horizontal stab is in the direct line of the prop wash and you can add up elevator (either manually or by way of a mix) when the throttle is activated.
