Steve Houghton
As a Micron PL-7D home-built r/c user, I am considering entering the 21st century by purchasing a computer radio, possibly on 2.4GHz. I'm particularly interested in the Spektrum. However, due to a stange geographical quirk I learnt to fly at a club (in the mid-70's) with a large proportion of non-standard TX modes. I think I use mode 4 (Throttle/Aileron left, and rudder/elevator right).Does anyone know if any of the current 2.4GHz sets support this TX mode? I realise that I can plug any servo into any channel, but I presume that if I want to use any of the computer features the TX will need to know which stick controls which function. For example, I would need the Alieron dual rate switch to operate on the correct aileron channel for me.The review of the Futaba FF10 in the Spetember 2008 RCM&E says that it supports modes 1, 2, 3, & 4, but this is the only time I've ever seen a reference to this feature.Any help or advice would be greatfully received (apart from re-learning with mode 1 or 2!)Many thanks. Tim Mackey
The basic DX6 DX6i and DX7 models will not support this mode - and they are NOT user changeable even between mode 1 and 2.The 2.4G top end 9 channel versions from JR ( which were really behind the DX7 anyway ) will have all the modes you can shake a stick at.... as it is pretty much based on the excellent PCM9X11 which I used to own, and I know that had 4 x modes available....all user changeable. Steve Houghton
Thanks Timbo,Do I presume correctly that your reference to "DX6 and models" also means that the DX7 cannot be changed? The JR DSX9 is somewhat beyond my pocket. If I can't find a mid-price 2.4Ghz set I may have to revert to my plan B of getting a Multiplex Cockpit SX 35MHz, which I believe does support my mode.Steve
Tim Mackey
oops..yes indeed i did mean that Steve - typo - missed out the DX7 - now corrected
Ultymate
Steve as you stated in your first post on this thread the Futaba 10 C does support all 4 modes and is also easy to change the stick/ratchet arrangement oneself, is this set above your budget? Steve Houghton
Ultymate: The FF10 is also stretching the budget (I'm aiming for sub-£300), although less than the JR DSX9. I would have to plead a believable 'business case' with my fine lady to justify the outlay. Price/performance-wise the Spektrum would have been my ideal, had it supported my mode. Eric: The 6EX is nearer to the price mark. However, if it supports only modes 1 and 2 I would have problems with simple thing like rate switches, even before considering how to program mixers etc..Thanks for both of your replies. It's a shame Multiplex haven't mounted the 2.4 bandwaggon yet, as I understand their TXs are usually extremely flexible for stick modes and switch assignments. Steve Houghton
Further to my earlier pleadings of poverty, some generous family members acknowledged my recent 'significant number' birthday with helpful gifts. I then smashed my piggy bank, collected all the moths, and trotted off to Woodvale where I bagged a 'show special' deal on a JR DSX-9 (although moths are apparently no longer accepted as valid currency!).Mode 4 is now successfully programmed onto my tranny and I'm wading through the manual to experience all the 21st century goodies (my trusty PL-7D only had servo reversing!).Thanks to all my advisors.Steve

Steve Houghton
Let's just say that I was expecting half a telegram from the Queen!, and that I was a child of the sixties. I'm sorry, David, but I suspect you've got at least another 25 years to wait .Incidentally, when I bought the DSX-9 I was puzzled by the 'SW error' message that appeared when I turned on the TX. I can't find any mention of it in the manual. As a software Engineer my first thought was a 'software' error, and I had visions of sending it back for a replacement. I now find it's just a change in switch settings while the TX is turned off. This may be old hat to computer TX users, but puzzling to newcomers. David Ashby - Moderator
LOL It'll certainly take some getting used to after the last TX Steve.
Tim Mackey
It is there to warn you that maybe your flight mode switch or similar are not in the "normal" position upon switch on.
Kelly
Why not get a flight sim and learn to fly in mode 2 .All the best flyers on this forum fly mode

Tony Heaton
The warning tells you that the Flight Mode switch or Throttle Hold is in a "dangerous" position. No data is sent to the receiver whilst that warning is displayed/sounding.It prevents you starting (or trying to start) a Heli in Glight Mode 1 or 2 (aka Idle Up 1/2) as this MAY have been set with a high throttle setting etc etc.

Steve Houghton
Kelvin, I suspect Paul McCartney made a reasonable living out of playing his Guitar the wrong way round - was that mode 1?I like to conform to non-conformity: Mode 4 rules! (now that I have a tranny that'll do it).Eric, I agree about the need to identify which switch is wrong - it took me ages and significant gnashing of teeth to get past the error message and get the servos twitching.Tony, thanks for your feedback.
