Phil Winks
Lovely result lads good work by all just loved that approch shot across the sunsett. seems she flies well and also looks like a case for flaps or flaperons to slow her down a touch for landing eh think this is one to go on the must do list lads
Stephen Jones
hi , just to let you know i have had a think about re making a larger fantrainer to include air brakes as featured on the full sized , or maybe find away to reverse the thrust to work as a air brake . I think 50in wing span is a more acceptable size .
Phil Winks
Hmmm reverse thrust are you getting into the world of 4d aerobatics here perhaps? mind you a variable pitch prop would achieve that I reckon as for a 50" version Nice idea
Stephen Jones
Yes I think reverse thrust would be a good idea . Imagine flying in low then at the right spot reverseing the thrust for a spot landing . Electric motors can run in both directions all we have to do is swap two wires over which could be done by a servo or relay, my esc already has a brake function . so all that is needed is for us to stop the motor hit reverse ,applie some power then hay presto . I'll have to do some tests first of corse.
Phil Winks
Still think the variable prop idea would work best already a proven technology just need to get a manufacturer to adapt it for a DF unit or just like many real jets (the 737 jumps to mind) a device to fold the rear of the output nacelle back to form a scoop to divert the thrust forward
Stephen Jones
Hi Just found the plan is now on the net And the canopy is still available too from My Hobby Store . N Joy

Stephen Jones
Hi , As i still get asked about this model, i have decided that it would be a good idea update this build log with some additional information . So that those that are interested in building this one will be able to follow on from where i left it . I still have the model and still fly it on occasions it still flies great and i hand launch it by my self.
Stephen Jones
Ok , So here goes i get asked about the motor i use along with the Propeller . Well the motor i use is a high 2200Kv 250 watt motor. and the Prop is a cut down ic Kavan 8x4 nylon . Similar to this one Motor and the prop
Stephen Jones
So here are some pictures , So here you can see the outrunner motor is bolted onto the fire wall as a pusher. Only just viewable from the side. The Nylon prop was cut down to suit and then balanced using a prop balancer. Here you can see the prop is fitted in reverse. as the motor shaft is too small the prop simply fits over the motor boss that has the Allan screws to hold the motor shaft in place .And then i fitted a prop adapter to the end without the large screws that would of held the O ring and used grub screws instead then thin Cyno used to secure the prop in position.. Stephen Jones
Make sure the prop is positioned about 1/3 in from the Duct leading edge. And the inside of the duct is shaped with a airfoil the outside of the duct is flatt as you can see.
Stephen Jones
The inside of the model is hollowed out to allow Air to flow over the ESC which is a 40 Amp version . Also make sure that the escaping air can flow out around the motor .
Stephen Jones
Air is allowed in through two small inlets at the front. And the radio gear . At present the receiver is in another model but you can see it fits the the side wall where the Velcro is . I used two 9 gram servos for the ailerons and the snake runs through the wing . Yes it is not as pretty now as it was when i first built it , just shows how well used it is .
