Robert Welford
I'm just finishing a Tomboy powered by an Irvine Mills 0.75. I've covered it in Polyspan, doped it with HMG nitrate dope. My question is: Do I need to fuel proof it, or is nitrate dope fuel resistant to diesel fuel? Alan Gorham_
Robert, I remember the old advice from Eric Coates in Aeromodeller was that if you mixed your own fuel with mineral oil then dope needed no extra fuelproofer. I think with a castor based fuel I prefer a couple of sprayed coats of Aerokote proofer to make the model easier to wipe down. It stops the finish from getting sticky over time. Peter Miller
Polyurethane varnish will also be an adequate fuel proofer, especially for diesels
Alan Gorham_
Doesn't polyurethane yellow over time though? And if Robert has left the Polyspan natural ie white then that looks a bit grim.
