Fred Keegan
Just have to have something to do, I build for a friend as well. when you are retired you have a lot of spare time, you can go to the pub or sleep on and off all day, or in my case go up in the workshop. The Sunderland has lots of work in it I am hoping to fit lights, I have a 86inch electric EXTRA ARF to do next when my friend Steve gets the motor, so i will put the Sunderland on the shelf for a while. Alan Gorham_
Hello FredJust to give you some background on the cable length issue, have a read here:http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=903326and follow some of the links, especially those from ESC manufacturers. It's not a clear cut science this cable length malarkey, but hopefully this will explain the issues so you can make an informed decision.Note that just because one particular installation has "got away" with long cables twixt battery and ESC, this wont always be the case. It a classic "Your Mileage May Vary" situation and the only reason I mentioned it to you in the first place is that I would hate to see all of your hard work with the model go to waste due to an ESC failure..... Kind regards Alan
Fred Keegan
Cheers Alan, lots of info to digest But as you say it woul be a sin not to get the esc set up correct after all the work that's going into the Sunderland. Fred
Fred Keegan
Contacted Tony Nijhuis by email asking what his method was on his prototype.I put the controllers in the nacelles and extended the power wiring as I have always done….not had a problem with this before and most new type controllers are tolerant to this. Just keep leads as short as possible. Regards Tony

This is a first for me so will have to see how it works out. I have set up the 4 motor mounts, port 0 dg side thrust, starboard 1dg right thrust asper drawing. Fred Keegan
Lots and lots of wireshope they all work Fred
Fred Keegan
Tested out the motors and lights, everything working ok and in the correct direction. I can now sheet the rest of the wing and fit the blocks for the tips. I may cover the ESC to Battery wires in foil by the way the motor wires fit inside I just had them out for ease of changing wires.

Jeff Glasser
Hi Fred,I'm new to this site, still finding my way around, not too good with the p.c. either!I bought the Nijhuis B.17 (72") plans and kit last year, but hav'nt started it until now. Seeing your build of the Sunderland now makes me want to build that as well. I've had a lot of feed back from the chaps on here re the B.17, most helpful to someone like me who's not too bright in the electrickery stuff, your photos' and text will be a great help, as are the comments and hints from other modellers, even though they relate to a different aircraft, the set up I imagine will be the same. Keep the pics' coming, they are a real help, though I'm still having trouble grasping the black art of motors, esc's etc. Jeff

Fred Keegan
That's how I work, I try to start the day with a clean bench if I can, but after an hour or two it's just as bad. I have the Sunderland on the spare bed setting in the wing bolts so i will be able to clean up a bit before I take it back in Fred
