nigel newby
Is it possible to set up Phoenix, so that the plane does things like tip stals dutch rolls etc. It would be nice to practice recoverys. Nigel
Martin Harris - Moderator
If Phoenix allows you to configure models and has accurate aerodynamics, then try modifying a model with less desirable characteristics - narrow wing tips, wash in, high wing loading, incorrect C of G, small fin area, different thrust lines etc. Not only should you have more challenging models but you may learn to recognise and correct problems in the real world! Don Fry
Nigel, on a more practical note, try starting a timer. When it goes buzz, shut the throttle, and do a recovery to the landing area. Set a wind direction on the sim. Do it lots of times. Dutch roll is an oddity in models. It's not normally dangerous. Can be catastrophic in full size because it pulls the tail off, but our tails are better glued on.
Denis Watkins
Good advice from Don, Nigel If you want a tip stall, then just fly the Spitfire too slowly, and there is virtually no recovery possible The throlle shut, at different parts of the flight is invaluable, especially just after lift off Practice, as Don suggests, closing the throttle at different parts of the flight. Dave Hess
Every plane in Phoenix flies differently, then you can edit each plane to fly differently. you can move the C of G back, which has some interesting effects, so try all these things if you want to test your flying ability. Dave Hess
I forgot to mention that under the "model tab" is "setup failures", which allows you to bring in random failures for you to try and recover from.
nigel newby
Thanks for the info chaps, will have some fun sometime soon. Had set up for failures , but it just went into a spin and that was that. Or on a low turn engine failure and it was ib=n. Still at least it self repairs in 3 seconds
