Russ P
I'm building a Gloster Gladiator and thought I would build the wheels. Any advice or link to a thread giving me some pointers. Also where can I get the rubber for the tyres. Thanks
Denis Watkins
The build process of wheels means that Size Matters What size wheels Russ ?
Russ P
I haven't got the plan with me at the moment. I think it says use William brothers 41/2 in or it could be 4 3/4.

Russ P
I think I've read somewhere you can use neoprene, not sure that's right though.
Plummet
I made some wheels for a smallish model by sandwiching some thin fibreglass between balsa sheet . I drilled out the centre and inserted a bit of brass tube. I mounted it on some threaded rod and spun it in a drill while sanding it to shape. I made a groove around the rim to take the tyre. I got a length of circular section neoprene sealing strip, cut a suitable length of it, and butt glued it with cyno to make a circular tyre. Russ P
That sounds like just the thing I wanted. Didn't think of the fibreglass idea, sounds good.
Tony Bennett
I designed some for my 3d printer and used thread for the spokes. I also printed some for my Hawker Fury project, i used neoprene for the tyres. YnoT
McG 6969
Hi Russ, If it can be of any help, I made some wheels for my Vicomte 1916 WW1 type monoplane. Here are some pics > I used a 6mm balsa core, some ply for the rims, some small ply roundels to give it some thickness, bits of ABS tubing for the bearings and a neoprene 12mm chord for the tires... Probably your Gladiator wouldn't need the 'spokes', but the basic idea might be the same. If you want some construction details & materials, please visit my Vicomte build blog starting page 14 & following. Cheers Chris
