Lipo receiver flight time.

Recommended Posts

Just looking for a rough idea on flight times.Im running a Spektrum Powersafe receiver with two 2200 2s lipos. The ignition is on a separate battery.

I'm only flying around fairly gently,no real Aerobatics, just circuits with the odd stall turn etc.The plane is a Wot4 Xtreme.

Can anybody give me there thoughts?

Unlike Martin I do use lipos as separate RX batteries. I am using 3.6A 2S Turnigy lipos which may sound like overkill, but they are powering 5 HV digital servos in a 60 cc equivalent electric aerobat (opto ESC). I can report that after 30 minutes of hard flying the voltage still only registers 8.1v after 4 flights on these 2S batteries. So I can't see what's not to like. Do tell. The slight extra weight penalty doesn't have any effect on performance on planes of this size and I know I am not going to run out of RX juice in any one session.

I have no problem with their performance but I store most of my models indoors and don't fancy removing batteries after every session for safety and before recharging - increasing fault potential from frequent connector cycling. I also dislike regulators and the majority of my models don't have HV servos - LiFe batteries with silicon diodes to drop the effective voltage to @6V during most of their discharge curve suit most of my servos.

I'm quite aware that others don't share these concerns and would be able to make a case in support of them - which is why I simply stated that I won't use them in case the OP was confused by my reference to LiFe instead of a direct response to his question about LiPos.
