North American F-86A Sabre 48-178 returned to the USA from being in England for the last 22+ years.

It was disassembled by Aircraft Restoration Company in Duxford England and shipped to Heritage Aero in Rockford, IL where it was reassembled and received FAA certification. Portions of the first flights in the vicinity of Rockford, IL on October 7, 2015 are shown here.

Question:
I ask does anyone know if she is still in Rockford?

Filmed September 2015

This Temora-based jet is one of the fighters that the Royal Australian Air Force used during the 1950s.

The CAC Sabre, sometimes known as the Avon Sabre or CA-27, is an Australian variant of the North American Aviation F-86F Sabre fighter aircraft.

The F-86F was redesigned and built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). Equipping five RAAF squadrons, the type saw action in the Malayan Emergency in the late 1950s, and was employed for air defence in Malaysia and Thailand in the 1960s.

Ex-RAAF models also saw service with the Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Indonesian Air Force.

Bob Hoover is the best! An absolute LEGEND!

Bob Hoover was a WWII fighter pilot who escaped from the Germans by stealing a Messerschmidt, which he had never flown and with the placards in German.

He was part of the X1 program when Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. He was then a Saber Jet test pilot, a radical new jet created for the Korean War to exceed the MIG 15 in speed and manoeuvrability.

Like a Sabre....

North American FJ-2 Fury Fighter - 1953 United States Training Film

The North American FJ-2 Fury manufactured by North American Aviation is an American swept-wing carrier capable jet fighter developed from the F-86 Sabre to serve the U.S Navy and U.S Marine Corps.

The FJ-2 was used to evaluate the first steam catapult installed on a U.S. Navy carrier, featuring an all-moving "flying tail" without dihedral.

Unfortunately the FJ-2 Fury was plagued with problems when operating aboard ship, prompting the U.S Navy to assign them exclusively to U.S Marine Corps squadrons in 1954. As more advanced FJ-3/4 versions of the swept-wing Fury came into service the FJ-2 Fury was slowly phased out of active service.

The maiden flight of the FJ-2 Fury took place on the 27th of December 1951 and it went into service in 1954. Primary users were the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. There were approx. 741 FJ-2 Fury produced. The FJ-2 Fury retired from active service on September 1962.

Canadair F-86 = Sabre 6

Canadair Sabre 6. A Canadian license-built version of the North American F86 Sabre. Filmed from the wing tip of this fighter jet while Randy started and ran the engine. Lots a panels open etc.

Recommendation:
Listened through serious headphones or an audio system with subwoofer: WOW!  .....not to loud though.

Australian Avon powered Sabre

In 1951, CAC obtained a licence agreement to build the F-86F Sabre. In a major departure from the North American blueprint, it was decided that the CA-27 would be powered by a licence-built version of the Rolls-Royce Avon R.A.7, rather than the General Electric J47.

In theory, the Avon was capable of more than double the maximum thrust and double the thrust-to-weight ratio of the US engine. This necessitated a re-design of the fuselage, as the Avon was shorter, wider and lighter than the J47.

Because of the engine change the type is sometimes referred to as the Avon Sabre. To accommodate the Avon, over 60 percent of the fuselage was altered and there was a 25 percent increase in the size of the air intake.

Two bad movie trailers coming up.

A follow on from Martin Gay's thread where Alan Gorham found this 'sombre' scheme.

EX-Luffwaffe Sabre 6 - N1039C (s/n 1600 )

Briefly wore this 'sombre' colour scheme in November 1979 for its role in a motion picture 'The Last Chase'

Starred Lee Majors and Burgess Meredith.

The Last chase trailer from the original vhs or betamax !!!

The writer of the original script was his first ever movie script that he wrote at age 22 which was in 1970 and he now absolutely hates how bad the movie came out!

Penguin Vs The Six Mllion Dollar Man
Of course it's the 'Penguin' played by Burgess Meredith -Vs - ' The Six Mllion Dollar Man' played by Lee Majors.
