My question is, since the 'go live' of the CAA drone regs, has any club had a visit from the Local Constabulary to check compliance? Don Fry Posted January 21, 2020 Share Posted January 21, 2020 I am not being sarcastic, or even cynical, but am ex plod. Minor law updates like this, apart from specialist units, gets done by distant learning packages, which nowadays will be, when you have a spare hour, look at this on the computer. Now, average plod, thinks, never had a problem, call about a drone in my time. Do I try to shift some of this paperwork, which should have been shifted last week, or look at the flying stuff. Supervisors are a bit better informed. They will know enough to know where to look, if necessary. But, when you have not got enough blokes to get the job done, you ain't shouting at them to find a new job to do. Got a minute spare, shall I scrounge a cup of tea, or go up some bumpy track to stir up some old farts who haven't bothered me. My thinking is unless somebody does something remarkably stupid in the vacinity of an airport then as things stand despite all the threads on here, in general we should pretty much be left alone. In the grand scheme of things I think we'll be no more than a very tiny blip on the radar I was just curious as to see if any checks had been actually been carried out. Said learning packages will have been read, at least to shift supervisor level. After all, they will still remember what did, or did not happen, at Gatwick. So, unless you fly your plane/drone down the high street of the local small town and through the butchers window I think it unlikely you'll get asked for any paperwork. Don Fry Posted January 21, 2020 Share Posted January 21, 2020 I was actually "checked" last year. 2 Gendarmorie dog handlers came up. They were aware I needed paperwork. Could I explain what it was. I demonstrated the paperwork they can expect. And we parted, Bon Vol, ( good flight). Mind, French plod are far more numerous than British plod. One of the dogs looked right handy. Bruce Collinson Posted January 21, 2020 Share Posted January 21, 2020 Round us they’re flat out chasing quads of the 4 wheeled variety, handy for any farm with stock but, as a shooting pal in S Yorkshire told me, wouldn’t have one on his farm because the local scrotes would keep trying until they stole it. Last Sunday, returning from the strip, I passed half of N Yorks Sunday shift and a farmer retrieving a quad (bike) from the neighbouring village. 2 marked vans, couldn’t count the plods. We get a text about once a week reporting another quad bike stolen, plus there was a milk tanker not long ago. Don’t even mention Defenders! David Hall 9 Posted January 21, 2020 Share Posted January 21, 2020 Being just a little cynical, it's easy for me to imagine that the local police force might be called upon to demonstrate that they have been out policing this law. Chasing 14 year olds around could be a thankless task, so why not fill two months quota of the number of checks by visiting the local model flying club now and then... Good idea, but not going to work. Ever thought of standing for an elected commisioners job? Original thinkers might be welcome. I agree, 14 year old became difficult when you were not permitted to run then off the road with a judicial vehicle strike, parents, of our generation, objected. Never understood why.
