Martin McIntosh Posted April 14, 2021 Author Share Posted April 14, 2021 No, Firepower were not around then, and no, they were not old style crossflow engines, highly tuned OPS Ursus 60 Rizonansas amongst others with the pipes `hard` tuned for max revs in the air. When we looked at everyone else's element they were all platinum alloys - iirc none of them were plated on a steel( or otherwise ) core. We were very fortunate to have access to a scanning electron microscope at the time which could somehow give us which metals were used in the alloys, all of which were various precious metals apart from one which used a small amount of tungsten.
