Andy J
Has anybody purchased a H-King Tiger Moth (Cambridge Flying Groups de Havilland DH82a) ARF 1400mm? Interested to know their opinion of the model and its quality as it seems very cheap.
EarlyBird
I have had one for a couple of years now and flown it a few times. I bought it as a reward for passing my "A". Mine is electric and needed 12 oz of lead in the nose, for the recommended CoG it would have needed 24 oz. ? The covering is the printed sticky back plastic that goes slack in the sun, Mr Vin Quang thinks it's wonderful. Yes it's VQ models. I fly on 4S with a 3548 840 kv motor, don't try the 3S in the manual as on 4S it will just flop over in a loop and that's with a shallow dive prior to the manoeuvre. The silver wings make orientation difficult on a grey cloudy day. The U/C is not scale and mine had CUB on the hub caps, I think this has now been changed in the recent kits. IIRC the all up weight is 7 1/2 pounds. It serves it's purpose for me as a cheap introduction to biplanes. I keep thinking I should put a bigger motor in, more power less lead. Denis Watkins
I got mine just before the 1st lockdown. I put a Saito 62 up front and just a 4oz weight. This is a small Sport/ nearly scale moth that looks the part. Plenty of room inside for any gear/ tank/ battery. Flys as expected, very steady and will help teach you a thing or two about small bipes. You can build it to fly from the complete box contents, but I swopped out my usual favourites. Low Bounce air wheels, and not the foam tyres provided, and a sturdier piano wire U/C. Otherwise, just build complete from the box.
Andy J
Thanks both. Intend to put an old laser engine in it so I hope not much ballast will be needed. Did see the comment on the HK reviews about the covering quality, but do have a fair amount of silver Solartex so could consider do a quick recover to the wings. Also saw a comment about the undercarriage being weak. Is there a mod for this?
