Martyn
Hi Newbie (ish) to this forum & just getting back into the swing of model flying after a long overdue pause. I purchased from ebay on tuesday a copy of Radio Modeller from 1988 as it includes a free plan of a funfighter Grumman "pocket rocket" F8F-2 Bearcat 36" 4ch. Made a start this afternoon with the fuselage formers & sides being cut and shaped from 1/8 sheet, the horizontal stab and flying surfaces from 3/16 sheet. The chap who designed this did so by fitting it out 4ch, anyone think it would be ok to bring it down to 3ch by omitting the rudder control? Did'nt ever remember a need for rudder authority with my Cambrian Funfighters from a few moons ago? Thoughts? A little start, C&C welcomed Mart Edited June 5, 2021 by Martyn
Bob Cotsford
4 channels was just showing off!? It should be just fine without a rudder.

Rich Griff
I am sure I have one of them in the loft ? The mag and plan look very familiar... You have modified it by sheeting the whole wing ?
Martyn
Hi Rich The plan calls for all top and bottom wing surfaces to be sheeted Best Mart

Martyn
Hi rich, i'll give Just Engines a bell and see. Managed to start some fuselage 1/8 x 3/16 planking today, on the rear sections only. I've also began to profile the wings inbetween knocking together a Pegasus / Galaxy Models Magician. Slow progress..... but its moving along though. Best Mart Edited January 30, 2022 by Martyn
Martyn
Hi Engine mount drilled and test fitted to the firewall, looking for access for the 1/4 sheet cowl build up. Comparing horsepower this morning, the R-2800 behind wins hands-down!! Mart

Nigel R
Looking good. ? I vaguely remember seeing the plan years ago and thinking it looked good, never got around to building it though. Is it one of John Rutter's many designs?

Martyn
Hi All the planking has been completed with the underside bellypan being the last to do. 1st time laying down this method & i'm not sure that I got it 100% right. The cockpit area around F4 has been released with some material to be lost on the actual former itself to allow a shallow cockpit floor to be glued in place.
