Braddock, VC
I can't believe it's 5 months since I last took a look in here, the acrowot is rising to the top of the pile, in between I've completed a wot4 artf, a black horse ultimate 120 a ripmax fox and they all have to be maidened. Next on the agenda is a wot4 mk3 to repair and a flair fokker d7 to refit the cabane struts that pulled out on me then it's finish the acrowot.....don't hold your breath though....... Jon Laughton
Well I started this thread a long time ago and as you can see from the pciture my Acrowot - "Whispering Louise" - is completed and was maidened in May of this year. The build was pretty much as per the instructions save for glass reinfircement internally in the forward fuselage and lit ply doublers to strengthen the mid fuselage. I fitted an OS 55AX and she flies superbly so my aerobatics are progressing apace. I have retrofitted a 2.4GHz Rx (Futaba) and a carbon fibre u/c from carbon copies. The tail wheel is steerable through connection to the rudder - I did buy a carbon copies' carbon fibre tail skid to replace this but haven't got around to fittiing it. With care take offs are staright even from our club's rutted grass field! I have had one prang due to an engine failure / dead stick just after take off at abobut 30 feet but the repair went well and it looks as good as new. I would definitely recommend this model to anyone who is looking to move on from basic flying to more advanced routines. Maybe I will eventually invest in an Extrawot....but right now I am waiting to maiden a Flight Power Katana also fitted with an OS55AX! (See below) Thanks to all who have contirbuted and good luck! Jon Laughton
Sorry to burst your bubble Ken but I am from Manchester and there is red as well as black / white in the colour scheme (deliberately)....for obvious reasons! I would never have a light blue model...... Hope The Toon make it back up though! Jon
Jon Laughton
Ken also noticed you have a photo of a MPX Blizzard in your album - have been thinking of investing in one of these - what's your advice? Jon
ken anderson.
hello jon-would not think about getting a blizzard-----just go and get one - you wont regret it pm me if you want any info...and also check out some of the thread's on this here forum-----there is a lot of tall tale's associated with the blizzard...ignore them..follow the instruction's and you'll end up with a really good model ..that will give you a lot of pleasure...and it will thermal like a goodin when the condition's are OK............... mpx blizzardo=good fun.............ken anderson.......... Jon Laughton
Thanks Ken, I may just do that - but how the heck am I going to find space in the already crowded 'hangar' / garage and not get 'flack' from the 'blonde one'? Paul Adams
Maidened my Acrowot this morning. What a flyer. Very smooth even in the wind. Powered by an OS 91 Surpass, so plenty of power. Only needed a slight bit of aileron correction to trim out. Inverted very good, Knife edge just about but would like a bit more rudder authority to really feel confident in Knife Edge flight. The only problem I had with it was spins, it just refuses to stall, just keeps slowing down and then mushes so will be fitting Flick Roll Strakes for the next outing. A bit of history about the model, it’s only taken just over 21 years to complete. Must be a record. When it was partly completed my wife became pregnant with my son, so the model room changed into a nursery, I gave up RC modeling and the acrowot (partly built at the time) was put in the attic. I only got back into the hobby a few years ago, and after reading this thread decided it was time to re- erect the Acrowot. Unfortunately when it came back down from the attic the veneer on the wings lifted (not really surprising after sitting so long in a damp attic). So I repaired the veneer and finished the model. I covered the whole model with fibreglass (hopefully strengthening the wings) and spray painted it. I thought that this may be a mistake when I weighed it and it came out at just over 6 pound, but today proved me wrong. I have not yet fitted the Cowling as I really need a day with little wind to get the engine side and down thrust right. So thanks folks for re-igniting my enthusiasm and persuaded me at last to pull my finger out and finish the model. Braddock, VC
Nice one paul, my first, late, acrowot was in the loft so long the kit box was full of soot, but hey, it flew fine. My next one is just built awaiting the wings and tail stuff covering and then it's ready, fuz is already covered in nylon and dope.
Glyn R
Just about to do an Acrowot using an Irvine 53. I want to fit a Pitts silencer to make it easy to get the exhaust underneath. I have a couple of planes with the engine rotated to 45 deg down which puts it out the bottom. its OK but fuel siphons out when the enigne is not running. Will a flat Pitts (Just Engines type) fit in the cowl.Edited By Glyn Rutter on 03/12/2009 15:24:

Braddock, VC
Getting ready to finally finish mine, Which one of these ought to go in? From top right clockwise, Thunder Tiger 91 4s, Saito 82 4s, Yamada 45 fs 2s with throttle pipe, Tigershark 91 2s with minipipe. The other pipe in the centre is an Irvine for 25fsr. ken anderson.
hello john-hard to say-if you want ballistic-1 flight wonder the 91 2st would be fun(not)...looking back in hindsight i would fancy the yamada...i've got a 91 4st in mine sound's good and will carry on vertical-But i think really it's too heavy..i've flown other's with lighter engine's in -and they feel more comfortable on the control's......... ken anderson...........(which ever one's are left over send them to Me ASAP).... Braddock, VC
Hi Ken, good choice, my original a/w had the yamada in it was absolutely ballistic at anything over 1/2 throttle and with the pipe on has the power of a (very) good 61 with oe muffler. The 91 2s I toyed with but the last a/w I had had the saito 82 with 14x6 JXF in and I have to say that it was a match made in heaven. The power is excellent, it's lighter than the yamada but it's on the idle it wins hand down, take her up highstall turn into vertical down on tickover, I've bottled out at three downward rolls but the combinationof prop braking plus the drag of ailerons seem to slow her right down to a crawl, but it don't half pick up speed when the taps are open. The TT 91 fs is another choice but it's a lot heavier for similar power to the saito but it does handle a larger prop, hmmmm decisions, decisions. Bruce Richards
I would be tempted to put the Saito 82 in it. Not too heavy but should have plenty of power. I have seen them fly well on 70 4strokes.Edited By Bruce Richards - Moderator on 15/12/2009 13:17:

oldSmithy
This is one I made earlier as they say with a TT91FS. Brilliant combination.I seem to remember taking 10mm off the front to accomodate the engine and to keep the cg in the right place. Tempted to get yet another.OldSmithy
Braddock, VC
Ken's wife, the acrowot is still unfinished, I managed to break the wingtip trailing edges off and it thoroughly demoralised me, so it's been sitting there forlornly ever since. I've sold the 91 2 stroke and the thunder tiger 91 4 stroke and the yamada has been put in a hangar 9 F 22 which also has yet to be finished, just like my extrawot, and 3 or 4 other models that are on the last knockings of construction. I've become deeply involved with the admin of my club and have barely flown in the last few years but I feel a resurgence coming on. What I need is an aeromodelling viagra-like pill to get me going......
