J D 8
Don't know what you mean by ' wing fixing scenarios ', clubmate has one with a Laser powering it. Lovely flyer and goes in his car in one piece.
ARC
what car has he got ? The top wing attaches with bolts and blind nuts , most that have to remove for transport complain the threads give out after a while
john davidson 1
Mine goes in in one piece-just (X-Trail) The top wing halves are held in place on the carbon rod by white sticky tape, holes in the fuse side to access the screws for the cabane. The bottom wing is accesssed by removing the cockpit It is a tough structure, I have cartwheeled it at least twice on landing with no damage, it has to be flown on under power to maintain rudder authority . Same on take off, keep the nose level , if you lift off too soon it turns smartly, usually hard left . good training for your left thumb. As already said a lovely flier, once you get it up there
ARC
Thanks John , I've a skoda karoq so might get away with. Did you find you need any rudder mix on the ailreons?
john davidson 1
I don't use mix, I also fly a 3D which gives plenty left thumb practice on rudder. I could see it being helpful though, a touch of rudder does bring the nose round better, you certainly know if the rudder is out of trim
ARC
Hi John , how did you find the 11cm from front of top wing for the c of g , just right or needed to come forward a little ?
john davidson 1
I just went out and measured , it is exactly 11cm behind front of top wing.I bought it from a deceased clubmates estate and either him or me actually has it marked at 11cm. Flies perfect at that once off the ground!
john davidson 1
Also, just returned from a test drive of the new electric Qashqai (with petrol generator) ,no X-Trail available yet, comparing it with my X-Trail the hatch is very much smaller, so changed my mind and will wait . My mate has a Karok and it certainly has a wide opening so I think you will be ok.
ARC
thanks John much appreciate the info. I'm not impressed with how the top wing is secured. If it fits in your car in one piece did you consider epoxying the upper wing halves together with the balsa connector for the central strut? john davidson 1
No white sticky tape does the job, never thought of glue
ARC
think I'm going to try in my car in one piece , if it goes in i'm going to glue the top wing halves together.
john davidson 1
Cartwheeled it on landing a few times, the tape might give a bit of absorption , amazing no damage has resulted. Tough bird. Also hit the electric fence with the legs once It has dural legs and which bend badly on every landing and maybe contribute to the behaviour, found a set of composite ones in the depth of the shed today , try them for size on Friday Edited October 12, 2022 by john davidson 1 addition
