Home-made mini Spitfire

Recommended Posts

So, I've been faffing about building this mini Spitfire out of some spare sheets of 5mm foam.  Wingspan is about 23.5ins, and it's a KFM2 aerofoil.

It'll be 3-channel - elevator, aileron and throttle - but I'm not sure what sort of motor/prop/ESC/battery combo to use.

For my SEMFF profile Depron models - which are a bit bigger at 28-29" span - I've been using the 20g pole and stator motors from Robotbirds, their 6amp ESC, 450mah 2s1p packs and GWS 8x6" props and that gives good performance and keeps the model below 250g. That's for the simple profiles, whilst for the cruciform models I might go as large as 800mah. You might be able to come down in motor size and battery size to save an extra bit of weight.

I was rummaging around in the shed, and I forgot I had these in there - the motor is a Turning 2204-14T, weighing about 30g with the propeller. ESC is a little 10a job, and the battery is a 2s 350mah job.  Useable?

I forgot to add that the bare model weighs about 50g.
