Hunter
Hi, I was wondering if someone could suggest a brushless motor to replace a gws ips dx2 motor with 4:14:1 gearbox The model is a Peter Rake design, Plafz E1, 30” span originally powered by a IPS would appreciate your recommendations Many thanks Marl
Shaun Walsh
Hacker a10 with 4.4:1 gearbox perhaps? Available in 3 different Kv ratings to suite the battery/prop combination required. Just make sure that cooling is adequate as, over time, excessive heat breaks down the adhesive holding the pinion onto the motor shaft and you lose drive. Easy enough to fix, the gearbox unscrews easily and you just have to reattach the pinion with permanent loctite and reassemble.
Shaun Walsh
Alternatively a small direct drive motor should do the job, what is the weight of the model and what size prop do you want to use?
Hunter
Hi Shaun thanks for getting back to me. The finished model weight is approx 6.25 ozs, 175 grams, and the recommended prop is a GWS 7”* 5”, the original battery was a 350 mah lipo hope that helps with your recommendation cheers Mark

Shaun Walsh
Assuming a 2s battery, given the weight something like this should be perfectly adequate. https://www.4-max.co.uk/ppom-2321.htm
leccyflyer
Hunter - I guess that you'll be looking for a motor that can also mount onto the typical stick mount of the IPS?
