Bruce Richards
I have just made this trophy to be awarded to the best crasher at our club annual funfly competition. I am so please with it I thought I would show you all. Prop was provided by anther club member who has a large petrol Extra 300.
Martin Harris - Moderator
I recall being the proud recipient of the "Stack of the Month" trophy (a very dilapilated scrap transmitter) by the Watford Wayfarers on more than one occasion in the mid-seventies! Nowadays we mostly seem to all be far too sensible and scared of setting off the "don't celebrate crashes or they might be used in evidence against you" brigade. Any Watford Wayfarers out there - do they still present the trophy?
Bruce Richards
That's a good pint Martin. After some thought I have decided to call it the Trophy for the best "unplanned landing"
Ross Clarkson
Brilliant trophy. Very subtle but still straight to the point, and would not look out of place on a mantel-piece!!
Simon Chaddock
I agree. Awarding a trophy for what might have been quite an expensive event for the recipient might not go down too well. I suppose it all depends on what is the meaning of "best". Perhaps the luckiest or most skilful landing might be better appreciated. Like the Martin Baker ties & pins. Each represents a life saved but I bet it cost somebody (usualy the tax payer) a great deal of money in the process.
Bruce Richards
This is a trophy purely for our club fun fly competition. The events challenge competitors to fly to the limit of their skills and those that try to fly beyond those limits often end up meeting the ground in an unplanned manner. Everyone knows this before they choose to take part and no one uses an expensive or cherished model in the competition. It is all done for fun and those club members that do not like this kind of flying and the inevitable risks involved do not take part. I do understand what you say and the Trophy could just add insult to injury but knowing the spirit in which the event is run I am sure no one will be upset by this. Doug Ireland
I think its a great idea! Perhaps you could get some photos of the winning "arrival"?
