  1. Blimey, that is expensive, i might try Bob's hobbies in Orlando and see how much it will be posted here, got to be worth a try ! regards Chris.
  2. Hi all, what size ic engine would be a good retro fit for the E25 follow on trainer? Thank you Chris.
  3. So why would you have a satellite if the rx works ok on its own ? Surely if you fit a satellite, that is just something to go wrong when really it is not needed? See ? now i get confused, buy Spekky and you need lots of satellite rx's, or just use one and it works ok, so why connect a satellite if it causes a problem? Lots to be said for good old 35 mgs Regards Chris.
  4. So don't spekky rx's work without the satellite then? Chris.
  5. Hi all, if the Waco is built to the same standard as the Stearman then i want one too !!!! Anyone know size weight etc ? And when will we get it here ? Thanks all Chris.
  6. Smells like castor / synthetic to me , used it a bit, don't like it. Chris
  7. Brilliant, thanks all. I will get on and spray !!! Regards Chris.
  8. Hi all, just wondered why some people use dope on top of solartex ? Is it just to fill the weave of the covering or does it help to shrink it ? Thanks in advance Chris.
  9. Hi JVR, i have a JP Piper Cub from Galaxy models flying with a Saito .40, it is perfect ! It will fly for about 45 minutes on the supplied tank. Regards Chris. PS it is about £50.00 for the kit, good value .
  10. I hope " The anatomy of a trainer" is in it this month, i am starting to look a bit silly at the field telling the newbies to go out and but the latest RCM&E, as that will tell you all you want to know. Actually, a good point, if it is not there i could write my own for the newies, good plan !!   Regards Chris.
  11. Garry, a very big thank you Regards Chris.
  12. Hi Daniel, i use futaba and s303 std servo's on my 1/4 scale Stampe's, no problems what so ever. I have one Stampe powered by a Saito 120 f/s and the other is powered by a S C 180, very much overkill on the engine front but you don't need full throttle all the time !!!!! So, yes std Futaba servo's will be more than capable in the Cub. One Rx battery of a reasonable capacity will be fine ( galaxy do a 4 or 5 cell rx pack of 3,300mah which will be fine.) Hope this helps a bit regards Chris.
  13. Hi all, i wonder if someone could help me out with the C of G on the Puperteer? I have managed to mis-lay ( read lost) the instructions and need to know where it is located. Thank you in advance Chris.
  14. Faraday cage effect, no problem unless you are actually touching earth !!!!! Composite or ally, all will react the same, no problem to passengers, not sure about the on-board electronics though !! I will investigte and let you know though. Regards Chris   P.S. PDR would be a good one to answer this.
  15. Hi Tony, yep the RMX was the last ones to come from the MDS factory. They were fitted with a better carb, much more efficient cooling fins and performed very well. They like 10% nitro and a good old Enya no3 plug ( a Taylor with an idle bar is better if you can get one ) I would use a 11 x 7 prop ( this is what i have on mine in a Super Air ), they are a very good engine, not difficult to set up like the MDS were, BUT, they do take a lot of running in, lots of people gave up after a couple of tankfulls because of cutting in the air, they do need a lot of running in to work properly, do this and you will have very reliable engines, not the most powerful, but good reliable engines.   Hope this helps a bit Chris   Were, not was ! oopsEdited By Chris Channon on 13/05/2011 18:39:41
  16. Did i miss the article on an anotomy of a trainer? I was sure it was supposed to be about two months ago, is it going to happen? regards Chris.
  17. Hehehe, i put a Super Custom .91f/s in a Ripmax artf Tiger Moth, it did go very well, just a bit quick on take off , also the fire-wall came loose after a while !!!!! Good fun though ! regards Chris.
  18. Hi Tim, i also lost two aeroplanes using Futaba 2.4 gear, no reason just did not respond to the Tx, the Super Air did not go into fail-safe, just stopped and went in. For me i have gone back to 35 megs , it always worked well in the past. Saw a heli go in a couple of weeks ago, very competent pilot, and he just had no control, two weekends ago another guy lost his aeroplane on climb out, again no control, for me, 2.4 is not reliable enough to fly a model aeroplane around, we have been lucky, no-one was hurt, i honestly can see the day when something bad happens. I wonder, just as an aside, how many more incidents ( claims) have arisen on our BMFA insurance since 2.4 became available? Really no point in flying a model if you are not sure that you will be able to fly the whole tank out without a problem, as i say, i have gone back to 35, a few more have followed. regards Chjris.
  19. Hi all just for info, when heating any engine part, use a hot air gun, the paint stripper type, this will not damage the alloy, using a flame type heat source always has the damage factor. Regards as always Chris.
  20. Hi Steve, honestly, standard servo's will be fine, there are lots available i use the standard servo's from Galaxy models, these are slightly more powerful than Futaba 3003's but at about 2/3ds of the price. Bought loads and never had one fail, i have these in my Stampe ( 1/4 scale) and in my Great Planes Stearman again 1/4 scale. they are brilliant. A lot of people "over servo" if there is such a thing, their models, really not needed. Hope this helps a bit, ask a question and you will get 20,000 different replies ! regards as always and happy flying, Chris.
  21. Hi all, saw a guy a few weeks ago fly a junior 60, rudder and elevator only, with a Futaba top of the range 14mz tranny !! And that was one of two models he owns, both on rudder and elevator ! Hehehe, ok for some. Regards all Chris.
  22. Hi all, i have two Paul Grey Hawks, both ic d/fan, one with an Irvine .46 d/fan engine and the other with an OS .46 engine. Both fly really well. I have flown a hawk on a standard engine, it did fly but was very low on power, the irvine will turn a Micro-mold fan unit at well over 22,000, ample power to fly the hawk. The plans are still available from the RCM&E plans site. I do use a Robbe tuned pipe and 10% nitro fuel with castor for lubrication, ( these engines do run hot ) Hope this helps a bit, regards Chris.
  23. Nothing wrong with MDS, just the people trying to set them up to run well, lots of people on here have MDS and like them. I like them, i own OS, Saito, Irvine, SC, engines but still like the MDS .40 in the trainer, it has taught loads of people to fly and never, hand on heart, missed a beat. really good engines, a lat of setting up, ( 10% nitro with a Taylor long reach with idle bar ) but you will be rewarded with a very long life engine. Too many people set them up to rev like god knows what and then complained that they did not last long. regards Chris
  24. Hi all, so was the crash because of the tinned but not soldered joint as per BEB ? Thanks Chris.
