  1. Posted by Andy Stephenson on 02/04/2020 11:43:50: Posted by Sheepish on 27/03/2020 21:12:42: Hi Andy I’m not surprised it was a beast, the original had a Super Tigre x15 and a very natty paisley nylon finish judging by the RM cover it featured on. I should think the OS 32 had twice the power. Definitely bicycle clips time. Shaun I originally asked in my local model shop for an OS25FSR for it but the owner said you don't want one of those have an OS32 instead they are the latest thing. I took one look at the original on the front cover of RM and thought that style of fabric was a bit 1970s so I covered it in Glosstex instead. Over-weight over-powered, what could possible go wrong. Hi Andy, that’s the cover! My eyes where did Sean find that nylon👍 I have also recently built again from my 1980’s plan the 2m Algebra. Another good looking and great build. I can remember this one being flown by Sean at Sandown demonstrating the original F3b type routines.
  2. Tim I had the same dilemma with the Spektrum gear I had. In the end I bought a QX7 which I now use for DLG flying and learnt the Frsky way of doing things with that. It’s small size and lighter weight sold it to me for DLG use. I now have an X9E as well and no Spektrum except for some receivers which I can use with a module in the X9E. Don’t underestimate the learning curve with the Frsky gear especially for programming gliders. There is plenty of information out there but I found I had to work it out for myself using the tutorials in the end rather than using the ready made templates that can be downloaded. If you are very familiar with Futaba as I was with Spekturn it will be a bit of a culture shock. Good luck with the choice 😎
  3. Hi Tim Have you seen the Frsky Fasst compatible receivers? Check out T9 hobby sport or Horus RC. I’m not a Futaba user but I do use Frsky in all my models now including DLG. Another alternative would be to add a module to your TX if it’s possible and use the GRX6 or similar perhaps? Shaun

  5. Sean Bannister Zippy, Irvine 20 power waiting for a maiden flight sometime when.
  6. Hi Tim You tube is great for videos on launch technique, Pierre Menuier and Marcus Stent are names to look for. There are model reviews too but it gets expensive if the disease catches a hold on you. Shaun
  7. Hi Tim A bit of a trek for both of us then 😎 I’m not sure about the rules here on mentioning other forums but RC Groups is worth a look. I don’t do Facebook but there might well be something there too. Have a look at Hyperflight and Superfly sites too if you haven’t seen them both. Shaun
  8. Hi Tim try a look at the BARCS site forums. where a outs are you I have started to fly DLG down here on the south coast.
  9. Hi Try a search for “Highlight” on the BARCS site. (British Association of Radio Controlled Soarers) if you haven’t already done so. IIRC there was a thread on this very subject not long ago. I am sure if you also posted some pictures of what you have on the site someone will be along with whatever information you need.
  10. Hi Take a look at any of the F3 res electric kits. The kits are exceptional and all the designs fly well. if you want a bigger glider look at the F5j introduction or inside.
  11. Another way to end up with unexpected trim reversal is to replace the standard stick units with Hall effect ones and forget the change the down load for the TX firmware to hours sticks or similar. I’ve had this twice now, once on my QX7 that I changed the sticks on and once on a second hand X9e that had had the sticks changed but not the firmware before I owned it.
  12. Same problem for me too with my Hawk. I repaired it using light weight glass cloth and four flat carbon fibre sticks 5mm wide x 0.5 mm about 40mm long under the cloth on the outside. I broke mine completely and stuck these to the pod first with superglue to aid rejoining the boom in a straight line. I wrapped it afterwards with some black electrical tape to make my repair a bit tidier. Not sure I would have got anything extra inside the boom with the pushrods. Flys great still after the repair.
  13. I hope this solves your problem. I wanted to be able to simulate engine cuts and throttle inner and outer pairs separately and also be able to cut pairs of engines on the Lanc. This was all possible but it did require a bit of creative thinking and me remembering the translation between heli terms and fixed wing terms in the program. It will be interesting to see what you end up with.
  14. One possible way of doing this is using the heli canned program on a programmable TX. I did this many years ago with an old JR X-347. I had a Chris Golds Lancaster and set it up with the inner engines on one servo as the throttle on the heli set up and the outer engines as the pitch servo on the same heli program. This allowed me to have hold functions, throttle cuts and throttle curves on the pairs of engines. The Lanc never worked out that it wasn’t a heli I am just getting to grips with Frsky now and I guess anything you can think of would be possible with that if you have the time to spend working it out.
  15. I have been a user of Weston Prosynth 2000 5% and 10% for at least 8 years. Started using when I got tired of the price of Model Technics. I run it in 4 stroke and 2 stroke engines from OS, Irvine, ASP & Laser with no problems. I have never had a bearing problem and have very few issues with gumming up even after leaving engines for over a year with no usage. I get comments about why use it when you don’t what’s in it but it works for me and I have never heard a poor comment from anyone who has actually used it.
  16. Hi Nigel, Many Years ago I can remember flying one of these quite a bit. It was a club members model and it flew very well. It was no light weight as it had been repaired a few times and was a bit oil soaked. It was powered with two of the original OS FS 20 four strokes and would just about fly on one engine. It made a really good twin trainer which was how it had been set up with separate throttle servos so you could cut either engine and practice single engine flying. It would turn towards either engine but the low power margin made it interesting and generally downhill once one had quit. On two engines it was great and quite aerobatic and a great sound with two four strokes too. Hope that helps a bit
  17. Hi Tim, have a look at a RES Dart from Hyperflight (or directly from the German supplier) or search for Orion 7 Neurflugel on the internet. I have just built the RES Dart and it’s a really good kit. I have the Orion 7 to build next and this is a 3 m wooden glider for pure gliding or electric power. PM me if you want more information.
  18. Didn't see the previous post about Pegasus before I posted Doh! You could also look at Brodak in the USA. I have used them before and they gave me good service. Try not to look at all the kits though, it gets expensive.....
  19. Have you tried Pegasus models, they sell the SIG items in various sizes. I have used them on several occasions and they are a good thickness and well moulded. Good price and reasonable postage from Pegasus too.
