  1. I have an update on the above Irvine 46 Engines running on Formula Irvine 5% and black oil trace syndrome.  I lost the locknut and the long bolt through the silencer and nearly lost the back end as well. Knowing the thread on this set up is an unusual size I replaced this bolt with a long stainless steel M3 rod and locknuts etc and guess what no deep black oil traces after numerous flights. 2. Hello Bruce I once went to a 4 cell operation on a 3 cell motor and found that the power rating on the watt meter went from 300 to over 450 watts so now you can see why the motor is running hotter. Regarding cooling spinners these are useful if the motor is out in an open cowl but if you have a motor in a Glider Nose you will have to look at opening up any cooling holes without weakening the bulk head. If you are looking for a bit more climb out could a slightly larger prop help on a 3 cell battery. You will need a watt meter

  8. Just to update I have the Irvine 46 in the Wot 4 on 11 x 7 and OS 46 in the Acro Wot on 11 x 7 both on 5% and I could not ask for any more in power requirements. I feel putting in a bigger engine 52 or 55 would make this too ballistic to control in manoeuvres for me personally Thanks for all your comments
  9. Hi Steve a little of subject but my Irvine engines (3) kick out black oil traces compared with my OS engine which is a clear oil trace. I am using same Formula Irvine 5% fuel in all engines, maybe Engine Doctor may read this and help
  10. One for the Tech Team, is it possible to set up a small check list to see how many times an add has been looked at, similar to the forum page. I only ask this has I have not had much success at selling but more success at responding to wanted parts. Or maybe a poll to ask if members would want this Edited By RC Plane Flyer on 17/08/2015 18:38:55

  14. Thank You All for comments and it looks like a Irvine 53 or OS55 would be the answer will stick to two strokes. Will have to keep an eye open for a larger engine. For now I will go for the OS46 and try various props to get the performance
  15. I trust I do not start a lot of comments I have an ARTF Acro Wot but a choice of engines either OS 46 or Irvine 46 ( By OS ) any suggestion's as the Irvine in my Wot 4 is a dream ( I run my engines on Formula Irvine 5%

  18. Hi Tony My first plane with snakes 15 or more years ago I used the plastic inner to join to the servo arm and the clevis for the elevator etc Wrong the plane lasted 30 mins I was advised by the flying trainer person after the crash that I should have replaced the first section from servo arm to outer with metal and the second section from the outer to the rear with metal sections so that the inner plastic does not flex under load . So if you can replace the inner with the right size wire you should have more confidence in the operation
  19. Hi Andy PM sent but to advise on Line I have two of what you are looking for.
  20. Although it may feel smooth to turn by hand I have had a similar motor and the bearings had failed after a broken prop on a rushed landing. Very easy to get hold of and change

  24. I have 2 x 2200 3s Nanotech and they do swell a little after a mixed flight schedule and aired to the touch having checked these over quite a few times after flights I am of the opinion that the Shrink Wrap around the batteries is well sealed as when I get home to recharge them the swelling has gone down and back to normal for the next flight . Just my observation and yes the power is getting down a little after 3 years worth
  25. Hello there I have just ordered replacement bearings for my Irvine 46 same problem rear bearing starting to go I read the various threads on removal and actually got mine out by heating the crankcase with a hot air gun. So when I come to get them back in do I use the hot air gun again to warm the crankcase up and have the rear bearing on the crank to slide in or can I put the bearings in the freezer for an hour or so to drop in and wait for room temperature before the rebuild ??
