  1. Hi all I am currently refurbishing my 46 size Hangar 9 Corsair. This involves a new donkey (OS55) and repaint of the cowl which has got very tatty. Should go like a rocket with the new engine.? I am looking for advice on paint for the cowl. Has anyone done a similar repaint job and if so what make of paint was used. I do not have any spray equipment, or airbrush, so I am having to rely on commercial spray cans of car paint (yes I know I will need fuel proof etc). I went to a local paint supplier and got some RAL 5003 Blue which looked to be good but initial results show it will not be a great match. Ford Royal Blue from Halfords looked promising but was in no way the same colour as on the lid? I'm not after a super scale job, just a finish that looks OK. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks in advance LPP
  2. Hi there I am pondering on whether to build a DB Excellence as my next project. It is a low winger span 48ish. Original design was for a OS20 Four stroke. Question is what to power it with. I am a bit of a traditionalist and generally prefer glow. I do not have a suitable 4 stroke but have an OS20FP available. However would this be a bit small power wise? Has anyone had experience of doing an electric conversion recently on the plan which was a free plan in RCM&E in Nov 19 or advice on this. I have an E Flite BF15 (EFL8463) 880Kv brushless out-runner plus E Flight 40 Amp BEC ESC, which powered an E flite PT17 biplane until the top wing departed and re-kitted the plane (total wreck). Think the prop on this install was an 11/7. Question is would this be a good match for the DB Excellence? I think it would run at 9 to 10K on a 3S? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance LPP
  3. No the Fus. was covered in Oracover and then I changed plan and decided to overpaint it Red. I used spray car paint (Ford Sunburst Red). The area around the fairing at the back of the canopy was made smoother using P40 car filler.
  4. Hello Nick I reworked my old Acrowot over the winter. Now in the air and has become my goto model for now. They do fly very well. I have stuck with a single central servo for ailerons which is just fine although I do prefer to use two. I used car spray paint for the Fus and Oracover for wings etc. Suggest you use a Dubro fuel tank as they can be set up to have a double clunk which makes defuel at the end of a flying session very simple. I always use 3 colours for fuel pipes. Clear for feed to carb. red for pressure feed and green for refuel/defuel. Ref instructions in original kit ref side thrust I did not follow for the rebuild and I put engine on with no side thrust and that seems fine with my selected engine(OS55 2 Stroke). My original build was with an OS70 4 stroke and it always needed rudder to correct a vertical climb. Not so now. Anyway have fun on your build.
  5. Perhaps a look at the battery connections and charge point could be worthwhile.
  6. Try contacting the Wrexham MAC or the club that flies from the Singing Kettle along the A55 (forgot the name). You should be able to get contact details from BMFA or just Google search. Your local Model shop would be Steve Webb at Frodsham by the way and they would be able to give advice and relieve you of your cash at the same time.!!!!?. I used to fly at the Sealand and Wrexham sites many years ago. There is also a club close to Frodsham I think as well. LPP
  7. HI Tizmas. Welcome to the hobby and the Forum. OK here is what I suggest: 1. Join a local club. 2. Obtain a high wing trainer, (2nd hand or new) such as a Seagull Boomerang. Use an OS 46 Engine. 3. Get help to fly the trainer and get proficient before progressing. 4. Get a more advanced aircraft, such as a WOT4 or an Acrowot. Wot 4 could use the 46 5. Get practised on the more advanced plane. Learn aerobatics basics 6. Only now think about the P51 unless you want to risk the obvious Note I do not think a Decathlon would be an ideal trainer. Regarding the P51. H9 models are really lovely so please enjoy. Best Regards LPP
  8. Flew my Acrowot (Power OS55, APC 13x6) yesterday. Light breeze. Acrowots and Wot 4s are well known for floating on. Mine does have this tendency. However the trick to get decent landings is in my opinion in a good low tick-over on the engine plus a good line up on finals. Too fast and she will float on easily. Fortunately my new OS55 has a great low tick-over and I was easily able to get a nice 3 point landing in a breeze. I agree that 2 stroke can be noisier than a 4 stroke. However not always so when you cruise on less than 1/2 throttle. My experience with my OS55 has been great as it will provide the power, as and when needed, but will happily cruise my Acrowot on 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. Simple really, do not bash around at full throttle and use a larger prop. Plus 1/2 price compared to a new 4 stroke. I do see the advantages of electric, especially at a noise sensitive site, however I am reluctant to go fully electric as I am not keen on some of the issues that high power LIPOs have. Namely disposal when Life-Ex.
  9. Just completed my rebuild and maiden of my old OS70 engine kit build Acrowot. Re-engined with a new OS55. I reckon it flies better with the 2 stroke (using 13/6 APC Prop)
  10. Well the refurb Acrowot had her maiden on Wednesday. Flew very well and only adjustment was to cut down movement on elevator as it was a bit too fierce. Engine suits the airframe well. I reckon she flys better that when new! Very pleased with the results.
  11. Try Just Engines. I think SC were the same as ASP engines and Just Engines were supplied and supported/repaired by them.
  12. Finally nearly there. Just engine run and general adjustments to do. Quite pleased with colour scheme. Originally it was to be yellow/silver but the red looked nice so went with that. New Engine is an OS55. Last flew with an OS70 4 stroke many years ago.
  13. I have a Laser 155 and and a 70 so have needed remote glow for both. I used a croc clip covered in fuel tube for insulation. I cover it in 2 -3 bits so that you can still use as a croc clip and easily remove. So far they have stayed on. I like the idea of a spring however. Neat. Now where to get the correct size of spring.... Cheers LPP
  14. Can I ask what connectors do you use for remote glow connection at the plugs please. All the commercial ones I can find do not stay connected on my Laser 155.
  15. Really great idea Jon. This one would love to join in. Regards LPP
  16. Thanks for the comments Matt. I like your colur scheme the checks are very effective. My 46 is pretty old but a good reliable runner. The model has become a firm favorite especially as she was good value. Such a change from ARTFs.
