free magazine with Dec. 2013 issue
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to thunderstreak.keith's topic in RCM&E Magazine
I don't particularly want a model boats magazine but Towlers in Thirsk split them up and sold them seperately. -
Servo Plug crimpers
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to Clifford Stone's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
I've always been on the lookout for a crimper that would work on battery balance plugs as well as servo plugs but so far no luck. -
I moved up to the DX 8 from DX 6i this summer and couldn't be more happy. If you want to have something to really moan about you try returning to 27 mHz.

Rest In Peace, Nelson Mandela 95 yrs old
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to Chuck Plains's topic in Chit-chat
Nothing much I can add to the sentiments expressed here, I just feel very lucky to have been alive at the same time as the great man. -
My brother and his wife bought, for my 65th birthday, a profile 'Hummer' and it's been the one consistent model I flown all year. I keep saying I must get on and complete some projects I have on the go but with any chance of flying, throw the 'Hummer' in the car and go flying. There were times over the summer, with early starts and late finishes, I managed to get two sessions in a day, just wish it didn't take so long to recharge all my lipo's.

Reaching into those plane eating trees

In extreme I have a fishing bait catapult but it's only to be used as a last resort. -
Police Helicopter Crash
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to scott finnie's topic in All Things Model Flying
As I said I've been out of the loop for some time and glad to be corrected. I still wouldn't have a go in a helicopter unless my life depended on it. Learn't to fly on fixed wing and I'll stick with that. -
What I Have In Common With Douglas Bader
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to David Davis's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
I don't know if the story's true or not, I just hope it was. -
Police Helicopter Crash
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to scott finnie's topic in All Things Model Flying
I might have been out of the loop for awhile but the information I have is that there was no recorded auto rotations, in anger, successfully completed, majority of failures where from the gearbox which allowed no recovery. Hope I'm wrong on this but you wouldn't get me up in one. -
Police Helicopter Crash
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to scott finnie's topic in All Things Model Flying
At a time like this I hate to state historic evidence but from a flight safety point of view there has never been a successful autogyration recovery no matter how often it's been practised in exercises. My thought and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones. -
How many of these actually took to the air?
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to Brian Cheyne's topic in Warbird kits
Bits keep surfacing on ebay from time to time. Where I previously flew a guy came up to me and said he was getting it for his son. I pointed out that a Spitfire isn't a trainer and the cost was prohibitive. Never did see a finished product, that was quite a few years ago. See they are marketing a non flying model of the Spitfire at the moment, I wonder if it's the remnants of their previous campaign. -
I don't know if it's what your looking for but I've been flying a 'Hummer' from HobbyKing for a few months and it's been a heck of a lot of fun. It's also been a lot of glue and repair but that might be just me, it's still a lot of fun.

Not a tree but the last playing field that I used had a old cast iron bus shelter for any spectators that might want to watch a match out of the rain. It wasn't very big but it was painted green. My small, 3 channel, glider entered one side and only the fuselage emerged on the other side. Green, why did they paint it green.

Colin, I know I'm lucky to be able to fly when I like, I'm retired, the hooligan element is how I fly, anything else and I'm not really trying. Anyway foam repairs easily.
-
Just have to brag that I've flown 12 batteries out at over 6 minutes each being a irresponsible hooligan with my Hummer. Not bad for the last week in November.

There was a case not so long ago, a Landrover Discovery I think, breaking down in the outside lane of a motorway due to it's electric handbrake coming on.

I had trouble signing in, in the end I changed the password incase mine had been compromised. It's ok now.

The other thing to check out is the availability of the receivers and cost of RX.

I find HK reliable and cheap, yes I've had some disapointing lipos from them but I've also had some from other well known suppliers of 3S 2200mAh which have puffed up overnight for no perceptive reason., so I think it's often 'pays your money, take your chance'. In general I'm a big fan of HobbyKing.

I used flaperons on my WOT 4 but had to tame them down, they were a bit fierce, you've got to try out this sort of thing.
-
It's not important whether IC or electric as long as it dosn't frighten the horses. I always fly electric having developed a aversion to trying to start diesels on C/L models in winter. I don't think there's any pills I can take.

Welcome Colin. This is the forum if you need to find out anything, it's helped me loads of times.

It has that rare WW I camoflage for flying over orange and silver ground.

Suggestions for first foamie?
malcolm woodcock 1 replied to KingKade's topic in Sport, Aerobatic and 3D kits
I'm very fond of my 'Hummer' that my brother got me for my last birthday, it soaks up a lot of punishment. HobbyKing do them.
