Posted by David Mellor on 26/11/2017 18:54:12: Gun deaths are tragic. But not statistically the biggest killer in "Americans-on-Americans". American Big Tobacco kills over 480,000 Americans annually. American Beef and Corn Syrup kills over 300,000 Americans annually (obesity premature death). American Alcohol kills more than 80,000 Americans annually. Drugs and cars kill more than 80,000 Americans annually. That is a staggering 940,000 American citizens killed annually by Tobacco, bad food, booze, drugs and cars. Guns (and I am the last person to defend them) are the least of their problems........ But Brits are smoking, fat, alcoholic, drug taking, speeders. But at least don't shoot each other.

Posted by Percy Verance on 26/11/2017 17:45:08: On balance, if I were at a loose end - which I'm not - after reading all this I might seriously consider returning to work for the Undertaker I once did.......... And as odd as it may seem, one of the happiest people I ever met was the mortuary attendant at a local hospital. He whistled and sang all the time as he worked..... Edited By Percy Verance on 26/11/2017 17:47:50 Yes, I found that as well. Odd.

For balance David, make sure you rid the numbers of the suicides. Each nation has its preferred method, the French hang, Brits like gassing themselves, and societies with guns shoot.

Robin. Point one, he SAYS he feared for his life, so he shot. He is either a very frightened man with a gun, or a vengeful man with a gun. Small point, I was a copper for thirty years, and from personal experience, or the memories of others, I have never had any experience of a violent burglar. A very rare event, and were those two scrotes violent, can't remember. And before you say, pull that trigger and be dammed, in an armed society, the police are armed. And make a grab for their gun, they will kill to protect it, and frighten them, and they kill before they sort out what is happening. In my career I have badly hurt people, and sometimes , on reflexion, such damage was not needed. But still justified in the eyes of the law as a reasonable response. But at least they were still breathing. Trouble is with guns, is they can end an argument well. But best be sure you are right.

Dai, I stand corrected. Thank you for your care of my continued education.

Dai bach, I am a great admirer of Edward 1st. And sing the third verse of the national anthem to cheer me up. And you do not have a northern border, merely one to the east, with Lloegr. And in my extensive experience, your nations alleged peaceful coexistence with northern cousins, does not tie in to actuality, when I hear loud denials of their existence in any formal family context. May your propellor remain unbroken. Edited By Don Fry on 26/11/2017 13:04:07

And going back to the original post, where a fool, at night, opens up with a firearm, at long range, at a target he can't see, with no knowlege do what is behind the target. I think, living in the police state known as the United Kingdom, is preferable.

But Tony, if you think there is much connection between law and rationality, you have not studied law. Examine the punishment between misuse of a firearm and shooting someone, and misuse of a car and killing someone, and I challenge you to give a rational explanation. Politicians perceivie a greater willingness in their voters to accept death by car, because stopping the problem effects their use of cars. So the law remains irrational on the subject. I accept a correction as to evil, substitute another word meaning bad things, bad outcomes, misguided inventions with bad consequences.

Are you accusing me of being Taff?

24th February 2018 it is then. Mr Jones might need a hair dry a few England brains to correct thought patterns. But, I will expect the hair dryer to be applied before then. I hope.

Sorry Tony, my background is as a shooter, started as an eight year old, .410, culling pidgeons for local farmers. Moved on via 12 bore to target rifles, 10000 rounds a year for many years, to National standard, I once beat Malcolm Cooper when he was an Olympic Champion ( once). Secretary of a large club, and as a favour to a mate, culling dear on a meat production estate. Society has a right to irrational laws between evils. My views as to murder by speeding in a car at not popular. I accept it. And a view that a gun is evil is a rational view, perhaps not my view, but has rationality. It is not the making of a police state. Your view that you have not met oddball gun owners does not equate with my experience. Bottom line gun ownership can attract gun lovers, rather than gun users. Just as fast cars attract speed freaks rather than people why like a bit of power under the right boot. I once acquired a semi automatic pistol. The magazine needed a new spring, the old owner slept with it fully loaded under his pillow, hence the worn spring. His gun club, who rarely saw him, defended his ascertion he was a member in good standing. Also I remember an old odd "fact" that more NYPD officers were injured in gum related accidents than shot by criminals. I do not attest to the accuracy of the last statement, it is a memory. I no longer shoot, when my eyes ceased to accommodate, age, I accepted I had a future of slowly getting a worse shot. But nowadays I have to say I am neutral as to whether society should move shooting towards our view of bear baiting, or whether it is a demonstration of skill.

If I were a Jock, and I thank the Lord I am not, but if I were, their vision, work rate, and skill over this week, and last, would fill me with pride and hope. Going to Murryfield ain't going to be a walk in the park for quite a while methinks.

Tony it is forever so. Change gun for drone in your last two paragraphs.

A puzzle, HobbyKing on an order this week said free shipping. And charged me 6 Euro on 200 Euro. Not really too bothered, as I got a load of stuff at good price. So did not object. . But today I had the postage returned. So we can sum HK as an organisation. Dipsy, dozy, really annoying. But a little honest, not half bad. Web site still sucks. -
The smell of petrol mostly comes from the bigger non volatile molecules in the mix, rather than the 8 carbon octane wot does the whoosh bit. I you slightly wet some rag in petrol, air dry it, and store in a Tupperware box until needed. Put in front of a fan, it will stink. But the smelly bits will be the carcinogenic bits. And in fairness, you have not got an argument to counter the health and safety position of why panic your audience, what procedures have you done to satisfy yourself this is not explosive, and indeed what the carcinogenic risk is to the audience. Do theatrical suppliers do petrol smells. If not, there is a clue there.

My last attempt replacement for my current machine was to too big, too fast, and seemed to give a wide cut. Fine on ply. But I don't fancy stumping up on a top notch machine. Only building toy planes. Toy planes? I slap you with my gauntlet and will see you on the lower lawn sir!,,,, Unluckily I am the one across the valley, overlooking the lawn, with the medium caliber machine gun. Enjoy. Think I might have a punt when these come up in la belle France.

Give a opinion, Gordon. My Dremel motorshop is on its last legs, motor starting to run hot. I bought a second hand Famous British badge machine (can't remember name) but It was single speed, bigger than the Dremel, and I found it was a bit fast cutting for our use, and got shot of it to a dolls house maker. I notice, when Lidl offer these, they are the same machine.

Fool replying to own question, having looked at Aldo's advert, plain or pin. And looking at it I would say this is a generic machine, badged by everyone, been about for years, with a good reputation. And cheap at that price.

What sort of blade does it use?

I have been worried about Martin's future all morning. Those fuel soaked jeans in the washing machine might well leave enough odour to make madam's lingerie smelling like an old motorbike. Flowers and warning, or pleading needed. If the wash has taken place, nose the washing machine.
