  1. Hi all as kits for a Hog are no longer available, I was looking at the plan for the DB 40 size engine model. Has anyone out there built one, or experience of the model. The great man knew his stuff, so I was thinking of giving it a bash. But I need some idea of what I am taking on. thank Tom
  2. To conclude this thread, my Jodel is no more. after fighting with it over several flights it has gone to the great hanger in the sky, or in fact into a black sack for disposal. I don’t say this about many models but I’m not sorry to see it go. I hope I have better luck with the DB Sports version that was delivered this morning…….
  3. If the truth is known it’s been a pain in the ????. The Drawing is not the best, with some formers out of centre, and no available canopy don’t help. The guy who designed it made his own canopy, clever bugger is all I can say. I have put servo’s in the wings, as the bellcrank didn’t look that clever. I have a feeling not many were ever built from the plan, I haven’t seen another in our area. I wouldn’t build another, too much hassle. I have managed to buy a DB Sports built frame from EBay, which is years old, so that’s my winter project, which I expect will be a total strip down. But I have one so that’s a start, just hope DB has enough wood for spares.
  4. Easy when you know how….. I have had to use a film as no canopy was available.
  5. I have loaded pictures but the pictures are upside down, no idea how to revolve them round. Tom
  6. I thought I would update you all on the subject, but after the last rebuild, and just looking at my Jodel for a while I took it down the field this morning, and with much joy it flew. im a very happy bunny at the moment. Several circuits and down. some minor work to do, engine settings etc. But after trimming it out I’m happy.
  7. Thinking back to my learning days with a High Boy and Low Boy (how I wish for one now) they both had the fuselage, along with other bits made from light ply, in fact it was only the tail that was made from balsa, which I notice lite ply appears to be far cheaper than balsa. So there are other options available for us to continue building, as that book suggests, its just convincing ourselves to change.
  8. Yes that’s the guy. I have built all of his Cat series. Some several times, like this one. This time I’m making it from my large box of odds and sods left over from other projects. so far I have only bought 4 x 1/16 sheets to do the wings. I have joined a few half sheets together, but I’m getting there. Only the rudder to make.
  9. Thank you Steve, I’m building an old Cat 25 by Henry Wilks at the moment. So I know what’s next. just need to arrange the 2nd mortgage so I can buy the wood. thanks again. Tom
  10. Thank you Steve, I’m building an old Cat 25 by Henry Gilks at the moment. So I know what’s next. just need to arrange the 2nd mortgage so I can buy the wood. thanks again. Tom
  11. I also have the plan, but I have an issue with the wing ribs. I cannot see the sandwich method working on this model. I have cut the template’s and that’s it. If only they had all the rids in profile on the drawing. The Fuselage formers are all cut and laying about somewhere, and that’s as far as I have got.
  12. Hi guys, thank you for your support. I have several models to fly, both ic and electric. Acro Wot, Ballerina, Super Sporster 40, easy street…. im not short of models. l bought a Jodel years ago, and you know what’s it’s like, someone fancy’s your plane and offers you a price and you let it go. Worst days work I ever did. I have bought 2 on eBay, both electric, but they never flew like the IC model. So off they went, so just as Covid hit I thought I may just as well buy a new one and build it as I want. Well the rest is history.
  13. Just thought I would add an update ref this topic. the model I was finishing off, in the pictures, I managed to complete. I was quite pleased with my efforts. That was September last year. So on the maiden flight, every fear of flying again after Covid came and haunted me. Although I had been flying several times it didn’t , and still doesn’t feel as NORMAL. the model took off as expected, but after being approx 5 feet off the ground it decided it wanted to be back on the ground. So pilot error took over. Needless to say it went home in the infamous Tesco bag. I did feel like jumping on it and finishing it off, but at my age although the rage was there, the effort was not. So that was last October, so now in March I am now half way through rebuilding it. I have looked at the model on Sarik, but I can’t find any reviews, so I don’t know. I have contacted DB sports, and the poor bugger there has the same issues as every manufacturer worldwide, mainly no wood. So he has no idea when the Jodel will be produced again. I rang Sussex Model regarding an Astro Hog, their answer was that that model has been on back order with Sig for over 2 years. They ring every week to get a status report, and again no wood is stopping any export sales. So they have no idea if, or when, they will see this kit again. My thoughts being that at my age, will I ever see any of these much loved kits again.
  14. When I was still at school, 1962 ish, control line was the only method of flying. I had a friend called Kenny, who was a far better builder than me. I used to go around his house and watch him build or play with his latest model, while telling me what I had done wrong on mine. He decided to buy a KK Marquis, lovely kit. Anyway he really got stuck into the build, and every visit I saw this model looking as good as it does on the tin. My last visit he was covering with tissue, and was going to dope ASAP. It all ended in disaster when his mum, fed up with the smell, put it in front of the fire to hurry up the drying process. He still has tears in his eyes on the Monday morning telling me all about it. I never did see a Marquis fly.
  15. Hi JD8 some guy has just put a NIB plastic plane on BMFA classified. A trainer of some kind, you never know????
  16. Hi Nick well I have been out playing with it this morning. I have tried T cut, Jif, and WD40, so now the plane is clean but the discolouration is still there. a Jupiter came with this model, and yes that plastic had started to crack, luckily a friend took it off my hands so I will see what he decided to do with it. As I said the Cessna looks like it was a favourite model, but a few years hanging up in a shed, after the guy packed up, followed by lockdown, hasn’t helped the material.
  17. Thanks guys Well I’ll give them all ago, the plane looks OK on YouTube. Tom
  18. Hi All I have bought an ex club members collection of model aircraft bits. One of the aircraft I have bought is a TT Cessna, which looks like it has been a favourite, but the plastic is now a very dirty looking brown colour, no doubt from hanging in the shed for so long. Any idea’s on how to clean it back to the white it was when originally assembled. thanks Tom
  19. I also fly mainly IC and do prefer them to electric. I’m building IC models at the moment, so for me there needs to be future for our smelly engines. My electric is also 3s 2200 size, which is fine when someone is there to hand launch the models. if I’m on my own, then I take my IC as it’s far easier. I admit I no longer buy contest 10 fuel, as that has hit top dollar to buy. over lockdown most items have become difficult to obtain, along with some silly prices being asked. One comment I read was that someone said they would go back to fishing, well my other love is fishing and believe me, that hobby is in exactly the same state. Bait has gone up, with a shortage or rods, reels and all tackle. Suppliers used to have a vast choice of items to pick from, but not today. You buy what they have. Again we hope this is just a short term blip because of COVID, but only time will tell.
  20. I went out last week. I thought I was novice as I took off. I had 6 flights, and only broke 1 prop. Which thinking back I was lucky, the other guy at the field wrote off a very expensive model. So now I have the old trainer I was teaching my grandson to fly on, ready for my next outing. Best to get back into it Slowly. I took my ballerina up for my first flight, in the past I always said it was under powered and slow, on day one, to me, it went like a jet. so much for not flying for 17 months. Flying My Wot 4 seems to be several weeks away.
  21. Hi Guys just ordered one from Steve Webb Models. thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. Tom
  22. Hi everyone I have an Irvine 53 with no exhaust manifold. Stock seems to be low of a replacement. Does anyone have any idea what other make it could fit to this engine. thanks all.
  23. I see DB Sports have added a note to the web site saying you can order from 8 February.
  24. On this not very good day, weather wise, I am slowly trying to build indoors as it’s too cold in my garage. But although I’m having ago, I started reading building blogs on here, in between the glue taking hold. That was great until I realised that on some of the pictures the guy building had a mountain of wood to play with. ( Which I haven’t) This then got the mind going into overdrive with the feeling of exactly what Covid has done, by giving me the feeling of what I have had taken away from me. Funny thing the brain, especially at my age.
