  1. So why have dozens of BMFA members been scammed this morning? https://www.facebook.com/share/p/gTPhWEvJkrExxia4/?
  2. No idea, people are trying to work what the link is..
  3. No, nothing to do with that..
  4. I had my debit card scammed this morning, a few pence to a company called 'Lightwatch'. It's now cropped up on the BMFA Facebook group, and dozens of other BMFA members have had the same issue today. Anyone here?
  5. So it would have been OK if it had been a Wot4...?
  6. That fencing (or 8' high netting) is usually used at German shows, I think it should be used here too.
  7. Err... No they didn't. It's simply Sarik passing on the fact that a new publisher (Radio Control Publishing Ltd, which has nothing to do with Sarik) has taken over the rights to RCJI and RCSI. Colin and Marco have are doing this on their own under a new Anglo/Italian company.
  8. The new magazine has nothing to do with Sarik, they are simply helping to promote it - nothing more.
  9. Posted by Gary Murphy 1 on 28/01/2021 16:19:29: Who is after a free lunch? A "non" Canon is £19 a Canon is £25, how is £19 a free lunch? When Tesco as them is stock they print to me just like Canon BUT I am printing "normal" home stuff NOT high quality photo`s. If I want to run unbranded ink in my printer I paid for I should be able to without the thing making it hard for me. I don't have to own brand oil in my car, if I put Halfords oil in my Bentley it wont tell me its wrong or cheap. Printer ink is a con full stop. If their ink was so good and the so called "cheap free meal ones" rubbish no one would buy the unbranded BUT they DO because most people who don't need photo quality etc , see no difference. You're missing the point. Yes you can put any oil you like in your Ford or your Bently, that's your perogative. But if you do, Ford or Bentley will void your warranty if it isn't the exact brand and type stipulated in the manuals - just as a printer manufacturer will when they find cheap ink in your printer... The real point that people forget is that for years printer manufacturers have been in a race to the bottom to keep their printer costs down, then make the profits on the ink. They protect this with chips to detect non-OEM ink. And who can blame them? Perhaps youd rather pay £500 for the printer and get the ink cheap?
  10. Slightly ammused to see that as usual people want something for nothing. Does it occur to anyone that the 'cheap' aftermarket print cartridges are cheap for a reason? Yes, printer OEMs charge more for their chipped cartridges, and yes, they want to make a profit. Part of their problem is that people buy the printer, stick cheapo cartridges in it then expect the OEM to sort out any issues under warranty caused by bad ink. Hence the chips. In my experience some cheap cartridges can work OK, but the majority cause more problems than they solve, are usualy actually contain half the ink than a real one has, then cost more money in the long run. No such thing as a free lunch...
  11. Posted by Ray Wood 4 on 10/01/2021 10:39:12: Hi All, Just a thought, Varifocals are great for everyday, driving, flying, modelling etc, but I'm on the screen all day for work and cheaper readers are better ! as with Varifocals you will find yourself tipping your head back and looking down your nose to focus on the screen Regards Ray I thought that, until I got top range varifocals. You don't end up tilting your head at all, your eyes and brain adapt. Within a week, the readers went in the bin...
  12. Posted by Andy Stephenson on 18/12/2020 12:46:21: I hope the BMFA get some income from distributing this catalogue but as far as I'm concerned it can go straight into the recycle bin. All that glitz has to be paid for somehow and is reflected in the prices. What a thoroughly miserable post. You do realise that Logic/Horizon will have PAID the BMFA for the distribution of the catalogue, thus helping to reduce your BMFA subs? It's called 'advertising', without which we'd have no hobby at all...
  13. Sorry, but if you have any idea how the mobile phone network actually works then you would know that this is completely impossible...
  14. Anyone who follows Key Publishings 'Flypast' forum will understand the dangers of this process. For those that don't know, Flypast magazine had a really popular forum for histoic aviation. They decided to change platforms, in the process of which they lost much of the previous posts, lost embedded links, lost pictures etc. It's killed that forum stone dead, the mass of information has been lost and Key must have taken a big hit in the wallet.   Proceed with great caution and tes, test, test... 15. Posted by Barrie Lever on 28/10/2020 19:03:54: I would also suggest poor leadership and editors. Gone are the days of the great editors like Tony Dowdswell on RCM&E, Ron Moulton as group editor, David Boddington, Martyn Cowley on Aeromodeller. This may come from the publishers, I don't know but can only guess. B. Corrrect, you're guessing...
  16. Posted by kevin b on 10/09/2020 20:09:24: As far as I am aware no other Vat registered company is allowed to charge the customer for collecting VAT. It is illegal. There again who is their biggest share holder ? Do other countries postal services do the same ? Note for future reference. If buying from the USA, buy through ebay and use their international shipping system. It is by far the cheapest (and often quickest) delivery service and they don't charge extra for processing the customs charges. They aren't charging for collecting the VAT, they're charging for taking the goods from the point of import to your house. The sender isn't paying it, why should they do it for nothing?
  17. Posted by Simon Chaddock on 29/08/2020 23:13:36: Gary The problem is that not all 3D printers use exactly the same version of STL or GCODE file so something that works perfectly for the originator may not work properly on another brand of printer or at least not without some fairly clever 'tweeking'. If the Thingiverse file states the specific 3D printer and preferably the major parameters to use there should be no problem. I made sure the files I down loaded were intended for exactly my type of printer. Of course the more expert you are in 3D printing the easier it is to solve any printing issues. Edited By Simon Chaddock on 29/08/2020 23:14:30 An STL file is an STL file, there's no 'versions'. It's a header with a list of triangles, nothing more. Gcode does come in different flavours and can cause problems...
  18. Posted by Richard Clark 2 on 24/06/2020 08:59:04: Jeti radios are nice. Would I buy one? No. Your choice. I don't care about the prices but: 1) Jeti radios only exist at all because of an EU 'Small countries development grant' so justified or not I have personal doubts about their continued existence. 2) There is no large and long established UK agent and those small agents that do exist are constantly changing. So among other problems with such agents, such as "who's the best small agent this week?" I have doubts about getting it fixed if it breaks. 3) Over the years all the several Jeti ESCs I have purchased have melted sooner or later even though used well within spec. So I have doubts about Jeti's technical competence and quality control. 4)The constant promotion of Jeti by a well-knows US agent on a well-known US forum indicates that a Jeti installation, can be as complicated and can involve as many boxes as an Apollo Moon Mission. What do I use? Multiplex, and have done so for year. But their quality, though 'adequate' is not as good as it used to be. Alternatives? Only one - The Futaba T18SZ. It is more than double the price of a Multiplex Evo, Royal, or Royal SX But other than OpenTx it is the only one that comes even remotely close to their functionality. As for OpenTx, I'm totally put off by all the dopey, ever self-promoting fanboyism over a mere machine. Edited By Richard Clark 2 on 24/06/2020 09:01:28 1) They've been around for 27 years and are doing well. So any company that gets a grant from their govenment should be avoided? 2) The dealer I use has been around for years and has superb customer service. I haven't seen a change in the Jeti dealer change at all. 3) Never ever had an issue with numerouns Jeti ESCs. 4) So what. You can make your installation as simple or complex as you or your model requires. Multiplex - Would never use having seen a model brought down by a nearby phone ringing... Futaba. No comment...
  19. Posted by Fun Flyer on 14/04/2020 20:42:54: David, while I accept that none of this is your fault, your defence of the situation in a previous post does put ypu somewhat in the firing line. I consider the approach of the publisher to be totally unacceptable. I have been a very long time reader of RCM&E and a subscriber for many years. As a suscriber outside the UK, just, I have come to accept late deliveries as the norm. However our postal service is still operating as normal, and its just a little hard to accept the decision to just stop posting the hard copies. RCM&E however late is always welcome. If the hard copies of the magazine stop then I see no reason to renew my subscription,. It may have escaped your notice 'Fun Flyer' but there are slightly more important things to worry about at the moment than magazines covering toy aeroplanes... I'm sure the publishers are doing what they can. YOUR postal service might be working but many around the world aren't. There's huge disruption in the UK. Threatening to walk away from your subscription at a time like this speaks volumes...
  20. Posted by Bruce Collinson on 07/04/2020 19:06:44: Most competent contents policies will provide adequate cover for recreational items taken out of the insured premises for ... recreation. They may end up being specified items but bluntly if you fly turbines with Yeti radio it’s unlikely to be a big ticket item. Liability; £25M; don’t hit an F35! Loss of aircraft; it’s possible to insure almost anything but it would end up like pluvium insurance for fetes and galas (rainfall); the premium would be more than the profits/second hand value of aircraft. Like most national organisations with bulk buying power, BMFA gives outstandingly good value for PL cover and if Government really used joined-up thinking it would ditch all the registration bureaucracy and make BMFA membership mandatory. Then everyone would be covered. You can’t buy shotgun cartridges without producing a valid SG Certificate; maybe society ought to discourage sales of 30cc petrol engines and planes to uninsured novices. Just saying. BTC What evidence do you have that this is happening and is a problem?
  21. Posted by Mike T on 07/04/2020 17:13:09: I might pursue with the BMFA the possibility of getting their (our!) insurers to provide a brokerage service for this type of insurance. Edited By Mike T on 07/04/2020 17:19:07 They used to provide separate polices for covering models at home. It fizzled out a couple of years ago, and the last I heard they weren't going to provide again...
  22. I worked on some prop designs in a previous life. I'd need to get my notes out, but I seem to remember that the inner 15% of the radius did nothing at all, the critical area was something like 60% to 90% radius.
  23. I posted a very simple post, politely asking two questions, and making a simple comment about BT's models. I had read evey post on this thread, YOU introduced the Fokker model, someone else mentioned the BT models. YOU then rammed YOUR opinion down everyones throat. Like I said, re-read your own posts occasionally...
