Horizon's UK office has closed. Radios have to go to Gemany now for service. Edited By Guvnor on 16/03/2017 12:04:54

The reason for dual antennas and satelittes has absolutely nothing to do with 'marketing gimmicks'. RF is a black art at the best of times, but consulting the marketing department won't really have crossed the minds of the average radio designer... Edited By Guvnor on 12/03/2017 16:00:48

If Futaba had sold as many transmitters as Spektrum, (rumour has it that Spek sales are 20x that of Futaba) would there be as many problems with Futaba...??

Posted by Bill_B on 05/03/2017 13:48:57: My view is that a manufacturer who relies on satellite receivers can't be too sure about the reliability of the radio link in the first place! My view is that you have no understanding of RF, diversity and it's advantages. I suggest you ask yourself why the top end radios such as Jeti and the late Weatronic use optional satellites. It's got nothing to do with reliability...

Posted by Cuban8 on 21/02/2017 09:51:44: Merely out of idle curiosity, I Googled RCM&E's circulation figure and what came back from the on-line media package was a figure of around 38000 (2015). I was surprised at that as I thought the number would be significantly lower. I think you'll find that's the figure for the YEAR. Not a month! Edited By Guvnor on 21/02/2017 21:52:26 -
It;s over. Hrizon UK shuts end of March, all staff going.

"All the product websites are still up and trading" Isnt that illeagl if theyve gone under?

My Rotorworld din't arrive earlier this month. Just been told the publiher has gone bust (ADE?), which means Rotorworld and Aeromodller and Scale Models have gone.

" this is infact very very very very very common....." Really? In your opinion...
-
"Even more so as you said failsafe didn't kick in" Or they didn't bother to set it up...
-
"can you prove they sell 15 times more mr guvnor... " Yes, but not on a public forum...
-
"yet another psmm with here head in a bucket of sand " If you wrote in English the rest of the forum could understand your posts... "do you work for horizon" No. Just a satisfied user with several sets. The percentage 'gem' is a fact, Spektrum are thought to sell 15 times more radios than Futaba in the UK, so it's inevitable that there just might be 15 times more failures. Fortunately there are some on this forum who can see straight through most of the cr@p written by by people who either can't fly properly or can't install a radio properly.
-
I repeat: "So you can gurantee that every failure you have seen was the Tx or Rx? No dodgy batteries, installations etc?" You obviusly have an anti-Spektrum agenda. Care to come clean on why??
-
Strange, at the two fields I fly at, (12 years) I have NEVER seen a Spektrum Tx failure. So you can gurantee that every failure you have seen was the Tx or Rx? No dodgy batteries, installations etc?
-
So what sort of interference only picks on 4x different Spektrum transmitters. Something really doesn't add up here. You started this thread with a complaint about your own model digging a hole, so that'll be five at the same field. Sorry, but I think there may be an agenda here...
-
So 4 flyers with 4 transmitters had 4 radio failures at one club in one weekend? I'd sy there's some external interference here, or is everyone blindly blaming Spektrum??

Disappointing Long Marston Show

"The first 400 houses have been approved, which means the rest will go through of course, as soon as the correct palms have been greased in SDC." There are supposedly issues with contamination, Might hold things up a bit -

"I wonder how many more shows they'll fit in at LM before the 3,500 houses go up?" Could be a while. There are rumours of unhappy developers. "I almost get the feeling that the organisers were selective in their acceptance of pilots" It seems the organisers may have been lucky to get the ones they did. -

On the website there's a list of traders: **LINK** Except it isn't, it's a list of the 2015 traders... It says so in very small writing at the top of the page. "The following traders supported us at LM2015 and all are expected to return in 2016" I'd call this a con... -

Agreed - very poor, lots of traders dropped out, very few interesting models. Very poor organisation too, seemed a bit of a shambles all round... -
My god these arguments are pathetic. This is a hobby about flying model aeroplanes... Go out and get on with it...!

Many of the posts here are missing the point. Banning, licensing and rules are all very nice, but if you are stupid enough to fly on Heathrow's approach, no amount of new rules or bans will stop them being stupid. Banning the 'sale of UAVs' is a complete waste of time, when you can import from any country on the planet. Who's going to get them all to agree? What about those who build there own from parts? Do we ban brushless motors? Ban Arduinos and Wii gyros?? (MultiWii) The probable answer is to have severe penalties for anyone found flying in stupid places, reported on the front pages of the tabloids. Perhaps then the message might get through...

Posted by Simon Chaddock on 24/12/2012 19:10:19: Just watched it on I player too. I have to say it left me rather cold. For what the programme must have cost too make (how many helicopter hours at £xxx per hour plus £xxxx/hour for the film crew) I felt the result was rather tame. I'm curious - what would you have done then...?
