  1. robin, thanks for that, what l am not sure of is whether the transfer ports are actually open to the crankcase as the cylinders are from a single cylinder engine, but,as l say,l cant see someone putting so much work in to the project with out having addressed that question,my camera should be fixed soon so l will post some pics, plus l plan to take the cylinders off for a look see at the internals
  2. robin, that does sound very similar,my concern is the fuel mix transfer to the combustion chamber from the crankcase, the crrc 50 singles have the carb mounted direct to the cylinder,so l cant quite see how the fuel mix can transfer from the c/case to the transfer port and thence to the combustion chamber....l plan on doing a partial strip down for inspection,so hopefully all will be revealed,if it runs as good as it looks then l will be a very happy bunny
  3. very interesting thread this,l too have just taken possession of a project engine from ebay….cameras on the blink, but will post some pics asap---this engine is a petrol twin based around a pair of cylinders from crrc 50 size engines, the crankcase has been machined from billet alloy, and the standard of machining looks really good, the inlet ports have been blanked of with custom made plates, and a walbro carb sits on a machined in mount.....l am assuming that the internals I e crankshaft are custom madembut l suspect that the conrods and pistons will be from the original engines......the only markings on the engine are on the rear of the crankcase, where the letters"ftl" appear,it is a big chunk of engine, anyone know anything about it??,its a professional job, done by someone with a fair bit of knowledge, hopefully l can get it to run,but something is nagging at me about it,cant put my finger on it though,l am not really an engine man,but have dabbled in model engineering, any info will be most welcome.
  4. thanks for the replies guys, its not stripped gears though,l think something has burned out in the electronics, got a definite burnt smell, probably cost more to fix than a new servo, shame really, its a hitec retract servo,oh well, time to give steve webb a ring!!,cheers, jack.
  5. anyone know where l can get servos repaired/overhauled???

    rb-20

I will open mine up again and get a few pics,l imagine l am just being dense, but in case l am not,l would like to find out the reason

    rb-20

hi frank,l havent used these plugs before, but as far as l can see two pins out of each set of three are definitely solder bridged, its been done deliberately rather than by accident, which suggests to me that there is a reason for it,but for the life of me l cant see what it is, all the best, jack.

    rb-20

Hi all, just a quickheads up on frskys rb-20....l got mine from T9 Hobby sport,it turns out that the unit is supplied with a couple of battery plugs,so theres no need to buy any like l did, however there is only one ext lead supplied,a bit weird that,as you need four to connect it up to your two rx,s….as l am the curious type l also took the back off to have a look at the back of the battery plug sockets, each socket is a multiplex type but only uses the + and - terminals..the other terminals are however bridged together with solder but are not actually connected to anything,l have no idea why this is done, seems like a pointless operation to me!!
  9. just a quick update on my u/c post,my gear and doors are now cycling up and down nicely, thanks to all for the help and advice!!!!
  10. l would like to use a set of blue tooth wireless earphones with my qx7 to monitor the vario signal, can anyone suggest a suitable transmitter to plug into the earphone jack?,there are a great many on fleabay but l am not very clear on the compatability side of things,l realize that plugging in a set of headphones is the simplest way to go,but l would prefer to avoid having a cable hanging around, cheers, jack.
  11. ok thanks guys,l am very new to this programming lark,to be honest it worries me more than a little, but you make it seem fairly straightforward, barry,l am using a hitec servo l was gifted, speed seems about right,l was concened about the weight of the wheel/leg assembly but it seems to cope just fine, running on 6 volts,l plan on using an S M services aux battery system l have, will post the results soon, all the best, jack.
  12. Hi all, does anyone know how to operate the gear doors from the gear switch on the qx7?,what l want to happen is:- doors open followed by gear down-gear up followed by doors close the gear will be on one channel and the doors on another, these will need to be mixed together with a 1-2 second delay to avoid the gear/doors conflicting with each other,l don't need the doors to close after gear extension-its on a scale glider-,l am very new to Taranis and programming,so hopefully someone out there can help,l am using the two position switch on the top left of the Tx as my gear switch, many thanks, jack.
  13. thanks for the replies guys, think the e205 fits the bill,or near enough
  14. does anyone know what the wing section is on the chris foss phase 6?,l cant seem to be able to identify it despite trolling through the database in my profili programme, thanks all, jack.
  15. thanks for that percy,l have just got hold of a set of phase 6 wings and want to build a fuz for them,l was thinking that l could glean enough info from the build instructions to draw up a fuz, though,if anyone has a 3 view layout drawing l can work from that, would probably be easier!,or maybe someone has a spare fuz lying around?,failing that,l suppose l can measure up my sons middle phase and draw it up to suit the phase 6 wings......frankenstiens got nowt on me,herh!!!
  16. Hi all, just wondering if anyone has a copy of the construction notes/plan for the chris foss phase 6 they could copy for me?,all costs met of course!,tyhanks guys.
  17. I think the main point here is that these new laws/rules are aimed at the multi copter side of our hobby, the fact that joe public et al see all model aircraft as drones is an unfortunate side effect....the fact that a lot of multi copters can be programmed to fly a "mission" autonomously, out of sight of its operator is really the main problem,l don't know of any model aircraft that currently can do this, though l accept that it is possible, most of us fly aircraft models that need to stay in visual range of its pilot,or end up as a hole in the ground!!,so my point is that owners/operators of multi copters capable of autonomous operation should be required to register etc,but extending this to other aircraft is definitely O T T, l build and fly scale gliders at 1/4 and 1/3 scale,a 400ft restriction is just not logical or acceptable, chances are the glider/tug combo will be at or near 400ft and still on tow!!,l will pause here to accept the screams of hate from multi copter pilots!!!...jack.
  18. Hi Tarnish, yes l have googled every combo l can think of,l can find various pics, but no tech info,l am sure that a set of the build instructions must still exist somewhere, granted there wasn't much to them but,the details l need would be there, models of this era,at least in my eyes, are infinitely preferable to the modernday foamies,-cant bear that squeaky noise foam makes!!!-,although the moulds for fuz,s,will no longer exist,a built up fuz is not out of order...that will stir up the foam afficionadoes l bet!.
  19. anyone got the specs on the old solent sailplanes mini racer??..jack.
  20. l too have middle phase bought off fleabay, this is to be used to teach my son to fly, following which l will put together an aileron wing for it.....l fully agree with mg wing servos, also skinning with glass and epoxy will be of benefit, the design is plenty strong enough, build as per and you shouldnt have any probs...jack
  21. New Years greetings to all!!,offerings to the weather gods are now to be deemed necessary.....now,l have just become the proud owner of an untouched solent sailplanes mini racer fus and am in need of--ideally--,a copy of the plan/build instructions, failing that,if anyone still has one of these, any chance you could run a tape measure over it??,l know it should be 60" span, but cant remember any more than that, any help/info would be of great help.......cant find much on line, but am hoping steve at cherbourg model express might be able to help, but thought l would put the word out a bit wider, thanks, jack.
  22. Ok David,l have replied to your pm,l am know looking into a suitable subject for 100" build,l intend to keep it simple for a variety of reasons, not least of which is l will need to fit it in around my scale projects and find bench room,l will post my choice once l have decided on a subject,l will also post details of where to obtain the plans.....this will be a plan build, not a kit,but hopefully some of you,as per Davids suggestion, will decide to build along,l will be happy to offer help/advice to any newcomers via this forum,and/or PM,more to follow!!!
  23. Ok,l seem to have started something here...l hope!.....having read all the posts l find myself to be largely in agreement with everyone,l see nothing wrong with the "THEME"idea, thats an idea worth pursuing,l appreciate that a lot of people cant access slopes for a variety of reasons, however,if the theme were to be based on 100" gliders,it would not only open up the choice of venues, but could generate a slope based meet AND a flat field meet, thus giving the widest range to the possible choices of model,in addition, newcomers to the sport would find the outlay for a model to be considerably less than for a power model...no leccy motors/batteries to buy,or for an I/c model, fuel starter, props, plugs et al.....l am sure most glider guiders have either a winch or bungee they would be willing to let a newcomer use,l think we could have an opportunity here guys,to get a new venture going,l myself don't have the organisational ability to do it,but would support anyone who does!!,at the least we have an interesting discussion underway!!......jack.
  24. I fear you may well be right martin, come on guys, lets put it to the test, lets have a straw poll to gauge the interest-if any-in a glider mass build,my apologies mister moderator if this breaks any rules!!,but if people could just indicate any interest maybe, just maybe,we can get something going, though l am not holding out too much hope here....jack. P.S,my own suggestions are:- veron impala, veron big impala, chris foss middle phase Edited By JACK on 11/11/2017 09:07:45
  25. what are peoples thoughts on a yearly mass build aimed at the gliding fraternity??,this would give everyone the choice of one or the other.....unless you are a building colossus,in which case both!!!......l don't see any harm in proposing it in any event, maybe attach a limit of 100"span,scale or sport, slope or flat field, though flat field would probably be the best choice, winch or bungee launch, but run on the same lines as the existing mass build gatherings, its a thought to ponder anyway!!,jack.
