  1. Contractor... and its worth every penny!. A heavy cylinder mower has flattened the site, the moss has gone [rotary mowers spread it; cylinders pull it out] And when we get interrupted for a cut the whole site is done in 20 minutes to half an hour while we have a cuppa.... And it's probably better than this now... [this was take a while ago.] Edited By GrahamC on 08/03/2015 17:10:35
  2. Yes you are, and you are being deceived by social media. It is an out an out lie. What's so very disturbing is how ready we are to believe such claims without checking the facts. Perhaps the most helpful expose of this social media lie is here.
  3. I reckon Tim might be right. Rib count is right, tail looks right. Here   Edited By GrahamC on 03/03/2015 08:10:44
  4. ...And mixed with aliphatic resin and chopped up paper towel its quite good for filling those akward gaps you sometimes need to fill.... like the underneath of wing fillets behind the wing! You'll get it in Wickes, Wilkinsons, B&Q etc.... As has already been said, you will know you have the right stuff when the pot you pick up feels empty!
  5. If I've understood you correctly, I'm not sure there was anything wrong with the motor at all. Its that uncommon to see the 'bare' wires [which aren't bare at all] exiting the motor can, because they are the ends of the winds. The wires have not been cut to the core at all. You were told rightly that what appear to be bare wires are intact very effectively insulated, and if they weren't the motor wouldn't work! It probably is more normal for them to be covered by silicone insulation, but that is often only slid onto the wire and into the opening in the can.  As for 4max, it seems to me their unique selling point is the advice that they give which is excellent. The motors are very similar to those sold by other retailers, but many of those who offer similar products are not so forthcoming with advice about set ups.       Edited By GrahamC on 26/02/2015 22:12:07
  6. I5. This is a FUC-3 (click on the pic) and you'll need the crossover cable too. That's helpful, what's a crossover cable? Can't find that at T9. BTW, might it be helpful for a Mod to add a subtitle to this thread? I clicked idly on it, and worked out it was a Taranis issue. Might be helpful to others for it to be clearly identified in the Thread title? I'll have to check the X8R sat on my desk. Not sure if it has new firmware or not! I presume this doesn't affect the older D8 mode receivers? [I have quite a few of them.]
  7. The slot is cut... And she is ready to go. I decide I can't be bothered with arguing with them! Looking forwards to having a go with it.
  8. My mini DLG purchased in the blowout sale from HK arrived. Taking it all out of the packing I'm impressed by the quality and lightness of it. I've read of wrinkles, but there are none! And the newer version mayn't have the plywood tray but, it has emax servos installed. Very nice for about £65. However It can't be assembled. The post for the horizontal stab and the vertical stab are too close together. And... Any thought what should I do? I contacted HK but despite the photos and a long chat with the online customer services, they are saying I have to send the glider back with tracking and as cheaply as possible because its at my own expense. I have to say that's my first really negative experience of HK customer services.] I could cut a slot in the rear of the elevator. Can anyone see any unfortunate airflow effects? It would need to be about 4-5mm deep. That would be the easiest solution. I could cut the post in half and then reglue it, possibly adding weight in just the wrong place. Or do I talk to Paypal? Any thoughts?
  9. +1 for Halfords. My Mondeo Mk4 is a headlamp unit out job... which means some dismantling of the front grille etc. £7 a bulb and it took them nearly half an hour to do both. Money well spent. .... [gangster... they have spotty youths at the Ford main dealer too, but there they charge you £50 an hour plus for their time. The lad at Halfords changes a lot of bulbs!] I miss my krypton units on my Skoda Octavia L&K! Now they were headlamps!     Edited By GrahamC on 11/02/2015 09:34:32
  10. Yep it's cashing in! Expect to pay more for an item shipped from within the UK. You choice check out banggood on the net. It will be coming from China and you might get charged import duty. Btw which transmitter do you have with the v911? You might be able to use the one you have with a v912. Banggood will sell you airframe only.
  11. Swann Morten #5 handle and #11 blades David razor plane (love it!) Permagrit block (See how many tImes these have come up! ) rare stuff I use and find useful would include.... Lego blocks for making jigs and as mini squares; The bits from an old 35mhz aerial for boring holes in balsa. Great when you want cut outs with rounded edges. Good old fashioned razor blades.... I used to work in a drawing office and used to use them for erasing ink from tracing paper, now they are great for cutting stringers to length etc. A block of 2x2 timber drilled to hold bullet plugs when soldering. T pins! And variously shaped lumps of balsa with bits of good sandpaper glued in with pound shop contact adhesive.
  12. From the heading of the thread.... Logged on to say that it's hard to beat a v911... But then saw you were struggling with it. If it's right it will jump to to left a little when it takes off, and you will need to get it up out of ground effect. To try and fly it 6 inches off the floor is a mistake. I wonder if you know anyone who could try it for you to check its ok. It is possible that there is a problem with yours of course.
  13. This is worth a look. Worth reading through the comments too.
  14. Don't have one, but do have a hell with a governor, and it looks like whats going on is that the ESC is looking at the throttle channel, not for a speed input but in order to know what mode of governed headspead it should attempt to manage. In other words unless the throttle stick is right back - which it needs to be for binding, the ESC will attempt to maintain a set headspead regardless of the blade position. Whereas a more conventional setup might use say 80% throttle at centre collective and 95% at 100% collective to maintain head speed when there is more drag on the blades, this ESC is doing all that for you, and it looks like a 25% throttle input tells the ESC to select the head speed for normal flying. If it were me, would try it as they recommend. Looks like the the ESC is programmed to fly the hell right with that setting. The e-flight esc's that I have seen all have a very soft, soft start, so let it spool up before you attempt to lift off           Edited By GrahamC on 05/02/2015 12:16:35
  15.   Right... just to clarify. I am in no way suggesting that HK operates outside the law. I'm not accusing them of wrong doing or deceit at all. I'm also not suggesting that they don't pay any tax. But I am suggesting that they are not subject to the same taxation rules as an LMS turning over more than £81K a year. And that's OK... but no wonder the LMS is more expensive. Wonderful though they are... HK is not a UK retail organisation. You cannot pay them in pounds Sterling no matter which warehouse you order from, and you do business not with a UK wing of the company, but with "Hextronic Ltd" which is registered in Hong Kong. Any transaction you make with them simply isn't treated the same as any transaction you make with my LMS. Ever wondered why HK turn up with their big blue tent at the shows and then don't sell anything from it. It's just a show room. They won't sell you anything. Mind you if you go to the Rapid RC tent at the NATS you can buy most of the catalog. Its about 20% more expensive than HK though..... Hmmm Frank... cross posted.           Edited By GrahamC on 30/01/2015 13:28:51
  16.       Posted by john melia 1 on 29/01/2015 19:22:43: just been to hobbyking to buy their 30cc msx-r for £132 but unfortunately as usual its on backorder , so thought i'd have a look around and see if i could source one here , well i found the exact same model with exactly the same blurb at tjshobbies.co.uk but the price is £200 !!! **LINK** no wonder people complain about our model shops I'm a little surprised that no-one has pointed out that a major component of the difference in price is VAT. [I am assuming that the shop in question is VAT rated] but if that is the case then £40 of the difference is explained. You are not paying VAT when you buy from HK [Legally and above board] because you are not entering into a transaction in the UK. This annoys owners of LMS's no end [as you might expect] The price quoted in the link is a more realistic guide to what it costs to see the item through UK retail and pay VAT. Same goes for Rapid RC. Are they selling HK stuff? Yep. Are they charging more Yep. Why? because they are a UK retailer and they have to pay VAT! I love Hobbyking... but lets be straight about how they are able to be so much cheaper. 1] Volume 2] You are doing business abroad. Oh... and as I understand it you could be charged import duty for a purchase from the UK warehouse.... I doesn't tend to happen..... Yet! Edited By GrahamC on 30/01/2015 10:22:23
  17. Good call. You will find that anything you get from Maplin [and you will be able to get something very similar] will have a metric thread for the collet, and the Horizon ones are imperial as its an American company. So I'd call them.
  18. I have seen a 2.4 Spektrum model on the ground 'glitch' when another Spektrum radio was switched on. My wot 4 was sat in the model restraint, and someone else switched on a DX6i nearby and one aileron servo glitched to full deflection and then everything returned to normal. My conclusion would be that although it's rare is seems possible for a Spektrum receiver to interpret somethig that's not a signal command as a signal command. I've never seen it since, and have now moved to another protocol. As has been pointed out, pure loss of signal should be ruled out as the behaviour of the airframe wasn't what would be expected from a failsafe. one other thought... Does the model ever flutter or offset the servos when the power comes on and as the receiver initialises. If it does maybe that's the issue here. Power to the receiver was lost momentarily and the uncommanded dive caused by offsetting occurring during initialisation? I doubt it was a stall. The model in question would be very unlikely to behave like that in a stall. We are talking about a big aerobaticsI'm with very low wing loading, not a warbird.      Edited By GrahamC on 04/01/2015 14:17:20
  19. From memory, you will need to plug the contoller in and let windows recognise it before you start clearview. It's quite good, but a little temperamental I found.
  20. Posted by ken anderson. on 16/12/2014 15:03:56: erfolg-by the time you get loads of replies on the forum-you wont know which to choose......one of the lads I know who is a mechanic...says it doesn't matter which one you go for...they all have their problems......its all down to you what you want and how much you want to pay...I was reading a current diesel mag and it was saying that expect to pay £500.00 to have a new battery fitted some of the current cars out there....as they need a complete (dealer) re-set ... and at least £1000.00+ for a replacement clutch... modern motoring/not..............but the dealers are happy... ken Anderson...... new car's dept. Edited By ken anderson. on 16/12/2014 15:20:18 Naa... what you do.... is get a 12v supply - and modellers should have lots of choices. Connect it to the terminals with crocodile clips. Undo the battery terminals, remove the old battery being careful not to disconnect the crocodile clips. Fit the the new battery and connect the terminals before disconnecting the secondary supply - and bobs your uncle. Ive got a MK4 modeo hatch. Last car was a Skoda Octavia estate. Lets just say the Germans are good at design and the Czechs are good at implementation and leave it there shall we!
  21. Yes don't risk it with Royal Mail. They have got very serious about it. Parcel force seem to say they will Carry nicads and Nimh but not Lipo. There are other companies who will ship them.
  22. It's not unheard of. We bought a cello on eBay and obviously had to collect it. The seller didn't want cash on collection, and preferred paypal. From a sellers point of view it ensures that you don't turn up and try and haggle the price down from your bid. You will have paypal protection, However if you are selling and accept paypal payment for an item that is collected, make sure that you get very good evidence that the item was collected. Make them sign a recent for the item, or even take their photo collecting it. If they claim to PayPal that they paid but never received the item, the seller will nearly always loose out unless they have good evidence that the item was collected.
  23. The fact that these things happen doesn't justify them. That people are from time to time irresponsible doesn't justify irresponsibility, and neither does it justify apathy. I'll report back if and when I get a reply.
