  1. Hi Richard, great model really nice. For the power train can you say what motor you are using and for the 10S how it is setup e.g. 2*5S in series. Many thanks
  2. Hi Janos, On my E-Pio and because I fly from grass strips I have changed the stock wheels for 3 inch sponge wheels, which has worked well on our strips. I have had many many flights now with my E-Pio and the stock landing gear has proved to be OK even with those sometimes very heavy arrivals - todate not had to change anything. Also my instructor advised me to lock the nose wheel rather than have a steerable one which too has proved to be successful. It also makes more room in the battery bay for larger LiPo and adjusting for CofG .
  3. Hi Janos, I have to agree with Dave too, my E-Pio runs on a EnErG 4220 900Kv motor with 4S 4500 and APC-E 12*6 prop. Gives good performance (600+ Watts) and duration (8+ mins). The motor will also step up to a 5S if needed.
  4. Hi Dave, I have built and currently fly the SLEC Funfly electric kit and so far it performs well and has completed quite a few flights now. The setup I use is with and a Giantshark E-Power GT2826/05 860KV brushless outrunner, JP EnErG Pro 60 SBEC, APC-E 12*6 prop and a Dynamic 4500mA 4S 30C LiPo (small and light for its capacity). The Funfly AUW is appx 4.5lbs and it draws appx 46A and 678 watts on my watt meter. I fly from a grass strip so I have increased the size of the wheels to 3ins. I do not need to take the wings off to change the LiPo as I have adopted the mechanism detailed on the CF website for converting the Wot4 to LiPo working. Hope this helps.
  5. Hi Brian, How do you load the LiPo. Do you have to remove the wing, or do you have some sort of hatch mechanism.
  6. Thanks Richard, I'm hoping to squeeze in a Dynamic 5S 4500mA 30C LiPo - about the smallest and lightest that I have come accross and using 70A esc too. Not sure yet if to follow the CFoss LiPo mounting method on the web site or try to mount the LiPo through the top hatch somehow. Top load is better as I don't need to keep inverting the model when changing the LiPo. As a new builder, though I'm not sure my skills are good enough yet to create a top hatch loading LiPo.
  7. Hi Andy, I know that this is an old thread but at the moment is really useful for me, as I have just started a Wot 4 MKIII build, e-conversion. So just finished the fuse sides but your tip for taping some glasspaper to a kitchen roll inner to give the right radius is great and worked well, thanks. So next for me is to tackle the motor mount. It looks like I am at 3 and 3/4 inches from F4 using an old ply box mount from a previous model and a KMS 4210/05 looking for a new home.
  8. Took my A cert with a Seagull E-Pioneer - still using it too, great model and it will also do a sort of controlled spin with a bit of encouragement
  9. For those flying on 6S LiPo, do you have video you can share - I am interested to see the performance of the 6S in flight.
  10. I have a DX6i and its used with an E-Pioneer - great Trainer. There is a lot of information in the forum on the E-Pio and I think at least 2 articles in past issues of RCM&E. The E-Pio will take you through an 'A' cert and beyond if that is your intention.
  11. Hi Jon, could you say what make and capacity of LiPo you are using, as I am interested in the 6s route too. Also did you go with the Quantum II motor recommendatioon or use another make. Many Thanks
  12. Hi Graeme - Wow thats a fantastic amount of information and many thanks, just what us leccy fans thrive on, well done, and I hope it will now mean even bigger models !! After your last post I half thought that a 6S would give a better performance, given its not a milion miles from an electric Acrowot conversion that is in this forum somewhere. 45a I think seems is just about right to keep things not to hot, while the OS is indeed a very nice bit of kit too. And so at the end of a flight, forget that glow power restarting/stalling engines on the flight line, tweaking needle jets, fuel in/out and messy cleaning - just plug in a charged battery and have another flight simple! Thanks again for the info.
  13. Hi Graeme - great update thanks, I guess too that you are going to check out the power train with a Wattmeter for Amps/Power-in, so that would be interesting to know too at some point. Any Idea of what the total weight and appx flight time you are aiming for.
  14. So just as an update to my Dynamic LiPo's - have two 4S4500's which have now done 45 and 40 flights, average discharge is down to about 20% and then charged at 1C. Provide about 8min of mixed flying on my FunFly, so not to hard a life and with no signs of puffing. However one of the LiPos now has one lead disconnected on the balance tap at the cell end, not the balance plug end, so I can only charge and not balance charge. The balance tap wires seem to be solid core rather than the stranded core I am more used to. Also has anyone got experience of the new Dynamic ESC yet, any comments etc.. would be welcome..
  15. Just wondered for those on electric power, do your motors require standoffs, or just bolt straight on. Thanks
  16. Has anybody posted a video of the electric version flying yet.
  17. OK so after my full power test - the drive train I am using is an Emax GT2826/05, EnErG Pro 60 SBEC, Dynamic 4S 4500 LiPo, 12*6 APCE prop. Using this setup on a full power static test gives input power of 663 Watts and 46A. The current AUW of the FunFly is 2084 gms and the CofG at 7 cm back from the leading edge. Thats the easy bit, now just got to set the servo travel and then the interesting bit the maiden flight !!
  18. Hi all - taken awhile but nearly there with the SLEC electric FunFly, constructed and covered, motor/esc/LiPo mounted but not yet fully run, hopefully later in week. But I have a question about the CofG, in so much as is there some advise as to where it should balance. The instructions state 25-30% back from leading edge but as I am not sure how to measure this, I was wondering if anybody has some practical experience e.g. X cms back from leading edge, which I can try. Also does the FunFly need to be inverted when measuring the CofG. Currently the AUW is about 2100 gms with a 4S 4500 LiPo. Many Thanks
  19. Hi Graeme - thanks for the update, have you decided on the LiPo voltage yet, also any motor/LiPo mounting pictures or further power train/prop info would be useful too. For my part I am just finishing an electric SLEC FunFly which should be ready in a couple of weeks, I'm a bit slow on the building though.
  20. Hi Tony - can you say what the power train and rough flight times are e.g. Motor/LiPo/ESC/Prop Thanks
  21. Hi Tony - is that engine mount something that you had to purchase separately.
  22. Were those fin and tail tips already shaped as part of the kit or did you have to cut out and then shape.
  23. Just wondered if you had considered the Dynamic range - 6S4500 (bit less on capacity) L=130 H=42 W=49 and weight is 601gms !!
  24. Hi Graeme, would you keep us advised of your progress - especially if you go down the electric route as I am interested in that too.
