  1. I used a 3s 2200 mAh lipo (see photo) because thats what I had, the motor is a 2200 kv I think, because thats what I had, but you could probably use a much smaller motor I only use about 2/3rds power for a steep climb.
  2. Oh and it might need some downthrust ,I put a packing piece behind the top of the mount.
  3. Easy, just saw off the nose block ,glue on a plywood "firewall" and screw on the motor mount. you may need to move the servos back under the wing to make room for the battery. Yes that is a very old Middlephase circa 1986 I think.
  4. Posted by David Davis on 05/10/2019 06:55:59: Are there any good shops in Somerset? I'll be staying there for a few days next week. There is the Hobby Hangar in Yeovil.
  5. I'm holding John Woodfield to blame for this ,all those glorious classic gliders he keeps posting up on youtube. I was rummaging about in the workshop and I found some TE and LE strip along with some rib stock and before I knew it, I had cut out 24 wing ribs and by the end of the day I had a nice set of wings. Now a wing is in want of a fuselage so I had to draw one and a tail, this is the result. Now the wait for a nice day to try it out.
  6. Is it an airbleed type carb? Try starting with the throttle open, trying to start with the throttle closed just chokes the engine and floods it.
  7. Reminds me of the time the club I was a member of, the commitee decided to introduce an "odds and evens" rule for 35 MHz radio. All power models would be on odd numbered frequencies and gliders on even, just like the Nats. This was because of the chance of co-channel interference (although there was no evidence to support this theory). All my radios were on even numbered channels,"You fly models costing hundreds of pounds so you can afford to buy a pair of crystals." was the argument used by all the commitee members who already were on odd numbered channels. Nevermind that 3 sets of crystals was getting towards fifty quid in those days and it never really answered the question of what happens when someone turns up with a glider. So off I go to the Digihanger to get some crystals, old Fred was laughing his socks off, he'd never sold so many sets of crystals,"They only do that at the Nats because they have power and glider flying going on at the same time!" he said. He had one set of odd crystals left for Futaba radios so I bought them. I went up to the field the following Sunday and found out that the Chairman of the club and a commitee member were on the the same frequency and they were hogging the peg, one would land and hand the peg over to the other without it going back on the peg board. I did get the feeling that I'd grown another head when I asked for a chance to fly.
  8. Apparently its been flying for 11 hours now, must be powered by nuclear fusion.
  9. I remember the first flight of the prototype, Brian had designed it to be an easy first step in to scale modelling.
  10. They thought of that too! People will think i'm a Tesla fanboi at this rate.
