  1. I've not joined in on a mass build project yet as it seems I always have something on the board needing attention. Winter time is build time and when the snow hits I'll be back in the workshop to finish the Hild-Marshonet that I started LAST winter. Other then that, the Skywriter would get my vote.
  2. Tim, thanks for the quick response. this ones next on the build board after summers over, I'll keep you posted. Steve
  3. So I read the build articles (several times) watched the video and bought the plans. Now I have a few questions. I did not see anywhere on how the lower wings are retained to keep them from coming out of the fuselage. What keeps them in place? This is going to be my second attempt using pull pull style rudder and elevator controls. With the asymmetric elevator horns, do the cables stay taught as they travel through their arc or do they go slack or tighten? which brings me to my next question. What did you come up with for control surface throws? My guess is that the rudder doesn't move very far. and lastly I'm going to assume that the model is balanced on the underneath side of the upper wing? I am currently starting to gather parts to build this one and am looking forward to it. By the time the temps drop and the snow flies I should have everything I need. Thanks for taking the time to model this one, it's way cool. Steve in MT
  4. So, I've read the articles, studied the plan sheet and watched the video, and it will be a next winter build. Alex deserves a pat on the back and a big "Atta boy" for his design. Here he has designed one of the most versatile models that I have yet to come across . Glow, electric, or non powered. With or without ailerons etcetera. It appears that he has tried to do his best to offer a glider that would appeal to most builders. I've never tossed a perfectly good model off of a cliff before so this one will get electric power. So many plans, so little time (sigh) Good job Alex
  5. Thanks for the answers and the kind words. I was eyeballing the Harlequin until I seen the Oodalally and may build it at a later date. For now I have to wait for warmer weather and the snow to go away to maiden the red tailed Oodalally. I'm also looking at Peter's Lady Samantha in the Traplet site as a "Must Build" Thanks again. Steve
  6. Peter, My Red Tailed Oodalally is ready for a maiden. I measured out from the fuslage 3/4in and made a balance mark at 2-7/8 (about 74mm) back from the leading edge of the wing. Does this sound about right? Mine came out to 3lb 12-1/4oz A.U.W. and is powered by a OS Max .25FX. Oh, and I built it with removable tail feathers, just because I could. Steve
  7. I need a little help here please. I have my Oodalally mostly built except the covering. At this point I like to do a preliminary balance test to see if I need to modify anything and about where I'll need to place the battery. All of the models that I have built before were constant chord wings and balanced on or near the main wing spar. Rib 3 on the Oodalally measures 3-3/8in from the leading edge to the center of the main spar and the CG on the plan sheet shows it needs to be 2-11/16in. I thought it odd that the balance point would be ahead of the main spar, but this being my first tapered wing build I figured that I better ask first before I continue. So, on a tapered wing, how far out from the fuselage do you need to support the wing to balance a model? Or more importantly, where on the Oodalally wing do I need to support it to give it a proper balance? Thank you. Steve
  8. Sorry guy's, my mind went blank after reading the words "Corbin Ace" and "Parnell Elf" Was there something else after that?
  9. O.K., looks like I was wrong about using the 90 degree bellcranks, I understand what your are trying to explain to me  and will readjust them as per plans, thanks for the responce. Steve Edited By Steve Terpstra on 04/01/2014 21:02:28
  10. Martin, Thanks for the quick reply. Your Ellipse is on my must build list, still waiting for the plan sheet. Steve
