  1. Thanks Nick I had missed that, although it still confuses me slightly that the e-mail's attached version supposedly expires Dec 2022 (but will have the wrong Insurer name as of 1st Jan?) versus the posted version expiring end Dec 2021. For completeness here's that 1st para cut and pasted: "Thank you for signing up to be a member of the BMFA. Your membership documents are attached to this email and can also be downloaded from your membership profile at https://bmfa.azolve.com. We will be changing insurer from 1st January 2022. The membership document attached to this email contains the correct insurer details up to 31st December 2021. An updated document will be available for you to download from your profile from 1st January 2022."
  2. My BMFA 2022 renewal letter (and Vectis card) arrived on Xmas eve. But there seems to be an error on the 'Confirmation of Cover' part - which says I'm covered "until 31 December 2021"? Is anyone else seeing this? Or am I missing something?
  3. @tigerman- like Nigel R I'd also be intrigued to hear about your cost breakdown experience for the Gripen from Motion RC. My own recent experience from a Republic or Ireland (EU) purchase (over the ~£145 threshold) was remarkably good. Prior to final delivery (with GLS, it's Parcelforce here) I only had to pay the 20% UK VAT and just one single "other" £2 fee. The subtracted Irish VAT rate was 23%, so in total I might even have made an overall saving! That said, I suspect my seller used a method which pre-paid most of the various carriage expenses.
  4. just realised I have confused DDP (delivery duty paid) with DPD in my post above - and was too late to edit!
  5. I just received this helpful reply when trying to purchase something (non modelling related) from Ireland. In this example (which is from a very small company) they are registering to pay the VAT themselves on the smaller orders - it looks like they are using Eur 150 as equating to £135. My understanding is that this £135 (or equivalent) is the value of the goods before any VAT is applied. The interesting bit to me was how DPD are providing some helpful options to retailers. That said, I have only just placed the order so am still waiting to see what I'll get stung for on delivery! "For Delivery and VAT. Orders LESS than €150: We charge the VAT. We ship these (Incoterm 18 - DDP, VAT Registration Scheme) so all freight, customs clearance costs, customs duties and taxes (VAT) are paid on our end. Orders GREATER than €150: We zero the VAT. The VAT is charged to you by the courier on arrival in the UK. We ship these (incoterm 30 - DDP, VAT Unpaid) so all freight, customs clearance costs, customs duties are paid on our end. Taxes (VAT) are paid on arrival in the UK on your end."
  6. The incompatibility issue is between the Lemon 'plus' model and the DM8 or DM9 spectrum module in a 3rd party Tx. See here, about 1/3 of the way down: **LINK** This caught me out a while back, but I can't remember what the servos actually did.
  7. What’s the thinking please on the separate rudder channels? Driving opposite directions for an air brake effect? This was where I saved my own 9th channel. Mine needs recovering due to sun damage in a poor storage location, but I have a feeling the lockdown might provide an opportunity. If this happens I’ll also be moving to the Taranis.

  12. Here's what I went for on mine in terms of mixers - this was on a FF9 - it would have all been so much easier / more flexible on a Taranis. (Unless described as 'always active' below the mixer was on a switch). Mixes Used: Ail Diff always active Elevator to Flap Ailevator (for twin elevator servos) always active Airbrake (crow using ailerons and flap) Rudder to Throttle (master) for taxying Throttle (master) to Throttle (slave) always active Throttle Safety Cut Out Flap to Elevator always active Rudder to Throttle (slave) for taxying Rudder to Throttle (master) for yaw aeros Rudder to Throttle (slave) for yaw aeros I think I was trying for a system where the rudder stick increased thrust on the outside engine in taxi mode, and decreased thrust on the inner engine during flight mode.. Mine is electric with 2 Lipos - I made the entire D section of the wing centre section removeable to accommodate them internally in the wing.
  13. I've just received the renewal e-mail from the BMFA. They must like me because I've actually received 25 copies (!) of exactly the same e-mail. Is anyone else getting this?
  14. Another thought prompted by Devcon - did you make the stick movements it needs to calibrate things immediately after the self check "chicken dance" thingy. I think the last I heard was that no throttle movemnent is required, and that it's finally powering off the Rx which saves the settings. Do this stick calibration with rates on full. 15. You didn't mention the gain on Ch 9 - is that also working ok?
  16. As discussed above, Motion RC is finally close to arriving in Europe - June I think - and based in the Netherlands. I just went to their normal US page and it gave me the option of the Euro site (https://www.motionrc.eu/) Twelve flights in and I'm still very happy with the Spitfire.
  17. Sorry not helpful - but recently a colleague of mine described the unwelcome manoeuvre as the 'Robin Reliant Roll' - I'd not heard that in an aviation context before, and was quite tickled at how perfectly it fits! (I'd guess any lowering of the cg would help, but I wouldn't expect that to be practicable).
  18. Here's a quote from the US importer, cut and pasted from another forum: "The Extra 300S and the Extra 330SC are two totally different airplanes entirely, the new 330SC was designed and built completely from the ground up by a different team that worked directly with Gernot Bruckmann to ensure that the quality, fit, finish, and flight envelope of the airplane were nothing but outstanding in every way. An airplane simply doesn't bear Gernot Bruckmann's name on it unless it meets all of these criteria. If you compare the two models side by side it's very apparent the 330SC is the better of the two. This is not to say that the Extra 300S is not a good airplane, because it is and it flies very well. It's just that the Extra 330SC is in a completely different class, it's like trying to compare a Lexus with a Ferrari. Both are excellent in their own regards, but there really isn't a comparison between the two." One notable difference is that the fuselage of the more expensive model has the internal wooden framework. I think the original price of the 330SC RR was much higher than the £245 I'm seeing now. There's also talk in the other forum that the 300 is discontinued? Regards, Neil.
  19. Pete I saw it post #1275 in the place below (which I suspect I haven't linked properly - sorry!). It's in their 'Electric Warbirds' topic area. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2607961-What-will-the-next-Flightline-RC-model-be/page85 On the same thread post #1274 sets out how MRC work with Flightline. When funds allow - and being very happy with what I've seen so far of the Spitty (quick damage check only) - I could be very tempted with the large A-10.
  20. I recently spotted this intriguing comment from one of the Motion RC guys on another forum. (Even from Reds the Spitty arrived in a box covered in Motion RC logos - my understanding is that MRC and Flightline / Freewing are really quite joined up). We care about Europe a lot. We ship anywhere in Europe now and you'll have many more options sometime in Feb or March of 2018.
  21. Pleased to say that mine arrived today (from Reds) - so hopefully things are now unblocking for all. I'm also happy to share your view Rocker that any delay was not the fault of those at the UK end of the chain.
