  1. Bizarre, unusual, and very nice. I seem to remember Peter that you talked about designing a Turbulent a few years ago. Did it ever happen? I like Turbulents!
  2. Posted by Peter Miller on 23/08/2016 21:05:17: Posted by Fun Flyer on 23/08/2016 19:41:34: Why does everyone want to build warbirds?? The Pilatus P-2 is not a warbird. IT is a trainer. Personally I chose it because it is an ideal shape for a model, I like the lines and shape and the huge variety of colour schemes. IT has a slab sided fuselage, a chin cowl to hide an engine, a nice simple cockpit canopy which is easy to make and doesn,t need complicated mouldings. OK, but YAKS and BF109S were mentioned. I'm really intrigued to know what I wouldn't have the nerve to build. (You could be right! )
  3. Thanks to all for the information and apologies for the slow reply. I had seen some information on the web but you guys have managed to pull it all together pretty well. While I'm leaning towards converting the Tx I'm still not convinced that its worth the trouble. I have been flying on 35mhz without any problems for more than thirty years but events of the past two months have brought this to a head. Two experienced flyers have lost models which went in without any warning and for no reason that was discernible afterwards. I've had three separate models, two electric and one IC take on a mind of their own for a few seconds before recovering. My three were at altitude so no harm was done. Percy, our field is miles away from garage doors or door bells but I do take the point that we don't know what else is out there! Ian, thanks for making it sound so easy.
  4. A question to all those who've been there and done that; is it possible or advisable to convert a Futaba T7CP Tx from 35mhz to 2.4ghz. I know that there's already a thread on converting a TC7P but I'm not sure if they're the same Tx. I ask because a few of us in our club who still fly on 35mhz have noticed unexplained, and unprecedented, glitching and mishaps recently and I for one am thinking of changing to 2.4 if I can easily convert my Tx.

The 1982 RCME says there are some modiifications to the plan like solid balsa tail and simplified fuselage construction which make it a Super Tauri which is still available from MyHobbyStores The original kit plan can be downloaded free here Taurus is a bigger tapered wing design by the same designer. Plan is here Edited By kc on 11/08/2016 18:05:14 They've had a good home for nearly forty years! You're welcome to them all if you pay the shipping.
  6. The Tauri was published in Aeromodeller in April 1964 and was updated and featured as the Super Tauri in RCM&E in March 1982. I was just preparing some old mags for recycling this afternoon and when I saw the Tauri on the cover I remembered this post. I can scan the article for you if you wish.
  7. The "Happy New Year 2016" message on their website doesn't inspire confidence!
  8. I know guys cut small discs from the tops of plastic containers, usually the clip on type, to make their own.
  9. I'd advise you to read this; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1556994 Its long but well worthwhile. The vendors mentioned are reliable and in my experience deliver a good service. I wasted money on a lot of ebay rubbish before I found this.   Edited By Fun Flyer on 25/06/2016 22:49:17

The editorial team must have a hard job trying to reflect the way the hobby is going, but I also found that there were just the odd article which interested me, which is why I cancelled my subscription. I feel treacherous in saying on this forum, but I now subscribe to RC Model World which, I feel, is more in tune with what I want from a magazine ie a bit more focus on the more traditional aspects of this hobby. I agree, and I am close to cancelling mine. Perhaps, I may check out RC Model World.. Horses for courses. To provide a balanced view from my side I also subscribe to RCMW and FLYRC (from the USA) and imho they're both inferior to RCME in style, content and editorial input. Having said that , RCMW having slipped back some way in the last few years has a new editor who is trying to get back up there and he is making some good decisions in support of that so I will continue to watch and compare... Edited By Jon Laughton on 13/06/2016 13:37:52 Edited By Jon Laughton on 13/06/2016 13:38:35 In my opinion, and that's all it is, the last issue of RCMW was very disappointing and losing Chris Golds was not a good editorial decision.
  11. And now this! /http://www.rte.ie/news/2016/0421/783341-drone-aer-lingus-paris/
  12. Posted by Phil Brooks on 20/04/2016 13:20:21: What we need to establish in the eyes of the media and the public is not the difference between "drones" i.e. in this context multi-rotors, and "proper" models, but the difference between the majority of responsible model flyers of whatever type of model and the irresponsible lunatic fringe. To put it another way, what counts is not WHAT they fly, but how they fly it. I don't care whether it's a MR, shockie, sports model or glider, if the person flying it is endangering other people he deserves to be brought to book. Edited By Phil Brooks on 20/04/2016 13:21:22 That's probably the most sensible comment I've read anywhere in this whole debate.
  13. Thanks for that guys. I've ordered some smaller props so we'll see how that goes. As regards "gliding in the flare" my Cutlass doesn't really do gliding!!
  14. Mine came out at 28oz and flies well with a 3S LiPo and an 8x6 prop. My only quibble is that it seems a bit hard on the prop which regularly breaks on landing. Has anyone else had this problem or found a solution?
  15. To my mind a low wing Super 60 is on a par with green plastic champagne glasses!
  16. I've been flying the same Super 60 for almost thirty years now. I've just replaced the fuz and wing a few times but the undercarriage and tail wheel are the same. I'm actually considering building a new wing for the current one with inset ailerons and flaps. Has anyone tried that?
  17. For me, flying the Super 60 is just what its all about! I always have one to hand. The plan for the aileron wing is here; **LINK**
  18. Guesstimating stick maybe, but the user looked far more impressive than someone tapping keys on a calculator.
  19. I still have the slide rule which came as a free gift with the May 1960 issue. Who could use one now? Free gifts are someting that the mags don't seem to do anymore.
  20. I would not go the cheapo route! I have a fine collection of non working cheapo key fob cameras most of which didn't survive the second charge. I suggest you take a look here **LINK** It has all the information you could possibly need and then some. I've found the products from the suppliers mentioned to be very reliable.
