  1. Posted by EarlyBird on 04/10/2020 21:15:45: Hmm I give up time for bed Two wings in two weeks is great progress. They look great. Now get them joined up and start working on the fuz.
  2. Posted by brokenenglish on 04/10/2020 07:50:03: Surely the motor mount shown above could be built up as a robust ply cube, maybe even enlarged as necessary, and used as a ballast box. Edited By brokenenglish on 04/10/2020 07:51:25 I'm not sure I could build a ply cube that would be robust enough. I could have hollowed out the existing one and filled it with ballast, but I only thought of that yesterday. Hindsight is wonderful!!
  3. You're making great progress. I didn't actually do anything to lighten the tail and just went with the design. Someone on here did suggest a built up tail but I thought that was too much work and could be too fragile. However it did mean that it took quite a bit of nose weight to balance the model. Currently there's 315gm fitted, most of it in the cowl. This is how I avoided moving F1 forward.
  4. Looking very good EB. When I joined the two wings together I was taken aback by the overall wingspan. I had built the fuselage first, I always do as it encourages me to build the wings to make it fly, and it looked out of proportion to the wing. Of course it wasn't.!!
  5. Looking very good EarlyBird. Have a good day's flying tomorrow. I was flying my RF4 again yesterday. Its quite lively in the air. I think I expected it to be more sedate.
  6. We need this Peter. We could all do with a bit of calming!!
  7. Very good. I found a strip of TE worked well to hold the bottom sheet.
  8. Posted by Fun Flyer on 25/09/2020 19:08:44: Posted by EarlyBird on 25/09/2020 18:57:08: I am now trying to work out how to cut and shape the leading edge for the bottom sheet. I've been in exactly that place! It's probably easier to actually do than to think about.
  9. Posted by EarlyBird on 25/09/2020 18:57:08: I am now trying to work out how to cut and shape the leading edge for the bottom sheet. That will be tomorrow after a good nights sleep, I hope. Cheers Steve   Edited By Fun Flyer on 25/09/2020 19:09:36
  10. At this pace of building you'll be flying it on Sunday!! What a tidy workspace.
  11. I'm looking at finishing mine in this scheme. There are enough red and white models in our club already and I have lots of blue covering!
  12. Well, today was the day! Headed out to the field early, 20degC. Wind gusting to 10kph. The RF4 took off after a short ground run without any problem. One of my more capable clubmates took the fist few llights, and we did some fine tuning of the throws which improved the handling even more. It is very impressive in the air. Thanks Peter.
  13. Go for it! Just watch the weight, especially at the tail. The nose is quite short. A short kit!! We expecxt to see completed wings by bed time!! I've just finished the outriggers. Not many excuses left!! Stay safe.
  14. Suddenly, just disconnecting the LiPo after a flight seems so easy!
  15. Posted by EarlyBird on 16/08/2020 19:40:55: After a lot of dithering on my part and a lot of encouragement on your part I have pressed the buy button. There is no going back now The short kit is ordered Which gives me a couple of weeks to clear the decks. Cheers Steve Good decision. Well done, go for it. Any more for the RF4?
  16. Hi EarlyBird. I'm just, slowly, finising a, very slow, build of Peter's RF4. You may have seen my build thread on here. Its not too complicated a build, mainly thanks I'd say to the skill of the designer. It's all pretty straightforward but there is quite a bit of work in building the wings. I chose not to take the SLEC route but that's just because I like cutting up bits of wood and sticking them to other bits of wood. Let us know how your build goes, at my workrate, real life keeps getting in the way, your RF4 may be flying first.
  17. Posted by Peter Miller on 29/07/2020 07:03:12: That sounds an awful lot easier than the way I did it!! Henry Ford said that lazy people were the best employees, they always found the easiest way to do things!!
  18. Posted by fly boy3 on 27/07/2020 21:15:47: Great job you have done on this model FF, fairings have always been the bane of my life. When you mentioned foam and filler could you expand on this please. Thanks Thanks FB3, but I think a lot of credit is due to the designer!! Regarding the fairings, being lazy, I glued a piece of polystyrene foam to the lower ply former then shaped it with a modeling knife and very fine grit paper. I wrapped the paper around a piece of plastic tube about the size of a broom handle to get the concave profile. Just a light layer of filler then to cover the imperfections.
  19. That's the most likely reason Peter. I did try to keep the tail light but, although they're sturdy and very well made, weightwise a 4-Max motor is no match for a lump of IC up front. I think I remember someone else on here converted the RF4 to electric and had to add a lot of weight to get the CG right.
  20. Well, everything's on board and its starting to look more like an RF4. However I think I may need to visit the local Church roof to get the CG right! BTW, as a matter of interest Rene Fournier will celebrate his 99th. birthday this year..

  22. This is just another example of what I've long believed. Although sufferers can have long periods of remission, there's no known cure for Aeromodelling. (Thankfully) Welcome back Gina.
  23. Just ordered one. If its good enough for Phil Green ......... I need something to fly in the garden before my thumbs seize up.
