  1. Ooo Hey, I have found it now, thanks.. just cut my first instrument out!! bazzin. Is there anything I can do when saving the item to enhance the quality or preserve high DPI? Thanks again
  2. Hi FF, thanks for the fast reply. Where is the snipping tool? it is built into windows? I'm on vista ! Thanks
  3. Hi all. I have a downloaded set of the cockpit dials from the RCME download page, it is in a PDF format. Can anyone tell me a way to extract just the instrument dails I want to use rather than printing a full sheet? I am wanting to print a few at one diameter and few at another after I have selected the ones I want for cockpit application. Or do any of your know a place where images of dails are available free for the same use I am trying to acheive, all ideas welcomed. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi there John, welcome.. I'm sure you will find the forum a smashing source of info, inspiration and humour! I bagged a DB barnstormer a few weeks back for £15.. it was a deceased sale from a member at the Hayes and District club, the chappie lived in Windsor with the old dialing code from the details inside.. she will be flying the Hayes and district badges up here in the North in the spring.. All the best..
  5. Why eye Ken.. Happy NY and 2016 to you too.. lets not hope the walk through duty free to Malta isnt a long one
  6. STN was always a good place to pass through and light and airey as you say, now you have the low cost carriers to thank for this situation! Period. As the airport makes very little from these type of carriers in terms of landing fees or parking charges etc Plus STN is now owned by Manchester Airport Group and they do not subsidise low cost operators the same as say LTN or SEN in the south east do.. they are looking for a return on the new investment since buying STN from BAA.. and this means the punter must be parted from his cash.. The low cost airlines were all smart enough (copying Ryanair) to get volume discounts for operating lots of flights and bringing the punters in. The BIGGEST problem all airports with low cost carriers now face is how do they make their money? They just wanted punters through the doors.. where they could SPEND! but these "punters" want to be through ASAP and off.. even business users do not want unecessary dwell times between check in and off chocks.. These airports are now forced to make us walk miles around duty free, coffee shops etc and it is this "foot fall" that needs to be parted from our cash for the airports to break even or possibly, survive! Lets face it, the boom in low cost travel is all about doing the travelling bit for less.. a weekend away or few days in Prague/Budapest/Palma etc etc is all about going THERE with your hard earned, NOT parting with it in rip off Britain on the airport car parking/extra luggage charges/duty free or Costa for £7.50 for a Cappucino and pastry... It is this very cash you want to be taking with you to your foreign destination to enjoy the break and seek real value for money... Check out the lack of seating too..!! That is a favourite introduced at the airports owned by Manchester Airport group over 7yrs ago; they removed most seating too keep the punters mobile and therefore more likely to SPEND!.. The low cost flights are fab if you take them for what they are and cut out any dwell time/spending in the airport.. it is rip off Britain after all... TOP TIP.. whilst you check in - ask if the aircraft operating YOUR flight is there or running to time.. make a point of finding out and do not proceed through passport control until that aircraft is on the ground.. once youre in duty free.. you are knackered; no chairs and high prices... and on return from your trip, always get picked up from the departures area.. its always lovely and quiet with traffic moving on ASAP.... making your pick up stressfree From a lifetime of "dragging my bag"..
  7. I'd say the 4 stroke 70 is a perfect combo on the Acrowot.. must have for any hangar.. delight to fly / own.. The kit built version naturally..
  8. I've just tried to catch up on this mass build thing and see exactly what it is you guys are going to the building. Reading these two pages I cant believe its ended up in squabbling of who started early or has built the most models over time.. Seriously..? and most of this typed on Christmas day.. Jeeeeze!! Goodwill to all men etc .. where did all that go? I'm not at all surprised Paul opted to build his when he had a clear bench and some time off work.. great way to spend your holidays... with a mince pie and wee nip of something warm at the building table.. Just what this time of year is for.. If you cant keep it light hearted and on topic .. JOG ON in search of a life! Happy modelling New Year too you all.. when it arrives..

Enjoy yourselves out there the Med lads... Sounds like a good plan is coming together there! I wouldnt utter one word of a modellers meet up to the other halves.. trust me.. Belated B'day wishes and have a good 2016 over there Victor, lets not be hearing how pleasent and sunny it is...
  10. I'm starting a scaled up build soon after having the plans enlarged to a size I prefer. I will be opting for the laser cut parts for the wing ribs, formers and any other bits I fancy including. I can only agree the time taken to accurately reproduce them off the plan is fine for a smaller model, however I'm at 85" with the enlarged version I have chosen and whilst I suspect the larger parts would be easier to handle when cutting / sanding to shape.. I rather just get on the with the build and have them ready to hand.. It wouldn't opt for a laser / CNC solution for a smaller model, say under 50".. I cant see the point! the parts count is lower and the parts easy enough to cut on the work bench.. I must say the ability of printers to copy and reproduce parts of a plan was a working reference is a fantastic help, I'm sure trad building will enjoy a well earned resurgence.. with the help of scanners and printers based in the home.. plus CNC part kits (no denigning their offering and attraction)
  11. Hey Alan... Merry Christmas to you... Hope youre having a great time! Merry Christmas to all on the forum too... I hope the fella with the large sack drop a few boxes off for each and everyone one of you ...
  12. Posted by Rob Buckley on 22/12/2015 17:32:37: Don't forget that a summary of the annual meeting with the CAA has been on the LMA website for a little while. **LINK** Thank you for posting this Rob, I was not aware of the contents of the meeting held with the CAA. Your summary on the LMA site is very informative to those of us who read this thread and wonder "what if".. I'm glad to read the CAA have maintained a commom sense approach to the hobby, are happy with our activities and seeking no changes along the lines of the US FAA.. Its great to read they have also said this to EASA.. It is however diaappointing to read the BMFA attended and have furnished members with such detailed breakdown or summary! Additionally, FPVUK did not attend the meeting for the second year, especially with AIRPROX incidents increasing in 2015 the majority of which were "drones".. Interesting reading, thanks again to the LMA for reporting this...
  13. I looked the Aldi drone over the other day; its made of EPO type material.. doesnt look too robust to be honest.. I doubt it could be flown in a breeze over 5mph. Certainly nothing like a DJI in rigid plastic.. Agreed it isnt a good idea and a no brainer about indoors flying.. but I do suspect any claim about injuries will be placed at the door of the retailer and manufacturer as it is they who have the duty of care on customer protection. The hoverboard stuff in the press at moment is case in point, these "blow up" according to report and have now removed from sale.. Now where are those brandy mince pies... can I drive or fly a model after I have had one !
  14. Using a naked flame in the kitchen near oil and flammable objects is dangerous.. However, it is down to the user to ensure the safety in operation... after, lots of people do it - trained or otherwise Lets be reasonable and sensible here and get on with festive activities....
  15. Posted by reg shaw on 15/12/2015 12:47:39: Not many of my plans include much aeronautica for the start of the year. 1, move house, to a place with no water, drains, sheds and workshops!! It does have floors and a roof though, so its better than the last house we bought! 2, make house livable, build a garage and two workshops. 3, sort out a 1935 narrowboat to live on. 4, move my mum into the house when we move out. 5, toy aeroplanes, build, fly, sell, repeat!! Deffo no buying of projects and the like, I'm having to put lots in storage till I get the new den built. Should keep me busy enough. Ian. Edited By reg shaw on 15/12/2015 12:48:36 Build a garage and TWO workshops.. Good lad Reg.. I remember Monty Python doing a sketch about two sheds... still makes me smirk to this day.. hence my comment Merry Crimble
  16. I can only echo the comments on here now; best avoided... They seem to have "reorganised" themselves from what and into what I can even hazard a guess.. but it isnt effective service that is for sure.. I bought some glues etc off them at Weston, but the variety wasnt the same and some of the cyano has since gone firm on me - even when kept in the cool dark box... We could do with someone to come forward and step in where they left off as there is a definate need.. plus expertise in all things "glue" for us modellers.. I remember reading before they were relocating to Bulgaria.. so heaven knows what excuses can be conjoured up with a new business out there.. mind you - they do say relocation is ongoing from Feb-Dec.. are they walking there with a cart or something.. Barpole and touching have been mentioned, I'd therefore say the same!
  17. Posted by Kevin Wilson on 14/12/2015 15:27:59: These old programs really should have a warning notice before the broadcast. Something along the lines of... HISTORIC ARCHIVE FOOTAGE. This program represents modeling as it was many years back, and does not represent current practice. Please refer to up to date sources, such as the excellent RCME magazine, to see exciting models and short ariels. Uninformed people may come away with the idea that a helium balloon controlled by a 27MHz AM 'Divining rod' is what we all really think of as 'FUN' Modeling has moved on so far as to make these programs well and truly obsolete. Hey Kevin A good few of us on here put so much into the hobby back "then" it made it what it is "today"..! Still if lifting an Wots Wot in ARTF guise whilst in the Aisles of Tesco floats your boat (litterally as I have read they sell them too) go on and enjoy.. for sure you wont see the few of us who enjoyed this thread in the aisles anytime soon!
  18. What about Roy Lever on Model Mania? Now there was a passionate modeller, many a happy hour spent in his store gathering goodies and being shown the latest must haves! and of course listening to him correct those who were straying from fixed wing, glow/petrol fuelled models! Roy always reminded me of Fred Dibner, they had the same enthusiasm for their hobbies... Also enjoyed Bob Symes.. I still have the book that went along with the BBC TV series with planes for a model airplane in.. Those were the days.. and the best time of year to remember such happy times and folk we all used to enjoy watching. SKY should run a dedicated hobbies channel for us all to have on in the background whilst in the workshop..
  19. Sad news to read. Warm winds and blue skies Steve.. you will be missed by many reading the comments here, and more importantly - you will not be forgotten. Read some super articles written by Steve over the years, a lot of them solved my problems at the time.. I have kept them too to refresh my memory and point others in the right direction.. The gliding articles in RCME last year I think it was were great for anyone wanting to get into it or a refresher... Flew a couple of times with Steve at the Lleyn fly in and on the slopes too, saw him in town when we were out over there.. Sad news indeed.. RIP Steve.

Hi Erf.. Good lad, I’d wave the flag at the family youre moving closer too and tip them off you need them to look after the broadband etc.. if they are on BT Broadband you can easily buddy on their Wifi and on your mobiles too via BT hotspots.. you can even get Sky via a pass on from the sky account holder.. Anything else you’re wanting to keep after moving, draft up one letter and just change address to supplier.. try to make it as simple as possible for yourself mate... good luck with it...

Erf, get an A4 book and use it for notes on the move.. consign some of these worries and solutions to paper.. wuill help get a few out of your head and leave you clearer to focus on important stuff.. Important stuff (now those bottles of JD & Goldwasser have been waiting for a big day/project like this)... draw up a plan of potential new model room(s), workshop with bench in the middle, garage with racking & vice / piller drill bench etc. I always find once on paper, projects & tasks are halved in magnitude.. from here they can be broken down into smaller activities.. plans if you prefer.. and we all know how we love a plan! Let the girls know youre opening their respective bottles for this new project and chapter in your life.. it may spur them on to lend a hand & share some of the tasks that may seem daunting.. Good lucky with it
  23. Looks lovely Tim, super job! Can you tell me where to get some of this from ? is there a specific thickness for models etc? Thanks in advance,

    Moving Models

Hi Erf, I'd recommend the van hire suggested, over a weekend these can be two days for one as they are not out on rental to business users etc and rental business are keen to see them being used.. So look into getting a good deal, maybe ask a pal at the flying club to assist in moving them as a lot of "helpers" do not always share the need for care around our precious models.. I moved a few years back, similar amount of models, but not over the distance you have to cover.. I did around 6-7 trips with my estate.. time consuming and a headache in the end.. So if youre not looking forward to it and the trip.. aim to get it over and done with in one trip.. Setting up the new workshop can be the project you focus when this issue has a happy solution for you... Good luck Erf and enjoy the move and future plans..
  25. All the utter bargains for us IC and petrol boys to pick up.. Some excellent deals to be had and why would anyone want just 7-8mins in the air? I am not even warmed up then.. nice four stroke and 35min tank for me or larger... Everytime
