  1. The questions to ask are perhaps.   1: Much Familly entertainment? if required? 2: Spectating and Dealers only? 3: Long weekend with flying time and Dealers? 4: Pure flying time?   The LMA have weekend shows with camping, Members get to fly outwith show time at some of them. For members only they have some long weekends where Large models are NOT required although very welcome. Membership offset againt any onsight camping/caravan cost, or camping even inclusive to the weekend. No power supplied, you need to be self contained although Water and waste disposal and Portaloo usually onsite.   Elvington near York was a great event in 2011, and is set be bigger/better in 2012.
  2. I will take Peter at face value,, Shaunie, my thought on your 1994 fuel. From the date it is likely to be Castor oil additive and Castor Oil being a plant extract it is quite liable to change even in the presence of Methanol which although another form of Biological product is less liable to change on it's own. Combined, there will be a slow change. That I think will be the main cause of the lower performance you report.
  3. Thank you for this thread, the experiment and result. It does basically confirm the argument that some of us have stated against the old wives tale of the harm and indeed the lack of fact when claims are made of water in fuel. My experiment of leaving the cap off a container of fuel caused accusations of me not telling the truth... Vindication I think.
  4. First fairly nice day for months, ground waterlogged after what would be described torrential elsewhere. Back to very windy and more of our "Normal" rain now and set to be worse with Be aware, danger type warning for Thursday.
  5. Dear Santa, how do I remove threadlock.   Dear Punter, ask a moderator.
  6. sorry stuttery finger troubleEdited By flytilbroke on 25/12/2011 23:19:05
  7. DIDN'T HE DO WELL, I have had to stay teetotal being what turned out a varied day including TAXI DAD, Quite nice one though.   I hope you enjoy flying it Stephen. Cheers.
  8. Not knowing what you fancy as to size,,, Northstar. The plans are still about on some of the forums, do a search. The Kits are still done as far as I know and even better, they can be used on both land and water. On the water they excel.
  9. We used to have a big houseful, then age caught up and some left. Still miss the ones who can had thier life. Our youngest, with the big family is too far away but we still have some local. None are fond of the old traditional style, so we have a long, many snack items, and for the adults boozy, chinwag day. I do the cooking, they do the cleaning.
  10. Kevin Routledge supplied both the Glider and the Tug, Colin Maclean assisted by being the glider Pilot.   We believe that the very first flight with this combination was a first Model Glider Tow of Water in the UK, Europe, and posibly the World. The occasion was widely reported through various Forums and in some articles in UK Mags. My pics using a Canon 450d were used.   The incident at L.Leven happened in very rough weather with the main cause Pilot Error as admitted by The great man Kevin himself. He forgot he had full flaps on, on the Tug, which caused it to go into a sort of stall before it had even tightened the glider tow line. All fixed quite quckly said Kevin.   Really spoiled his weekend as he had not brought any more models. All the way from the south Lake District.
  11. Most of the 12v input chargers are designed to accept a considerably greater input voltage. The figure of 12v is a loose description when applied to most consumer items especially when it comes to automotive items. Modern cars/vans have reasonably well regulated systems compared to the old "Generator" types of quite some time ago. It is quite easy to make a lead suitable for our charger connections using a heavy wire eg: light jump lead using a plastics box and electrical connector posts. Maplin and most suppliers can provide them. They can be built to provide multiple connection points. So, do not fear actually using the car as you can then position the charge site clear of it. It is very unlikely that a running car engine will provide a voltage which is too high and it will allay the fear of a flat car battery.   I have been using such a system for many years both for model use and Amateur Radio.
  12. Something that is free, at least my copy was,,, Kindle for the PC. Still got to pay for the books though. A very useful programe this, even though I have a portable Kindle.

To be honest I doubt it as I don't think we've met!   BEB I've met him, once seen never forgotten. lol   Geoff..............Foot in mouth dept. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css); @import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); Agreed, by Flytilbroke,,,,,,,,,Seconder dept.
  14. Tried to walk out to the car this morning, found the polish deposited overnight disagreed with my ballance. I managed to stay sort of upright and returned indoors. Seems to have rained a little last night and froze instantly. Even the sharp gravel got glazed.   Our Sunday field is a couple of miles along a single track road which does NOT get gritted, so wimpy FTB stayed home.   Started light rain at 1pm, did not fully melt the glaze, now frozen again. Thinking about getting a Pheonix flight sim
  15. Never seen a pool of water in either my model tanks or in the main fuel bottle. The model tanks are pressurised by the exhaust, so, if there was much water vapour at the pressure nipple there would certainly be visible water when the tank reaches the empty, dead stick state as it would then be well filled by the water vapour. Which would condense. Far to much of old wives tales are believed without real proof such as a Science lab test of water content of modellers main methanol fuel remaining at say half the original four litres.
  16. Car battery would do quite well provided you did NOT take to much out of it, they do not recover well from deep discharging. Leisure battery, these can withstand moderate deep disharging with a good recovery. So the best answer is that if you wish to continue with field charging and possibly even increase your demand, go for a good leisure type.
  17. Hello David,   All depends on your lipo and how many charges you require. So not enough info.   Perhaps someone will point to previous thread/s ??   whoops beaten to it Edited By flytilbroke on 18/12/2011 18:21:13
  18. Easily recognisable, a most unusual square black face.
  19. Only had six dry days in two months and today was the first of them when it was not windy, the ground at the main flying site though is waterlogged with ice on top, plus a slalom course of mole heaps. I had one day flying three, hmmm six weeks,,, (head scratch) ago   The Sunday site might be ok tommorow as long as it keeps freezing.   What do you mean cold? it's only reached thick shirt time at -3c here, and I am past 68
  20. I offered to get herself a really nice Model from YT,,, and demonstrate it flying for her. Got a sort of scowl with a laugh What did I do wrong?
  21. Posted by Pete B on 15/12/2011 20:04:02: If you are using the standard satellite F connectors, Erfolg, you can get a joint kit such as this. I suspect though, if you have these connectors already, your problem will be solved if you just bind the fitting with self-amalgamating tape, which is as waterproof as you'll ever need. PVC tape is no good for such a purpose.   Pete Good advice Pete.
  22. Posted by Tom Sharp 2 on 15/12/2011 20:36:40: Do any flyers have difficulty flying inverted circuits in any particular direction?         Yep. the chosen one
  23. Next up, is the right handed syndrom. Most right handed folk seem to find it easier to do left handed, anti-clockwise actions. The same applies to two player video games on a split screen. Given that both are right handed the player on the right of the screen has a definate advanage. I have seen often when model flyers take off right to left they then want to reverse the pattern into anti-clockwise circuits.
