What's the verdict Mike? I was just about to launch and upgrade, but thought I would post a message on here to say there is a session up and running. Pleased that my usual early adopter mentality went awol for a day.

clamps for soldering, etc.
Pat (rActive) Harbord replied to andyh's topic in Gadgets and Electronics
Search for 'helping hands soldering tool' you'll find something suitable. I've always used wooden pegs though as they don't steel heat from the work piece -

interesting, i'm building something out of foam (it floats) at the moment. I would think you need to look back into the 50's for free flight models. -
I have to agree with Kelly. I've never managed to cause a fire and I've been mistreating lipos since they came out . I do get the odd puffed cell and a 3 cell that reads as a 2, but it's ok, they are relatively cheap to not too much to worry about. Charge carefully (read the specs) with a good charger, check discharge with a watt meter and you won't go far wrong

very interested to see how you get on - please do post a build blog

Phoenix Online Session
Pat (rActive) Harbord replied to Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator's topic in Simulators
My pleasure Nev. didn't get it working, it's the old type where it's all one piece instead of the dongle and a plug in adapter. I think there's a loose connection in the black box. Will talk to Phoenix to see what they say. -
Piper Twin Apache PA23 -150 74"
Pat (rActive) Harbord replied to Danny Fenton's topic in Own Design Project Blogs
Danny/Ton awesome design and build. Lovely to see a twin civ project huge ask now ... Would you be prepared to share the 3D model? Purely for my own educational purposes. I'm learning AutoCAD via online videos but failing to make the leap to what I want to do - design model aircraft. I'm hoping deconstructing an existing expertly drawn file will help my understanding. totaly understand if its a no, just though it would be worth asking -
I'm not familiar with the Tranquilliser but sounds like a standard built up balsa wing. Packing the trailing edge and sheeting the leading edge up to and including the main spar should lock the twist in. Make sure you leave it all pinned/weighted down while the sheeting dries (overnight is not a bad idea) or the odd drop of CA here and there if you're in a rush. If the washout relaxes a little when you flip the wing over to do the bottom, you can pack the TE up at the root to compensate whilst the glue goes off. the important thing is both wings are pretty much identical to save adding drag with aileron trim later.

love it. Where do I find plans etc? I mean my err mate thinks he might like to do some scientific research (much like that indicated in the video clip). Definitely not me though you ain't ain't seen me right. Edited By rActive on 28/10/2013 22:08:45 Edited By rActive on 28/10/2013 22:09:06 -
I'm running winXP on VMware Fusion on my 2 year old i5 iMac. Phoenix runs beautifully with all the settings maxed out. Incidentally, X-Plane from laminar research is a full size sim well worth a look if you have a high end PC, mac or Linux box. **LINK** demos for all platforms are available.

Can I fly with any of these items?
Pat (rActive) Harbord replied to Foxfan's topic in Electric Flight for Beginners
Posted by Foxfan on 23/07/2013 00:48:26: they are appallingly badly drawn for the money, so I will do my own, but the PixE confirms it can be done and I will Austerise it to go with one at my full sized flying club. Thanks again, Martin Tim Hoopers PixE plan is excellent and there's a build article if you need it -
SIG Rascal (the little one). I built my kit 10 odd years ago. It had a geared brushed 400 and ran off an 8 AA cell niMH pack (I've always been a trail blazer) esc was a jeti 30 as I recal. Still have the airframe, need to sort a brushless setup for it. still flying is my Steven Aeros G-Ride which was intended to use the GWS brushed set ups. Mine has always had a geared brushless in runner and is perfect on a 3cell 850mah lipo.
