  1. Hi Jim, Sorry about the picture quality and the freehand drawing but you'll get the idea. When designing/building a tapered wing with the same section I draw it like this, cut out the reducing ribs and build it upside down on a flat surface. This achieves the washout I want as pre determined on my drawing. Ruprect

Agreed Chris, quick glues are OK for running repairs at the flying field but you can't beat a slow cure and a bit of patience when building.
  4. 'Crutch' building is my preferred open structure method, Either do the sides or top and bottom halves first. Pin down the centre line longerons for top and bottom or upper and lower spines for the sides. Glue on the half formers then the stringers, when dry remove from the board and join the halves together. Ruprect

  8. I use hatch magnets on all my models, I epoxy mount them into 1/8 ply drilled to suit the size. A simple mod to your hatch would allow this. See **LINK** Products
  9. The suggested 3542 is a good replacement for the Liberty, a 1200g model will respond well to the power potential of this motor.
  10. Interested to see the outcome from GS. Mass produced electronic products purchased cheaply by definition will have a fault ratio. Approx 1 out of 10 of the esc's I have purchased have been faulty. I suppose the answer is spend a lot more money for quality.
  11. Interesting! As I am the founding member of C.L.A.G.A.S.S. Citizens League Against Golf And other Stupid Sports, I shall practice flying over the golf course before I commit to the airborne surveillance of blood sports. I would consider this a worthy enterprise and will happily put my best friends plane in the line of fire.

  13. It's all down to trust with me and although far from scale, for small models I use these Radio Active nipple links from Ben Buckle with a little drop of thread lock on the grub screw. **LINK**
  14. It's all very annoying, I call it PULP FACTION. Then I remember the spoof 'Airplane' movie when the four jet has the constant droning of a piston four prop and still laugh. I wonder how many of the viewers got that joke?
  15. The MG996R(good car reg that) is digital, therefore are driven by a digital amplifier which has a small microprocessor to generate the necessary drive current to the motor. This drive current is switched at very high speed, hence this will be audible as a high frequency buzzing - this is not a fault at all, this is how they work. The audible noise is a result of the servos very tight centring ability, it will constantly hunt around the exact centre point minutely to enable best possible resolution. All digital servos sound different from standard types and they tend to exhibit this type of high frequency switching noise. If you are unsure this is suitable for your needs buy an analogue servo. Basically a propellor with a 6 inch pitch means that 'theoretically', for every revolution the propellor will 'screw' through 6 inches of air, therefore by fitting your 4 inch pitch propellor for every revolution it will screw through 4 inches of air. This obviously equates to a 'theoretical' 33.3 percent reduction in amount of air screwed through per revolution. Thats a big drop. Ruprect

  18. You have to be careful with the width of the bands also, the thicker the band the less elastic they are. I made the mistake of using the 2/3rd chord system and stretched a wide band across, this crushed the wing and wrecked a months work. I'm afraid it's trial and error so over the years I've built up a supply of various wing bands, I even use the cheap WH Smith stationary ones for some free flight models.   19. Very nice CCT! That's 2 foreign flights for me today, Australia and Belgium. I do get around alot. A bit previous on the Spring thing though, next week is looking very nasty. Don't put away that snow shovel just yet!
  20. I love these travelogues! Saves a fortune on airfares. Assuming you are also the Grantham Kid the video's of the T28 and PC9 show a decent cricket ground although not immediately obvious in your gliding one. Was it a casualty of the floods?
  21. Nothing beats a long cold soak overnight. Using heat/steam and chemicals only serve to break down the fibres and natural resins within the wood and when it dries it becomes brittle. OK they are only models and I suppose speed of construction is an issue.
