  1. Very nice Chris! Good to see some more free flight on here. Those VMC kits are really good, well designed, good wood and tissue and they fly well.
  2. BEB, go sit in the corner and smack your forehead for a bit, that's about as useful as your first post. Might I recommend 'Capitalism for Dummies' for some light reading? Welcome to the real world: Profitieren uber alles. Edited By Monz on 13/12/2015 22:15:47
  3. Nice build Chris. How do you find the PU glue in a tube compared to the squeezy bottle for ease of use?
  4. I investigated various extraction options for a business I'm setting up. For the hobbyist, a normal (Henry or equivalent) vacuum is the best option. I have invested in an industrial vacuum, but the noise is much more than what is acceptable for home hobby use, albeit more effective. An alternative is sanding inside a small polyethylene shell and then evacuating that once done.
  5. The Herc will be great. If you're going to use depron and balsa, just build it and don't worry about weight, obviously heed the 'keep the tail light' advice, but apart from that it will come out much lighter than you'd anticipate. My big Bucc is 7.5lbs using depron and glass cloth and is completely underweight! To the point that it will need ballast in even lightish conditions just to be able to penetrate!
  6. Posted by Daithi O Buitigh on 28/11/2015 11:11:45: Personally I've always ben a bit sceptical to see any camera described as a 'digital' SLR. Unless I'm mistaken, a Single Lens Reflex is a setup whereby what is seen in the viewfinder is taken straight from the camera lens (hence the 'single lens'. Now as any digital camera these days uses a LCD screen as the viewfinder with the image coming from the object lens anyway, that bit of light bending inside the camera to a separate viewfinder is pointless. Sure, they're high quality cameras, but calling them SLRs to me is totally unnecessary. Except mine has no live LCD viewfinder, only a traditional viewfinder which I have to look through to shoot which shows me what I'm looking at straight from the lens. The 'digital' in DSLR is the processor which replaces the film. That's all.
  7. I have a ten year old entry level Canon DSLR and lens kit and it's great for my needs. I could do with a video recording option, so if I was to 'upgrade' I'd go with a compact like a Lumix or something, but then I know the SLR would get even less outings. Some of the amateur aviation stuff my old SLR has taken: **LINK**
  8. That's a very nice looking model Simon, well done, she'll cherish it.
  9. How about a 'rare chance to own'? **LINK**
  10. Nothing wrong with a red Hurricane: These kits are laser cut, have great wood and accessories and are designed and tested to actually fly.
  11. The WW1 display has ample light for photographs and I've not had any issues in the other areas either. Although free entry, you do need to pay for parking, so take at least £10 in change along for that. Also make sure you use the postcode for 'satnav users' - NW9 5QW.
  12. I was on the road to a shoot in Cambridge and saw you guys above me crossing the A10 in tight formo, still thought to myself 'Lucky so and so!'. I'm curious, could you hear the Merlin over the Gypsies? Nice one!
  13. Happy birthday Mr Jarrett, great build, look forward (albeit reluctantly) to it's conclusion!
  14. Posted by onetenor on 10/10/2015 22:28:10: Happy birthday .Paul. Congratulations on a great build from another Hurricane lover Got my first pair when I was born given to me by an uncle who was In the R.A.F.as fitter. Made from pine by him. 4 cannon made with Pop rivets Green and Brown cam for one and Sand and Brown for the other. Got confiscated by a something of teacher at primary school when I was 9. Never would give 'em back. Sod no doubt kept them for himself. SAME AS MY ARMY POCKET KNIFE. I was showing that to the lads same as the models .I could tell you a lot more about him Twisted sod committed suicide.Sorry //gone off topic a bit but love of Hurris brought it on. Wow, way to go putting a damper on a thread.         Edited By Monz on 10/10/2015 22:42:36
  15. Also be keen to know as looking for a club. Matty, what are the details and cost for joining OW?
  16. Roy, do yourself a favour and revert to your previous version of Windows. Best thing I did and I only had 10 for about 30 mins! Mozzie is looking good so far.
  17. Are you talking about the unregulated, moron led "chuck the untrimmed model into a group of people and laugh at he who ducks last" or the actual scale competition that takes place in the evenings?
  18. Posted by Donald Fry on 23/08/2015 20:42:10: the planes have past their sell by date the pilots are no longer good enough on these old technologies an unlucky year. No they haven't Rubbish If you're superstitious, maybe.
  19. Posted by John Privett on 23/08/2015 18:58:47: Posted by Monz on 23/08/2015 18:31:22: Yesterday was a very hot and humid day with a low pressure system moving in. Yes, I did wonder about that myself. Temperature was around 27 or 28C, air pressure (QFE) had been around 1014 in the morning and dropped a little throughout the day to 1011 (as best I recall - but certainly very close to those figures.) The Hunter flew in from elsewhere for the display. It was down to 1008 at around the time of the display and had dropped to 1004 by later on in the afternoon. Did he fly in from North Weald? Either way he would have been given an 'on the fly' weather report prior to beginning the display. The weather variable, fuel state variable (think weight for atmospheric conditions) a bit of time pressure to make the slot and a slight miscalculation in speed and alt needed for that atmosphere...
  20. Posted by Bill_B on 23/08/2015 18:55:44: Posted by Monz on 23/08/2015 18:31:22: Yesterday was a very hot and humid day with a low pressure system moving in. The weather was different the day before when he did his display validation. I personally think that he was caught out by a significant change in Density Altitude. And you don't think that a pilot of his experience might have just checked the weather conditions pre flight? I can only feel abject sorrow for the poor pilot who's laid up in hospital critically ill whilst armchair experts post their condemning suppositions of 'pilot error' before an official announcement. What a sad society we are. Bill, he would have been given QFE for his display by the tower, but beyond that I don't know if he checked the variable relative humidity. Maybe he forgot to in a rush to meet his display slot, or was distracted by something. I don't know. Were you keeping track of the drop in pressure over the course of the day? I was. Nor am I condemning the pilot, merely posting what I think happened. This of course backed up by a pilot familiar with both that specific aircraft and pilot, see my quote above. So, though maybe not completely accurate, my supposition holds ground. You are more than welcome to wait for the 'official announcement', I will continue to speculate, respectfully, and try learn what I can from this to be a better pilot.
  21. Yesterday was a very hot and humid day with a low pressure system moving in. The weather was different the day before when he did his display validation. He would have had less lift and power available in those atmospheric conditions. I personally think that he was caught out by a significant change in Density Altitude. Yes, you can see the beginnings of a high alpha stall with the wing drop which he arrested by unloading the G, but he just didn't have the altitude, or, enough bite in the air to pull it through. To quote someone who knew the pilot very well and had also flown that aircraft: "Sometimes, it just all goes wrong".
