  1. Pretty sure I wouldn't put up with someone hovering a plane (or heli for that matter) opposite the pilots box whilst I was on the flight line. It would distract me to much. It should be at one of the far ends of the strip, after the intention to do it has been indicated and all flying pilots consented.
  2. I have a started contact 140 kit that I intend to finish. Steve Dunning has just made me a lovely set of wings for it as well. Happy to copy the instructions / diagram sheets if you want them. No plan though.
  3. Posted by Jon Harper - Laser Engines on 13/05/2016 10:54:36: ..but the model needs to be flown to touchdown. Dont chop the power and glide in, warbirds dont normally like this!... Jon, this isn't a challenge (as you are far more experienced than me) but rather an attempt to understand something I may be doing wrong before it results in a crash. I have an irvine .39 powered Cambrian funfighter p-51 that I fly regularly. It is heavy, over-powered, needs a damn good javelin launch and likes to be flown fast. It also has to be landed dead stick because of the lack of undercarriage. I always chop the power just after turning to finals and glide it in. I have never had an issue with this approach. Should I be doing it differently?
  4. Thanks for the notification . I have one of these awaiting an airframe, good to know there will be parts for a while.
  5. I must admit that whenever Steve is flying one of his very large, very impressive, models I cant take my eyes off it for a second. And I always seem to find myself standing next to something large and solid. Funny that.
  6. Hi all, I can't commit to building one of these at the moment but would like a kit to put by for future build. Will keep an eye open for the released kits.
  7. Posted by bert baker on 24/05/2016 12:19:46: Is that the same type Alli Mac had a few years back. I recently watched a video regarding the English Electric Lightning that Ali was flying and he stated it did have a powerbox iGyro installed. The video stated that the Lightning was twitchy on roll but I am not sure if the iGyro was just on Ailerons or on all surfaces.
  8. Id be interested to know if there are any gyro's installed in the model. Given the fairly notorious handling it would be a good candidate for some assistance.
  9. That does not look easy to fly at all. Great looking plane and fantastic landing.
  10. I have some planes with gyro stabilisation in them and some without. Would I put a gyro in a super 60? Of course not. Would I try and fly a 20cm span EDF jet without one? Not twice It's horses for courses really. Some guys at our club are very vocal about how it is cheating, they don't work (cant set them up more like), real men fly without etc. and the rest of us just get on and use them where we think they will help. I think one of the big misconceptions around stabilisation systems in planes is that they make it easy to fly a plane well. They don't, they just make the plane easier to control and that ain't the same thing. My best example of this is my Dereck Woodward "Bigger Bit". I have a single channel gyro on the rudder servo. The gain is very low and all it really does is assist in keeping it straight on take off. The plane has a very high AoA on the ground and is massively over-powered. Without the gyro a take off with a side wind is very exciting indeed. With it I can make it a much more sedate and predictable affair. I do agree there is no need for them in club trainers though. Basic skills are best learnt without a veil of technological complexity that isn't required. JMO though.
  11. Had a great day the field today on a rare day off. Lovely weather and some good company. Flew my Alleycat racer twice but engine problems stopped me flying it again, deadsticks are a little hairy I think it needs a new one-way valve for the pressured tank. Also flew my re-built 'Amy' 5 or 6 times. It's a cracking little plane and loads of fun to fly now the OS 25 fp has settled in. I do need a larger rx pack in it though as topping it up every other flight is tedious. Be shame though as the current 1000mAh pack balances it perfectly. A larger one will require some lead in the tail, which I hate doing. Also had 3 flights on my 450x which is fun to fly.
  12. Could it be a scaled up version of Dereck Woodwards "Amelia"? http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/15658/mag167--amelia
  13. Hah, that reminds me of an incident when I used to fly at Chingford plain. It's a public area with horses and families and there was a footpath right across one end of the flying field. I was fling a smallish electric fun fighter and was preparing to land. On my approach leg of the circuit I scanned my approach and there is a family with two young children standing right at the end of the runway watching me fly They mistook my urgent gesticulations for a friendly greeting, waved back and continued to stand on the runway looking at the plane! They seemed very disappointed in me when I landed in a big bush at the other end of the strip... Better than hitting them though.
  14. Congratulations Martyn, re-assuring to get the maiden done and the plane down in one piece when it has been such a labour of love. I agree with Minty, 3 great looking planes there.
  15. Oi, pictures or it didn't happen!
  16. I always used my old dsmX DX6i with dsm2 receivers. I also use my DX9 with dsm2 receivers. It is just the latest generation of dsmX Spektrum transmitters that wont work with dsm2.
  17. My new Proxxon disc Sander: http://www.axminster.co.uk/proxxon-tg-125-e-disc-sander-210577 I dont know how I ever made anything square without it
  18. Yup, even the pilot was quoted as calling for stricter enforcement of the existing regulations. No one, except the press, is shouting "Ban them!" as yet. I will start saving for my licencing fee for next year though
  19. Looks great, I fancy it would look great with retracts too.
  20. Ah, it's a shame I missed this Tim. Glad to hear it flew well but a shame about the damage. I haven't been down for a few weeks now, has the strip dried out much?
  21. Yeah that looks to be it. Many thanks slim. Of course it wasn't hard, you just managed to do it before me
  22. yes it is similar to the speed cat but is definately electric only I will have a trawl through Hobbyking on the off chance but I am pretty sure the model is at least 5 years old so don't hold out much chance that it is still available. Might be an adventure to guess teh CofG
