  1. My view is that small specialist retail and good comms / customer service are not mutually exclusive. To survive, model retailers need to be able to do both.
  2. Posted by John Roberts 9 on 05/06/2019 11:44:08: I have found that on some ESC's the brake function doesn't work unless you have the throttle trim on the Tx reduced to almost nothing. I suspect that with the throttle trim 'centred' (which is the normal default setting) the ESC will assume that the throttle is still slightly open (even though the motor isn't actually turning) and, therefore, will not engage the brake function. YEP speed controllers seem more likely to exhibit this issue but I am pretty sure the same principle will apply to other makes. This fix has cured an apparently non-operative brake on three of my models (two gliders and one flying wing). Certainly worth a try...……...takes a few seconds and costs nothing! John, when you say throttle trim reduced to nothing - do you mean pulled all the way back? ie use the maximum allowable trim?
  3. Posted by Koen Smits on 02/06/2019 18:29:02: @ FilmBuff, Hello, please look at this link **LINK** They have spinners, centerpieces and rubber rings for foldingprops. the site is in german and englisch. Good spot. They are on holiday until 4th July. Postage for 6 euros of rubber is 12 euros. Ouch!
  4. @Simon It's not quite as fierce as that. I'll double check the programming, I'm a bit wary to rotate by hand as there is 650 Watts available...  Edited By FilmBuff on 02/06/2019 16:58:13
  5. Posted by Martin Harris on 02/06/2019 11:11:03: Do you have a programming card or are you setting by the beep method? I think there's a possibility that some Dymond ESCs only provide braking off/medium by the latter and you need a programing card to set hard braking. Hi Martin - I have a card and I will double check.
  6. @JulianJ that looks interesting - I'll investigate Took the Vegas out again this morning. On the ground, motor does brake and the blades fold okay. In flight, I can hear the motor braking, but the large prop still freewheels say 50% of the time. I can live with it by climbing vertically, slamming the throttle shut and the plane does a flop over loop which always seems to folds the prop. It's then in a good position to start the dive towards earth that provides energy for fun and games aeros with the speed. Maybe the Dymond ESC is just not providing enough brake.
  7. Posted by Piers Bowlan on 31/05/2019 16:40:50: Trying another 60A ESC if you have one, is where I would start. If it really is working on the ground, it should stop the prop windmilling in the air. Do you have a programming card for the Dymond ESC? Use that to check that 'Brake on' really is selected. Good luck. Yes Piers, I have used a programming card - but no harm in checking again!
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. The prob hub pivot with the blades is very free. When on the ground - the ESC brake does appear to work okay. It stops the motor well. In the air, it seems the big prop still has the latent power to rotate the motor. Using a Dymond 60A ESC. Reading some forums - they suggest extending the end rate on low throttle - I'll give that a try.   Edited By FilmBuff on 31/05/2019 11:41:13
  9. Really enjoying my Staufenbiel Vegas glider at the moment - but for small niggle. Despite quite fierce ESC braking, the 14 inch prop does not readily fold. I often have to pull a big half loop to get it to fold, or practically stall it into wind, which slows the model and hence the prop, until it folds. Any ideas? I don't want to go down the route of trying to use small rubber bands around the hub and spinner. It's not a big problem and I'm sure I can live with it.
  10. Posted by Manish Chandrayan on 10/05/2019 05:06:53: A very basic question. Do you apply the rudder first in the direction of the turn and then the aileorons or first bank and then apply rudder in opposite direction to keep the nose level? It's not a good idea when your learning or flying properly to do this. However, it can be fun to do with experience. I try and emulate a control line circuit. Control the turn with rudder and use opposite ailerons to keep the wings level as the plane flies a flat circuit. Needs the right plane, and if not careful you are opening up the possibility of a spin as others have said. On thermal gliders, when circling in lift, I find that I control the angle of the bank with ailerons and the size of the circle with rudder.  But this may just be me! 11. Posted by Peter Miller on 18/02/2019 21:10:37: The Easter Eagle senior is really intended for light winds. The fact taht the current owner has flown it in stong winds is purely bis slightly insane choice. He actually used to fly Mystique glider. Now he has admitted that he never knew what a real glider could be like Reality check needed Peter
  12. Posted by Percy Verance on 08/03/2019 13:40:26: I did intend to take a look/test drive in another brand's electric model, but the whole 900 car UK allocation due in April has already been sold...... Yes - I wanted to test drive a Hyundai Kona or Kia e-Niro. No chance. All models going direct to customers who have ordered and paid online - not to be wasted at a dealers... 11 month waiting list and the only chance you will get to drive one is at a regional test drive day.
  13. Here's my 2p worth. Tesla had first mover advantage in disrupting the auto industry with stylish premium brand EVs. But as soon as the established makers finally get their act together - Tesla will be blown away. When EVs can do 300+ miles on a charge, cost less that £28-£30K and be recharged in 20-30 mins then the market will switch. It will be the next big mobility inflection point after the gasoline revolution of the early 20th century.
  14. Love this Rich - the mag landed today and will be a spring build for me. Thing is - the plan has no dimension data for the wing components. I'm too lazy to leave my home office and run a ruler over the plan...
  15. Worst glider I ever built and flew. Tip stall city.
  16. Just checked the ratings. Episode 1 got just over 1 million total views. That's not bad at all. That's over 960,000 non rc flyers. Surely we must act on this to get some new recruits.
  17. No problem at all for me. People spend hundreds or thousands on their planes. Yet some worry about this increase.
  18. Some modellers are a funny lot! Moan that their voice is not heard - and when they get the chance - want to defer to the BMFA or can't be bothered to fill in some of the form... Interesting to read the BMFA response. Seems pretty sound to me. And I learnt something. Never knew that you could fly a hang glider or motorised para-glider at 14 years old.

  21. Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 27/07/2018 10:37:51: Its not floating my boat looking at the trailer. Seems to have a little too much fake hollywood 'action' at first glance. Guys - it's a movie drama - not a documentary on Discovery Channel
  22. Posted by Alan Gorham_ on 25/07/2018 16:13:45: Define "pounced on the innocent club fliers"? What has been done to them? Absolutely nothing at all isn't it? KC - let it go, mate. This news is a positive outcome.
  23. Posted by Paul C. on 25/07/2018 14:23:28: Without the BMFA, lma etc. We would have nothing other than a 400 ft limit. Are we really complaining about ?35 membership, at times I just despair !!@!!! Yep, there's no pleasing some people... I'm a BMFA Country Member and thought I would have to be a club member. So getting the exemption as a BMFA member and be able to fly at various slope sites across the country is a massive win.
