  1. Chucking it down, and windy. Went to see the new flying field though, after losing our last one ...................... nice.   Thanks Malcolm. And thanks to Roy (probably) for mowing the grass. And thanks to anyone that helped secure this nice site in such a lovely location. Hopefully it'll stop raining soon  GG
  2. Hi MG That's not very foamy ....  Hopefully the HK one will be a tad cheaper too. GG
  3. Thanks Ken   Unfortunately, our browser is so locked down, we can't get at most features.......   Anyway, I've just been incredibly stupid ! If I scroll down, right at the bottom ofter the content in the middle of the screen, all the stuff that appears on the left is there, just after the middle ands right hand content !   Du'oh !   A pain to scroll down 20 times but at least it's only once or twice a day   Thanks anyway,   GG
  4. I use IE6 at work (I know, I know!) and the left hand side of the page no longer loads, so I can't login .....   Anyone else having the same issues or is it our setup ?   We use XP and IE6   TIA GG
  5. David   Have you changed printers ? My copy has half a dozen pages printed off square, so I've lost some corners. Not a major problem as it's mostly adverts - and the classifieds............   Apart from that, nice issue. Good to see someone admitting their challenges in teh Mustang Review   GG
  6. My kit built Wotty has an ASP 61 FS in it - flies beautifully. Won't go vertical for ever and it's not a prop hanger .................. but it aint a heli and I prefer to use the wings for their designed purpose   It's quite heavy now so I suspect the ART would be even better.
  7. Hi Tony   Yes, I have a couple.   I have an ic powered NB16T 1/16 Truggy - fun but very temperamantal engine ........   Just got a Maverick Strada Brushless 1/10 Monster Truck. This is insanely fast - my labrador just watches it and quizzically looks at me as if to say "What the heck was that ?" Rumour has it you can use the throttle ......................... my 11 year old son loves this - especially over dirt, leaves and freshly mown grass.   I do get bored after half an hour or so though - I suspect that's because I don't set myself any challenges.   GG
  8. None at mo' due to mad workload....................   Was going to go mad in my two weeks hols after 15/4 but have just found out we've lost our field - don't know why yet Looks like I may be a park flier only for a while.   GG
  9. Mark Youatt Halifax - West Yorks Just ordered kit (Can't promise build pics.........................) GG
  10. That's a beautiful looking machine - I can't really afford one at the jmo' or there would be two of us with one !   Looking forward to build/flight reports ..............   GG
  11. BEB - not sure he wants to boil a whole plane   Second vote for baby wipes - I buy the real cheap ones in plastic pouches and they seem to do  a decent job. You don't get the pleasant aroma of the more xpensive ones though ...................   GG
  12. Is there going to be that nice Xmas 'prize a day' event this year ? GG
  13. For loud winds, I think you need one of the little timers Costa Coffee use for their over-priced food.  They seem to go beep-beep-beep all teh time and they're loud.  And annoying.   GG - living up to to his moniker .......................  Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 19/11/2010 07:38:26
  14. Loads of good stuff this month - good reviews too -  nice and honest !   Mr Hawes needs to read RCM&E though - Planemaster isn't really a new sim; it's been advertised in the mag for years, and it was even offered as a subscriber incentive I believe  Just joshing - still my favourite bit of the mag.  Closely followed by Andy Ellison's stuff - even though I'm not really a big glider fan and don't have/want a  jet ......................   G
  15. Well, originally, it had a picture of he very plane I flew - a Jodel Robin 200 but it doesn't seem to work any more.............. if anyone's interested it can be seen here :    http://www.multiflight.com/flight-training-centre/our-aircraft.php   Anyway, like I said I had a flying lesson at Leeds Bradford International Airport.  It took about 45 minutes in all - 30 of them in the air.  Brilliant !  Chatted to my instructor on the way to the plane and told her that I flew model planes so she didn't really bother much with the speech she said she normally makes about what the controls do.  Excellent !  She told me all about the engine controls and the transponder and then we started the engine up and sat there waiting for it to warm up and then we were off !   We taxied out onto the runway, following a dirty great 737........... talk about flea and elephant !  Off it went leaving a great trail of black smoke and lots of turbulent air.  We taxied out onto the runway and it was nice to see that my instructor couldn't keep a dead straight line.  She then switched from quite broad Yorkshire to generic aviation and off we went - hurtling down the runway at about 60 miles an hour. Up we went - much slower than in a passenger jet.   Very bumpy but wow what a brilliant feeling.  After about 2 minutes we'd left the controlled airspace so she gave me the controls.  For the next 25 minutes we just flew around.  Turn left she'd say - so we did.  It was just like flying a trainer with nice gentle smooth movements.  Obviously a million times better ! Turn right she'd say - "aim for Wetherby".  "Where's that ?" I'd say.............. just turn right over Harewood house and aim for the racecourse over there.  Strange way of navigating.   "Ooh look, the air ambulance is taking off" she said.  I couldn't see it.  Then I saw a miniscule yellow dot. Two minutes later it's a large yellow noisy thing flying right under us.
  16. Nice morning today, I flew this at Leeds Bradford airport !         My beautiful wifey bought me a flying lesson for my 50th............ wow, what a thrill ! Trouble is, now I want more lessons   GG Edited By GrumpyGnome on 30/10/2010 15:47:01
  17. Ooh, that'sa good topic !   My Balsacraft FW190 is about 15 years old but has lived in the eaves for most of that time - not because I don't like it but because since it burnt out the Race 600 BB that was in it, I haven't got around to fixing it.  I keep looking and thinking about the surgery needed and then other things take priority.   I also have a Howard Metcalf Sun-something that's even older but that has only flown three times I think - not sure if it'd give me anything my current fleet doesn't.   I have a Graupner Tiger Shark EDF in the box that has been part built for a year and a BypYak thats in it's box untouched that is three years old.  Think there is also a foamy Gile that is even older.  Maybe I need to put some of these on ebay !   There are about half a dozen others in the eaves that are between 5 and 8 years old.   Of the ones that are flying/being repaired:   WOT4 - 5 years old MUS - 4 years old YAK - year old Draken - year old Elektro Junior S - year old Tucano - 5 years old Rogue - 3 years old Easy Street - three years old although the Balsa in it is probably more than 10 years old .....   Mini Panic - 2 years old Blade CP Pro 2 with a Huey body - about 3 months old Walkera 4#3 - 3 years old Ultimate FF - 4 years old.   It's strange that some get put in the eaves and seem doomed never to see the light of day once they get a knock or some newer shinier thing takes it's place, whilst others just keep on getting fixed and fixed.    I had several GWS foamies that kept on getting fixed until they were more glue than foam, including a Tiger Moth that must have had about 20 re-incarnations with new livery or motor or something !  My Twin Star was the same.   My WOT4 and MUS seem destined to follow the same path while every time I damage the Rogue (easily done !) I tell it I'll only be fixing it once more.   GG
  18. I fancy dipping my toe in this cheap airborne vidoe malarkey but have two noddy questions:   a) Should I go for Gum Cam or KeyFob ?  Are there any real advantages/disadvantages ?   b) Do I get a device with TF memory or get the device and SD memoru separately ?   I have looked through the threads but they are too long to find the answers to such simple questions ................ and the mighty Google couldn't exactly guide me !   I'm thinking of using my Elektro Junior S at the flying field and my Mini Ultra Stik in the park for this - need to fix the MUS first though ..........   All opinions and thoughts welcomed.   GG
  19. Hi guys   A simple question for you - if I want to dip my toe in this particular water would I be better getting a gum cam or a keyfob cam ?  Or doesn't it  really matter !     GG
  20. Hi Big Phil   Mine's still called a Rogue ................ does leave me red in the face sometimes though   It's a nice plane (apart from the undercart) - have fun !   GG
  21. Not flown for a fortnight - not even in the garden   Had my 50th birthday pressie of a flying lesson at Leeds/Bradford airport canceled for a third time as well   GG
  22. Hi BP I've had a Rogue for a while.  Cheapo chinese outrunner from Giant Cod and 3S Lipo.  Good points: Wonderful flier - not really 3D but does lovely swoopy aerobatics; well built, light, finished beautifully. Bad points: need to cut a huge hole in the cowl if you want to take out the LiPo to charge it; typical USA undercarriage - they assume we all fly from billiard table flat flying fields !  Comes off / breaks very very easily .......................  It's completely different to the Panic - Panic is bonkers and the Rogue seems altogether more grown-up. Very nice plane. Enjoy !   GG P.S. There was a revidew in the reviews section ..................
  23. Just finishing three weeks off work - my first hols this year. Managed a few trips to the field - my notebook says that the last time I visited was 1/6 !  Had a few early mornings in the park but that's restricted to my Mini Ultra Stik and Rogue. Have flown all the fleet in the last three weeks and got in close to 100 flights in all - very rusty at first  so concentrated on the smaller/slower planes  Good fun but managed to damage the Rogue (pulled u/c off again - plus a big chunk of fuselage and damaged the MUS a lot - need to rebulid fuselage and fix wings.  Motor and LiPo may be dead too - currently still in the carrier bag of bits.  Nice break though. GGi
  24. I had a very early kit - had a few 'gremlins' but sorted now I think............... but I never did get on with the press-studs on the ends of the wings.  Mine's being refurbed following a dumbthumb moment so maybe I'll try again.  Great fun. Needs a wodge of nose weight ......................... or a LARGE Motor. GG
