  1. To refresh this discussion, I've added some photos of Purple Haze (OS15 glow power) and Electric Haze 2 (AXI 2014/10) to a public album. These models are from Ian Peacock's "hanger". Ian happens to live only a few miles down the road from me and has kindly loaned me the models so I can add to this topic. The original Electric Haze version 1 would have been with a 540 brushed motor and NiCads. Purple Haze plan can be obtained from Derick Scott at model-plans.co.uk Electric Haze as mentioned is RM303 I can add a bit more "story" to these models later. Anyway, here are the 2 Hazes together: Purple Haze with OS15 glow engine, 3 channel, fully sheeted wing Electric Haze 2, AXI 2014/10 brushless, 4 channel, conventional built up wing Wing sections, electric on top. 2. I was chatting a couple of weeks ago to a BMFA instructor visiting us from another club. He said that there is currently a difference of opinion between the CAA and Dept for Transport. The CAA is happy to allow fixed wing model flying to continue much as it has been, due to proven safety record. The DfT wants to legislate more heavily, I suppose for the usual reasons why governments like to. So we will see what happens sooner or later. I commented, standing on our remote patch down a pot-holed single track lane, "So are the Police going to come along that lane and stop us doing what we are doing?" We both had to agree that this is unlikely.
  3. You could have a look at the MEN archive. It's mainly diesel-oriented, but lots of helpful stuff.
  4. I too purchased the Aug issue of RCMW and it is a good edition. Also, I was looking forwards to the "Next month" Combat Fokker DVII feature plan by Greg Thompson from Oz. Looks like a fun plane to make and fly, so hoping this article will still be published somehow, or maybe as a plan only to purchase from Sarik. This issue of RCMW is noticeably thin on advertising content, reflecting the current company woes.
  5. The servo you want is currently on offer at Slough RC for £49.99. They presently have an offer on 20 various Futaba servos. http://www.sloughrc.com/default.asp?WPG=SRCM_HomePage1&itemid=P-S9251
  6. There was very little of substance in the article, which seems to be common for the author I'm afraid. In this case, he took pages of waffle to say that we should not grind model engine valves in the same way as full size automotive engines. Well I never!!! I wish the editor would hold the author to account on his profligate waffle.
  7. Ref the Wayne Giles ESR meter, I have recently purchased one of his last ever batch. It is an excellent product. Wayne has now passed the future manufacture over to an enthusiast in the USA, but he has completed the builds of his last 20 or so circuit boards remaining at home before hanging up his soldering iron. Once these are sold, the only source will be from USA, or a currently inferior copy product from HK. Price is £50 plus postage. If you are interested, I can pass your details (email contact please) on to Wayne, or you can find him through the previously linked RCGroups thread.
  8. If it was football sized, it was most likely visitors from the planet Tralfamadore. (That's about as believable as it being a drone anyway)
  9. Manny Williamson and Dave Phipps recently came to our club night to give a presentation and Q&A session. It seemed to me that all attendees were impressed by their reasoned approach and dedicated work on both the NFC and EASA. I am certainly convinced that we are in safe hands and I am grateful for the efforts being made by the BMFA on our behalf.
  10. It works, but the range of items stocked seems to have shrunk enormously. For example, look at Wheels in the Hardware section. There used to be a huge range and now hardly anything at all. Also, a particular LiFe battery I bought only a couple of weeks ago from UK is now showing as only in US west coast warehouse. I'm going to wait and see if things improve before ordering anything else. Normally, I do only use HK for items not easily obtainable from a single UK source, but now will probably need to shop around here and there.
  11. I have a "Towardpro" MG996R purchased from Hobbyking and it does have a ball bearing. It also has the solder joints for the motor wires and external lead reinforced by glue. Just goes to show there are variations on what is superficially the same thing.
  12. Yes, I think Mr Peacock swooped in with an auction sniper in the dying seconds, so my winning bid was relegated! I hope he can do something good with the kit, maybe re-publish the plan?
  13. I did test with a watt meter at the time and the result was "safe", though I can't remember the details now. The original motor and ESC remain intact after more than 2 years use. I set my timer to 8 minutes. When I changed to the Master 12x7, it needed less throttle than with the original prop for the same performance. The Master is a nicely made prop, with a very thin and accurately formed under-cambered section.
  14. The original prop on mine was too far out of balance to be much use, so I replaced it with a Master Airscrew Electric 12 x 7. This has been fine for the past couple of years or so. Edited By Jonathan Whitelegg on 11/05/2016 23:51:17
  15. There's a new report in the Daily Wail now saying a near miss at 12,500ft after take off from LHR. How on earth does any readily available "drone" reach 12,500ft???? Supposedly "Seconds from Disaster", if you can suspend your disbelief!
  16. Thanks for the info Chris. An interesting appearance achieved very simply. Probably a bit lighter weight than the old KK flying scale jobs. Are you going to put it in the air, or just admire it?
  17. That looks nice. How did you get that slightly mottled finish? It makes for an attractive "antique" appearance.
  18. Hi Peter, that Luciole looks very interesting and a suitable home for a spare engine of mine. Can you please provide me with a plan too? I would appreciate a PM with the details.
