  1. Further to my last and as it was too windy to fly today, I had a look through my archives and found the following piece of history about cab 131:- Lt. Cdr. Bob McCulloch RN. Commanding Officer 899 Squadron. January 1967 wrote:- In retrospect one amusing event occurred at RAF Gan. Whilst using Gan as the diversion one of the Vixens had to divert to the airfield. The pilot F/O Lewis RAF (another development at that time) on finding that one of his wheel brakes unserviceable, and remembering his airfield briefing, asked for the "barrier" to be raised. On being told that this had been done he landed but could see no barrier, there followed a series of "where is it", "its up" etc before the aircraft gently rolled into the sea at the end of the runway. The irate Wing Commander Flying was more than a little taken aback to find two RAF officers climbing out of the Vixen and an irate John Lewis asking where hell was the barrier; the RAF "barrier" was in fact an arrestor wire! So much for interservice co-operation, the RAF later changed the name to hook wire. # I was one of the lads on the flight deck looking down; please note that the crew were RAF on exchange Shep

  4. Nice photos and I see that they have one of my squadron aircraft, 131, which I worked on fifty years ago on the Eagle Shep
  5. Posted by Dai Fledermaus on 28/04/2016 17:00:56: Although it's not sold as a garden sprayer I imagine this timber sprayer from Aldi would do the job LINK I use one of those for timber and weed control, does both well.
  6. In the MIxes tab at the bottom you'll see options for delay and up/down Double click on the switch you're using. Or if you're doing it on the Tx go to MIXER then hold down Ent on the u/c switch for edit options. Edited By Eagle 899 on 27/04/2016 12:30:20 Edited By Eagle 899 on 27/04/2016 12:35:28
  7. 2.0.17....................RTFM mea culpa. All good now, thanks Andy
  8. I upgraded my T+ to 2.1.8 today. The telemetry is different (thanks Andy48), but other than that it was simple enough, except the voltage sound reporting. The Sensor and T+ both read 4.10v for the lowest cell, but the voice warning reports 4.6 volts! Any pointers please people? Shep
  9. And Dave Morgan from ELO is a commercial pilot and flying instructor.
  10. Posted by Andy48 on 11/04/2016 17:27:07: Posted by Bob Cotsford on 11/04/2016 17:02:43: Andy, which version are you running? I've just looked in 2.0.19 and I can't see a 'set failsafe' special function. This is in 2.1.7 Sooner or later you will need to upgrade to this, as 2.0 is no longer being updated. However, you need to be aware it does affect any telemetry setup you have, and you will need to re-programme that. Edited By Andy48 on 11/04/2016 17:28:38 Andy, I too need to upgrade to 2.1.7 Is it solely the telemetry part that needs re-programming? Shep Edited By Eagle 899 on 12/04/2016 18:18:15
  11. Up and running, a 47 Amp 12v power supply for £14.95 delivered free, excellent Shep
  12. Thanks John and Matty, I'll get the soldering iron warmed up Shep
  13. Posted by Geoff Sleath on 10/03/2016 16:08:06: This is the type of power supply you need. They're quite cheap, or were when I bought mine, but are capable of supplying several chargers form the 12volt 47 amp output. They need a few links to be made but it's all laid out by PDR who knows what he's talking about. Geoff My Proliant server PSU arrived this morning but Geoff's Link above has ceased working! Anyone got details of the pins to short please? Shep Edited By Eagle 899 on 19/03/2016 13:14:20
  14. Posted by Fredrum on 18/03/2016 11:03:10: Incidentally, I find shrink film quite expensive. In keeping with the ‘fast & cheap’ ethos of this build, any advice on alternative coverings would be most welcome. Try HK film, it's very good and cheap
  15. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 18/03/2016 12:00:25: Looks like it's updating to v5, that shows how often I run it And it will upgrade to 5.5 too................all for free
  16. Posted by Jim Mchugh on 18/03/2016 12:19:49: Shep, Do you find that the field flies OK...? We did do some beta testing on Wednesday night... I just did some circuits with a Fun Cub and it was fine Jim. PS Reminded me of when I used to fly bungee launched gliders there back in the early eighties
  17. Bob, In Phoenix 5.5 the extracted site is place in: C:\Program Files (x86)\PhoenixRC\resources\environments    Then it will be in the Flying site list in the prog. Shep Edited By Eagle 899 on 18/03/2016 11:46:55
  18. Downloaded and installed....................Nice one Shep
  19. Posted by Dave Bran on 11/03/2016 14:47:05: I am running two pc's side by side, one on 7, the other on 10. While 10 seems quite OK, there is absolutely nothing emerged so far as to why I should be at all keen to allow the 7 to 10 "upgrade" to take place. So was I, I let my laptop upgrade from 8.1 to 10 a few months ago and it's been fine. My desktop upgraded from 7 to 10, without my intentional input, two days ago. It's also fine and faster than it was. Time will tell; I have a few weeks to decide in or out! I've already decided on the other in or out Shep
  20. Thanks Andy; I'm not ready for the men in white coats yet then I must admit I just deleted the regular blue upgrade notes that kept popping up on my screen as I got fed up reading them. Definitely an upgrade as I was on Windows 7 until last night. W10 does appear faster though. Shep Edited By Eagle 899 on 10/03/2016 16:54:25
  21. Last night I went to check my email etc., and my Desktop PC was in the middle of a Windows 10 installation. I was sure I hadn't instigated it and I watched as it slowly completed the upgrade. The PC is running fine with W10, so far, but I'm still bemused as to how it happened. This morning a friend of mine phoned me in a panic as his laptop was doing the same! So it wasn't me then, I thought. Anyone else had this happen or am I losing the plot Shep
  22. Posted by Brian Spearing on 09/02/2016 21:55:26: Reversed ailerons can affect full-size too. That's what killed Roy Chadwick, designer of the Lancaster. I wonder how many similar accidents have happened. Also happened on a Hawk at Valley a few years ago after maintenance.
  23. 1340 Rhyl Squadron; Great times gliding at Sealand, Chippies at Shawbury. Intended to join RAF but then decided on the Fleet Air Arm! We had several flat tops in those days
