I used to have a model shop only 12 miles away, as Robert says _ when that is no longer the case you miss it big time. I now do a 100 mile round trip to a model shop every now and again and thoroughly enjoy the experience. And yes, it always involves a fair chunk of money. For the odds and ends, I support a select bunch of shops that I find provide excellent service. So in reality supporting several shops across the sector, but I do enjoy my occasional pilgrimage for face to face advice and buying the big stuff.

The weight of that Screwfix one suggests its not the same as others which are heavier. More cast iron = less vibration. Hi, I agree weight is an issue, lighter can mean less stable and more noise, I have an old Shapersaw which is very very loud, partly as it relies on oscillation / vibration to function. But it is very handy to lift on and off the workbench. So what I think I want is quieter, better cutting depth, ( the Shapersaw is painfully slow when even thin ply is involved). I guess it's all down to a balance of compromises as I read above that I really would benefit from having both, but just don't have the space or the budget. So thanks for all the input it has focussed my mind on what is key for me.

Hi Dave Good call - the SD 1600 looks interesting and relatively light which is a factor as I will have to move off and on the bench due to space issues.

Hi Thanks guys, all very helpful points - I think the scroll saw is going to be the choice for me. I had a quick look at the Clarke ones in Machine Mart, any one use one of these? Thanks again

Hi I've seen various posts on band saws and scroll saws but if you can only have one, limited space or budget, which should you go for ? Welcome your thoughts, btw sorry if already covered.

Hi A new R2006GS for the Moronic I'm about to start!
-
Good point Chris I am making a come back so newish in some ways - have gone for a Max Power Riot and a Wot 4 Foam E both with 2 rate set ups and half way through building a 4 ch Super 60. None flown yet - waiting for a mentor as I haven' t flown for 20 years. Strange market to come back to, kits seem to have disappeared to a large extent, so much ARTF & RTF. around. Gone for a 2.4 T8J but my original 35meg stuff is serviced and ready and will be in use on future models as I have 2 35 meg Tx's and 3 Rx. S P.S. Not many fly my mode (Mode 1) so it is a slow come back. Looking forward to getting airborne again.

Hi, A Hi-Boy followed by a Super 60. Radio was Digifleet 6 channel with a shared OS 35FP Learnt a lot quicker on the S60 including inverted circuit. Oh but you had to start high up! S

Hi Sounds like I need to check with FUTABA, your edit has removed the answer but what you said makes some sense. These hi-tec tx's are great but sometimes sound too clever. Hey ho! S PS An old timer coming back to the hobby!

Thanks guys Helpful as always!

Hi Looking for help folks! Are these 2 interchangeable? I've got a T8J and just bought a R3008SB Think I've got it wrong? Thanks for help and guidance
-
Hi Depends on whether you want to do some balsa bashing, over the winter, the Super 60 and similar will be a rewarding build
-
Thanks both - useful feedback and points to watch for. The Modtech one was a wood fuss with foam coaming so not the same, not sure about the Aviomodelli. If I get one I' m planning on using an OS 61 RF so lots of power. I look forward to any other feedback. Models like this are a big commitment in time and money so keen to learn.
-
Hi Has anyone built one of these? I had a Modtech version many years ago and was wondering how this kit will be.
-
Absolutely appalling!

Hi Great looking Lanc & and Ionos. Keen to hear what you think of them, what sort of postage do you pay for these? They came from the Far East don't they? -
Hi Just browsing and found this thread. Does anyone know where you can get a plan for one of these? I had the smaller PFM model in the 80's and would be interested in building another.
-
Hi Martyn. Actually it's a DSM kit (from the 80's I guess) Had the larger one back then until someone switched on and "killed" it I was well happy with it up til then - it didn't survive the crash S
-
Hi Still working on my comeback but got the Joker 40 kit out of the loft yesterday to check it out ready for building! Looking forward to getting this in the air. S

Hi Can I check - can a buddy box arrangement work between transmitters of different makes?
-
Got mine today in WHS - looks like some very useful reminders and some very useful explanation on the electric motors in use today. (Need to learn more about batteries.) Good article on stripping down engines.

Ever wanted to get into or improve your aerobatics?

Hi Thanks for the feedback - interesting point on noise, I used to fly in the middle of a farm most of the time - but the OS 61RF breathing out through the tuned pipe seemed a lot quieter than my ST90 and Irvine 61 for example, does anyone have any idea how these stack up against new noise requirements. Thanks in advance -
Unbelievable!! Fantastic!!
