  1. Before I retired I used to sail the oceans of the world and my wife sent me RCM&E to whatever port was convenient. I have read RCM&E in the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean in fact all over the globe. It's what kept me sane!! Spinmaster.
  2. I have a question regarding balancing spinners. How do you do it?  I have a SLEC prop balancer and I can balance a backplate but not the spinner as a whole unit.  Recently I replaced a Multiplex foam spinner on my Mentor with a plastic variety ( the type with a couple of crosshead screws ) and during ground testing approaching full revs there was a horrible noise, the whole plane vibrated so much that the canopy hatch flew off. I shut down immediately, removed the spinner and tried again. Without the spinner there was no vibration. I've now refitted the foam spinner, not that it's necessary, but the model looks better with a spinner. So how do I balance the plastic one??  Bill
  3. Why is it that  for IC motors lubrication is so important yet for electric motors of similar power it doesn't seem to be an issue. Some el. motor manufacturers state that the motor bearings should be given a drop of oil occaisionally. Others don't mention lubrication. If the bearings are sealed then what's the point of oiling them ??
  4. Myron,   Perhaps we're getting a bit off the thread with 2.4G conversions. You mentioned old fashioned, well I think fashion has a lot to do with folks rushing to 2.4G. If your happy with your 35 meg gear and the right things happen when you waggle the sticks then stick with it. I remember somebody saying the same about 27 megs. Don't worry about the trees. The experts don't think it's a problem.
  5. Thanks for your input guys. I'm not saying that using 2.4 G near trees is a problem. Hopefully it isn't. I'm just trying to find out if there have been other instances and getting feedback. So far I am still using 35 megs and I'll probably have to wait until Santa brings 2.4 gHz unless I can sell my Astro Hog, but that's another story.
  6. I have read somewhere in the Forum about loss of control using 2.4 gHz and flying near trees was mentioned. Also I have witnessed, at the local club site, two crashes on the same day whilst flying near trees. The pilots reported loss of control and both were using 2.4 gHz.  This started me thinking --  I have many years of experience using marine radars and the S-band radar works at a frequency of 3 gHz. Vegetation and in particular wet vegetation reflects radar energy. Could it be possible that trees in full leaf and especially when wet will reflect and scatter transmissions on 2.4 gHz ?  If this is the case could such scattering of the signal be sufficient to cause weakening of the received signal and subsequent loss of control ?         Perhaps someone with technical knowledge will be able to judge if 2.4 gHz signals from our TXs are capable of bouncing around like radar energy. It will also be interesting to hear from anyone who has experienced glitches or loss of control using 2.4 gHz when flying near trees and whether the trees were in leaf and/or were wet.Having said all that, I attended the Weston Park show in June on the Saturday and I saw only one crash near the trees and that appeared to be the dreaded depth perception issue, not loss of radio signal.
  7. A Camel for Christmas!  I'll get the hump if I don't win this.
  8. I would like to win this motor/esc combo. Would it have enough watts for an ele****c Uno Wot?
  9. So far I have never built or flown a warbird so now's my chance!
  10. I like the look of this one and I'm feeling lucky!
  11. I'll have a try just in case we ever get some thermalling weather.
  12. Not really my kind of ship but I have a .61 two stroke lying idle so I'll have a go.
  13. It would probably make a nice glider tug. I would like to try.
  14. Excellent! The more competition between suppliers, the better for the consumer as long as quality is not compromised. As for the competition to win a power package, I hope I'm in with a chance. Good luck to you all.
  15. 1. Hawker Hurricane 2. Dehaviland Chipmunk 3. Miles Messenger ( can be electric or i.c.)
  16. Recently bought a Twister Sky Lift and on first try it would only go astern even with full forward trim. Looking at the swashplates they were all out of kilter with the trims at neutral. Don't see how it could've been  "flight tested" more than half a second.  This required adjustment of the linkages which means removal of the body. I was scratching my head at first over removal of the front legs until I realized that they just pull off. The low battery warning light needs to be removed and of course the two horizontal securing rods.  After adjustment I can just get it to hover with full forward stick so more adjustment is needed. Also the average house room is not big enough for practice. I will have to wait for a flat calm day outside. That could be a long wait!
  17. Just the model for teaching my grandchildren about flying - after I have thoroughly tested it myself of course!
  18. I was considering buying a Galahad kit from Ben Buckle as a suitable platform for my OS30 four stroke but, having just read the negative comments about B.B. kits, I am totally put off.  Another lost customer.
