Best glue for magnets in foam .
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Hints and Tips
Not sure which foam it is but it's a Sonic Model classic wing . Looks secure for a bit then falls out just when you don't want it . -
As the title suggests what is best for gluing small magnets into foam . I've roughed up the magnet and the hole they go into and tried in no particular order epoxy , hot glue and cyano all eventually come out . Anyone got a tip to make em stay put ? Clear thin tape maybe - whose got a killer tip .

Messerschmitt ME109 (Cambrian Funfighter)
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Peter Garsden's topic in PSS Build Blogs
Andy I've got one of those to build in my loft workshop , what motor/esc/prop did you go with if you don't mind me asking? Did it fly well enough as a trainer I.e. docile enough for beginners ? -
Great build , never get tired of peoples different ways of achieving flight with these kits . Everything from a glider to a biplane version somewhere even one with an EDF drive. Keep up the good work . Just a small point I wonder what the ratio of children to modellers of a certain age is buying these from Lidl.

I'm with Ron there not just Frsky either if in doubt build a new model memory because sometimes you just can't find the cause but don't clone it or you may just have the fault back .

Hi, Are all or most of the X Sensor suite homebrew modules compatible with the Access receivers ? I ask because my X series X8R/X6R are getting a little battered and bruised over various models and need replacing. I know that there is no 3 pin smart port plug but you use the provided 6/8 pin plug instead . Anyone used them and what receivers , I don't usually use more than 6 channels and occasionally a stabilised one .

Radiomaster TX16S touchscreen
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Other Radio Brands
I'll have a look later , never actually looked what's in the TX SDcard slot. Worked fine otherwise with the exception of a charger problem sometimes , seems to depend on what USB charger used ( Lion battery ) . -
Anyone familiar with this transmitter experienced the touchscreen stopping working after an hour or 2 ? I've checked it's not switched off in the menu etc , turning on/off makes no difference . The fix temporarily is re install the latest Edge TX version and it comes back until the next time . Anyone any ideas ?

X sensor and Neo 6M GPS on Frsky X series.
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Gadgets and Electronics
Hi , maybe posting to myself here but got to the bottom of the problem above . Dug about in loft and found my old hard drive and copied off the Open X Sensor saved files that worked before ( 3 years ago give or take ) and ran them in Arduino IDE and what do you know they worked straight away without any hardware changes . If I try with the latest download I just cannot get it to recognise the GPS module but does work with BMP280 pressure sensor . Computers and software are instruments of the devil despite paying my salary for the past 30 years . -
Hi , In the past I have made some arduino Nano based GPS modules using Neo 6M boards and they have worked well . I tried to make a new one and am not having much success , I have selected GPS INSTALLED selected correct pin for output (4 or 2) to my Frsky smartport X receivers and connected up GPS RX via 10k to pin Arduino D6 and GPS TX to Arduino RX . This is how I wired them previously and they worked fine but now I don't get the X RX to see the telemetry even when the GPS light is flashing every second meaning it's seeing satellites . So I modded the config again and added a vario BMP280 removed GPS and lo that works and gives vario and height so the software is working and I'm programming it correctly . Did the same with current and voltage and they came up OK in telemetry but not GPS - anyone any ideas what I might be missing ? I tried an older version with oxs configurator but got exactly the same result , appreciate the NEO 6M is old hat as is the Nano but I've got loads of them in my spares and they work ( normally ) .

Little tip when checking range , the transmitter is approximately 10db down on power (10%) for the test . As the human body is mainly water ( or beer ) the attenuation is anything from another 10db plus so shield the receiver with your body and if its OK then it will work way beyond your ability to see the model on full power .
-
Glad this thread came up , I took an AR8010T out of a model a year ago took off the satellite receiver for another model and put it in my receiver box . Took it out without sat rx and thought it had died and nearly threw it away - that was a close !
-
I have bought some of the above rx and generally they are excellent and reasonably priced at £26 or so . Work really well and easy to setup once you get the hang of them . A couple of caveats though , if you buy one with a current sensor it will measure current but on a Spectrum "flight battery mAh" telemtry widget it will not register as its not compatible. This is confirmed by the chap on Ebay who kindly contacted Lemon for me after I'd pulled my hair out for 2 days trying to get it to count mAh used . Second caveat if buy them with just the voltage probe ( works fine ) they are not calibrated for the current probe so if you add a current probe later it needs calibration which is in the very fine documentation available for Lemon and isn't difficult. No connection with Lemon or any resellers just passing on my findings .

Lemon 7 ch stabilised receiver current sensor
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Other Radio Brands
Leccyflyer yes it's that simple to monitor pack voltage the ground is through the receiver itself , just the one wire . -
You may have seen my posts about not reading current on the above receivers now resolved has brought me to another little problem . I measure current on the Lemons with XT60 sensor and it reads perfectly in telemetry but if I look at flight pack mAh it does not display anything doesn't go up from 0 mAh . Substituting another TX is the same current read but no flight pack mAh used so out with Radiomaster TX16S and it reads current and if you make a calculated widget it shows how much current used as it should . On the Spectrum you can't change anything parameter wise but isn't it strange it's measuring current but not the accumulated current ? Anyone any ideas why because if it reads current and it measures time that's all it needs surely .

Lemon 7 ch stabilised receiver current sensor
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Other Radio Brands
Fairly easy to do Frank if you have the later Textgen ones , voltage needed 8.4 volts so fully charged lipo and a load of 4 amps for the current . If you want a quick and dirty test a 55 watt 12 volt headlamp bulb draws about 4.5 amps . I being a bit of perfectionist set mine spot on but used esc/motor/battery/wattmeter and a servo tester with the current sensor in line and started it until I read 4 amps then calibrated the Lemon which was on a separate battery but I had 5 receivers to do . You can do the same by pushing the buttons on the Lemon if Textgen isn't available but looks a little fiddly for sausage fingers me ! Couple of things if you have a well equipped man cave , use a bench power supply to do the 8.4 volts so its exact. For the current sensor I found some high power resistors to get 3 ohms and varied the volts on bench power supply to get exactly 4.0 amps draw for calibration . Sorry I've being doing this sort of thing all my working life so hard to stop I retirement 🤪 -
Lemon 7 ch stabilised receiver current sensor
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in Other Radio Brands
Ok sorted now . I despite never having been in the calibration screens had to calibrate each one separately for current and voltage . I would have thought out the box they would have worked on or about the ball park but not showing anything . I can understand the one where I factory reset it but the others , no idea . Thanks anyone for thinking about it . -

Lemon 7 ch stabilised receiver current sensor
Brian Dorricott 1 posted a topic in Other Radio Brands
Let me start by saying I have nothing but praise for these receivers , great features and rock solid stabilisation regardless of setup , manual or textgen and who in the Spectrum world can complain at the price . Yes there's a " but " coming with the above regarding the current sense telemetry . I have only 3 working receivers that measure current and about 7 that don't, before anyone suggests it I've swopped working XT60 connectors around and factory reset all the suspect ones and even used a different transmitter ( NX10,DX6G2 and TX16S ) all to no avail . Still resolutely refuses to show any current draw at all right up to a measured 30 amps on the ammeter . Everything else on the suspect ones looks good vario, altitude etc it evens finds current when I delete all telemetry and rediscover but stays on 0 amps on all 7 receivers . The 3 good ones will display from a few mAh to 10s of amps reasonably accurately and I know you can calibrate them but you have to have a display first ! It's not going to stop me using them because the basic functionality is fine and I only want to know what current I've used on my EDFs which eat batteries otherwise its not really necessary. Anyone used these a lot and knows of any foibles quirks etc that may help. Just as an aside they are all later models with textgen and some were bought with the XT60 current sense together ??? Wonder if there are different software versions must check the software versions when I've an hour to spare. -
Hi Built this years ago and got it out to fly but can't find the plan or name and need to know the CG . Anyone know off the top of their heads ? Cheers in advance .

Due to a little matter of the battery falling out and our existing Apprentice ending nearly 40 metres up a tree we ( Sale MFC) need a new trainer . It can be a bit tatty and doesn't have to have the AS3X receiver I as long as it's complete otherwise and flyable . Riots and others are OK but the Apprentice is a very forgiving old bird for training . So anyone got one they have grown out of sitting in the hanger gathering dusk ?

FMS Reflex V2 downloads ???
Brian Dorricott 1 replied to flying daddy's topic in All Things Model Flying
The program above is fine when it's a known FMS model but can you fine tune it all ? For instance reverse the location or turn gains up/down etc . Just interested if possible as a few of them have made it into my junk box ( Pitts and I think a Ranger ? ) . -
Got to the bottom of above problem . Ethos Suite installed version V3.0.2 and you access the setting up a different way not through the LUA script .

Hi all, I've a little problem with one of the TD SR6 stabilised receivers, I set it up , calibrate it but cannot get it go into self test as several YouTube videos show . TX is X18s with latest software 1.6.1 Eu/LBT internal RF module 3.0.1 The receiver a TD SR6 latest firmware 3.0.1 Latest LUA Scripts V3.0.1 It calibrates reverses directions switches in and out stabilisation but will not do anything when I select the self test , I'm expecting something flashing then I would move all the surfaces and job should be good . It actually works in stabilisation mode as it should using a pot to control gain and in levelling mode. I've tried various forums but can't find anyone with the same problem despite watching Mr D on YouTube and others who show it doing as it should . Has anyone seen this problem or is there a little step I'm missing ? As usual any pointers welcomed because I don't want to commit aviation without it doing a self test first .
