  1. Need to justify the cost of a 3D printer - what tosh, as Bob says above since when do we do that for a hobby. If I did that then most, if not all of my camera gear would not have been bought, likewise most of my machining equipment! Need to justify the setup time, what setup time, unless of course you mean the design time? I’m not CAD / 3D print expert but even I was able to produce a pretty good (if I say so myself) gun sight for my LA-7 in about an hour and the best bit was that the first one was slightly too big, 10 secs later it was rescaled and sent off to the printer. Oh yes, I also printed the dash, design time 30 mins!
  2. I did think it was a competitive price from Chris, maybe he took sympathy with a lockdown build project!
  3. Whilst I am a total Laser fan and love all things IC I believe that it should be designed around leccy but wouldn't be beyond the skills of us mere mortals to re-jig for IC. At least with leccy you can move the great lump of batteries around to get the C o G.
  4. That's the great thing about 3D printing, it does it whilst you get on with other things and in a lot of cases no need to design stuff as it's freely available.
  5. I paid £270 with postage and the larger canopy.
  6. The box of bits, excellent quality of balsa and ply, good CNC cutting and pretty good destructions too. Edited By Ron Gray on 19/06/2020 10:55:46

  8. Oh Richard, I think you may have started something (again).
  9. I first saw one, in the flesh, a couple of years ago and it was powered by a Laser. It flew really well and I was impressed although, at the time, didn’t like the tail skid in place of a wheel mainly because it made such a noise on our tarmac! So when lockdown arrived I decided to go ahead and get one and I even have plans for that tailskid.
  10. Top man, well done! I'm still beating myself up over the angle of the U/C, want them angled further forwards but then they won't retract without the legs being raised. @ Tim - hope you're watching, what are yours like and how its ground handling? 11. It is the kit version, not the Ripmax Acro Wot XL and it will be leccy powered! (shock, horror, not a Laser 155). I was going to go down the Laser route but I was 'challenged' by a colleague to 'lectrify it so it will be 10s. For the colour scheme I want to mimic the Hamilton orange and black so already have HK and Solarfilm covering film in stock for that. I also ordered it with the longer can of peas. 12. Having just finished the Lavochkin LA-7 my next project is the CF Xtra Wot so is anyone interested in seeing the build progress? I’m happy to record the progress with photos and videos but equally no problem if Forumulites think it is a bit of a boring subject!
  13. Robert, as a matter of interest, have you got a photo of the engine’s installation?
  14. Too true, Hurricanes gathering dust somewhere????
  15. The acrylics I used were resin based rather than water based although they do both. Had to use cellulose thinners to clean things up in! I've used car acrylic paints from Halfords in etc past but rate these ones better in terms of coverage.
  16. The paints I used fo topcoat were from Cass Art and at £4.95 per 400ml rattle can represents excellent value for money. I will certainly use them again and they have a good range of colours, not warbirds colours but enough to get a pretty good match. I experimented using them on some foam then, once dry, bent the foam to see if the paint flaked off and it didn't so I will be using some of their fluorescent colours on one or two of my foamy wings / deltas so that i can see the little devils when they're zipping by at about 130 mph!
  17. That is shaping up quite nicely Bob, keep at it, finishing line nearly in sight! I tried a new paint (to me) for this build and was surprised how much it covered up in just 1 coat, I certainly lost some of the details which I didn't expect to happen so yours could go that way too.
  18. Isn't it strange how things change. I got back into model aircraft a few years ago having been away for about 30 years. Back then I enjoyed building more than flying but when I 'came back' all I wanted to do was fly but gradually over the last couple of years I've got more into the building side again and one of the things I love doing is painting, either spray or brush or rattle can. I know that both you and Tim don't like that part of the build but I see it as an opportunity to add some character to a scale 'plane, a bit like painting a pilot figure adds character to it. Hey ho, each to his own.
  19. Hi Bob, 4" spinner. I was put off the grey / mono colour schemes because of a possible visibility issue, if it wasn't for that I would have gone with the green 14 scheme. My finished AUW including everything is 3.5 Kg which I am pleased with and the CoG is spot on with no additional ballast. Can't wait to fly it but I have to Post up pics of yours Bob.
  20. Whilst I fly both leccy and IC you just cannot beat the sound of IC in a warbird but it has to be a 4 stroke or radial engine. Yes, I know you can get sound systems and when I get the P51s from Richard they will be leccy powered and I will get a sound system for them but it will have to be a loud one! Unfortunately I won't be in a position to maiden it for a couple of weeks as I'm still in isolation mode! And then when I'm good to go I will be spoilt for choice for which one to fly! But a nice problem. Edited By Ron Gray on 17/06/2020 17:01:20
  21. Well it is finished and today saw the engine started for the first time! Next up maiden. Just looking at the vid, the U/C legs are not angled that much forward so I will have to watch the roll out and keep some up elevator applied until up to speed. Edited By Ron Gray on 17/06/2020 14:54:57
  22. I had the same problem with an NGH 38, lost 2 silencers which unscrewed themselves mid flight. 'orrible engine noisy and messy (others will disagree). Swapped it out for a Laser, problem (s) went away! Not a very helpful answer I know, but it worked for me Edited By Ron Gray on 16/06/2020 14:47:53
