  1. My First Radio was ECC Telecommander. Two 45 Volt hearing aid batteries, 1 1.5 volt grid bias battery and four pen-cells for the escapement. Tune the sensitivity with the Milliameter then tune the the voltage drop with the milliameter. Then start the engine. The relay chattered and all the turns came off the the escapement rubber band. Start from square one. Never did get a flight out of that. Oh yes, the radio set cost £10 in 1954,a weeks pay for a skilled man. I had an inheritance from a grandfather!!! My first Successful radio was RCS Guidance System.. One switch and one button. Press once for right, press twice for left. You don't know that you have lived!!!!
  2. NOTE!!! I said "What is essential on a transmitter" They might like all the whistles and bells but we lived without them for years and learned to find our way round any problems.
  3. That looks realy interesting. I am using that switch for Rudder high/low rates but I can live without that.
  4. I hate doing spats. Or at least the fixings.
  5. I am still using one of the very early Spektrum DX7s from about 12 plus years ago. I even bought a second hand spare but have never needed it. The only thing that it doesn't have that I would like is a kill switch for safety. I am often reminded of what it was that either Wolfgang Matt or Hanno Prettner said when asked "What do you think is essential on a transmitter?" His reply was "Two sticks!" I do also use a Hitec Aurora 9 which is nice bit I only use one or two of the features and I hate touch screens but then I started with a Macgregor 4 channel set. Two Sticks, four trim levers and an on-off switch. Before that it was a handle with two lines.
  6. If anyone is interested I designed and built a Correx high wing aerobatic model a very long time ago. It w as called Blue Movie and was published by Radio Controlled Model World. It was still flying in other peoples hand years later and there is one in Canada that could still be flying. Sarik still list the plan. A little story goes with it. The auditors were in the offices and the summoned the editor of the day to their office and demanded to know why he had bought a blue movie. They didn't believe him until he brought them a copy of the magazine!! The name? Well it was very crude and very ugly but the performance was incredible
  7. Hey! That looks great. I too will look forward to hearing how you like her.
  8. GReat! Glad we could sort that one out
  9. There is no such thing as a stupid question..... But there can be stupid answers.
  10. Going back many, many years to covering sheet with tissue. I used to dope the sheet balsa then wet the tissue lay it over over newspaper to get rid of excess water then lay it down on the sheet and apply thinners. This allowed the tissue to be laid down and stay in place then the thinners would suck the dope through the tissue. After that you just wait for it to dry and applied more coats of dope. That was the technique a long time ago before heat shrink film and it works. I should mention that this was Modelspan wet strength tissue but it should still work with care on modern tissues
  11. Now that is really pretty. I note the skis too. Another that I can recommend is "The OHmen" a little small but that could be enlarged to the same size.
  12. No comparison!! Rans Chaos is bigger in general, considerably more drag and bulk and complication. Ballerina is a dream to fly, take off and land and very, very aerobatic. I passed her on to a club mate and he loved her too. You may remember that she was chosen as a mass build a few years ago and I had NO complaints. You will love her. I converted her to electric power and she was just as good with the 3541 1070 motor.
  13. I found a still from the video or a photo from that event. I suspect the latter as it was a bigger high quality image but the same aircraft. I see that he did a lomcevac in his sequence. Just in passing, I lived in the Argentine as a child for 7years. The commentary brought back happy memories. That was where I started modelling.
  14. Hi Lucas I only fly off grass,as for flying off ice🥴 Ballerina was something else. I thinl that the sale U/C location on Chaos is a bit farbak. A club member who built one a little larger always has the model tip on its nose. I didn't know that it had flaps. Interesting. They might help and luckily we can do that electronically. Do know that they had one of those emergency paarachutes. There is a great picture of one coming down with one wing folded up and the parachute deployed on Goog pictures.
  15. I considered extending the sides but with the precut kit that would have been a pain needed extra doublers and modified formers etc. This kept things as simple s possible...I like "simple" I am a great believer in the "Kiss principle" !
  16. OK,here as promised. F-1 is as per plan but with the bottom hole added. Also the holes for the thread rod stand offs. Drill these to match the motor mount. NOTE if usingthe Sarik pre cut kit fit one lamination back to back and cut the 14 circular bits that used to be the clearance fr the silencer and glue them to the former. I cut mine from 1/4" ply. The 1/16th ply rear former for the cowl as shown. IT is marked to the full size of the front face of the fuselage. Note Screw heads in former and keyhole slots in cowl backplate Motor is mounted on 4mm threaded rod from 4Max. The rear is 47 mm from F-1 but that can be adjusted. Not rear former for cowl in position. Fit an 1/8th ply battery platform with Velcro added. Support this at F-1 with a strip of hardwood under the platform. ALSO add scrap balsa to the back of F-1 to prevent the battery being damaged by the ends of the threaded rods. I have not done this yet. The cowl is built as per the original plan but on the rear cowl former. Battery hatch has dowel at the rear and latch at the front. It is a bit of a pain drilling the holes buy I have a Dremel right angle drive which makes like very easy. As you can see conversion is very simple. Motor is my standard 4-Max 3541 1070. Battery will be either a 2200 or 3000 Mah unit. That is as far as I have gone so far but it covers all the modifications needed
  17. No, there is very little change. I do have a new plan in mind when it is finished. Another rehash and enlargement of an old design but one of my favourite subjects.
  18. Conversion nearly complete. It is very easy and I will post some pictures and details later today.
  19. Possibly slight toe in might help. A friend who built one finds that it wants to tip on its nose at the end of the landing run. Mine seems alright although it is some time since I flew mine. Sorry that I can't be more helpful.
  20. Didier Thanks.I would love to see it. Mine is getting rather "war weary" but still keeps flying. If it stopped I would have to build a new one at once.
  21. Thank you Didier. I am so glad that you are so happy with here She is one of the best models that I have flown for fun aerobatics and is my favourite but you have taken far further than I have ever done. I must say that I have never managed rolling circles or rolling loops and you certainly have taken her far beyond anything that I have done but I have done lomcevacs with mine.
